Outdoor photographer Tal Roberts captured freestyle skier Karl Fostvedt at dusk using strobes to highlight and shape the dimensions of the jump.
When a colossal swell hits Maui, big wave surfers heed the call.
Last week’s adventures, as told by Mike Rogge.
With more than 4,000 photos submitted to the first-ever FREESKIER Photo Shootout—from 1,126 photographers—it's safe to say the contest was a smashing succe
"Karl Fostvedt made a trip home to Sun Valley, Idaho with as much motivation to build unique features as I've ever seen," says photographer Tal Roberts. "This redirect type feature is one of a handful of creative setups he put together and is the result of four days of building. Karl is taking off from the inside of the quarterpipe on the right which went a little past vert, doing a 540 blunt and landing on the inside of the quarterpipe on the left. The sketchiest part of the whole thing was driving up and down the skinny, icy road with no guardrail."

We were lucky enough to get Tal Roberts to come along on our lastest team shoot. The amount of shots he captured in the short amount of time is beyond us.
"The taildrop at Burnside is not a make," photographer Tal Roberts says. "It's far from it, but there is something to be said for looking at things differently and trying something at a place where so much has been done. JoJo Ducros had taken a two-year sabbatical from his job as a postman in France and was spending it traveling the world and skateboarding. He said he wanted to try something new at Burnside before he left town. We got a ladder, climbed up and scoped it out, and he was down to give it a try. He lost his board halfway into the bowl, and it looked really bad, but he hobbled out with just a badly bruised heel. He never stopped smiling."

If you looked at the video on Thrasher Magazine yesterday you might think Jojo Caralho was dead. JoJo is a super creative ripper from France who is traveling the world alone and making friends along the way through skateboarding. After shredding Portland spots all week, on his last day decided he wanted to try to tail drop off the bridge into the piss bowl. The video looks really bad but he hopped away with just a bad heel bruise and never stopped smiling and said "man, I'm so stoked I tried that". Best attitude ever! #Burnside
