Any advice for someone who wants to get into warhammer 40k?
Honestly I would strongly recommend against getting into the main tabletop right now, GW has gone back on all of their previous good boy actions and is going full merchant once again and it looks like it will only get worse from here on out.
If you want to get into the hobby, Kill Team and some of the other boxed games are still decent, and with Space Hulk coming up on its anniversary next year, it will most likely come back again and is still the best game they've ever made. There's plenty of ways to get into the tabletop activities without dropping $800 on models, especially when whole units are getting locked behind two army box sets now. As for breaking into the setting in general, I answered a similar question, in that you should look up the Eisenhorn trilogy of books, along with the first 3 books of the Horus Heresy books. Figure out what kinda things you like and look on from there.
remember the time in the Great Crusade when the SPace Wolves fought an AI?
I remember that one old Inferno where there was an AI left and it was rad as hell
NEW KROOT MODEL IN BLACKSTONE FORTRESS PLEASE BE A SIGN OF MORE KROOT TO COME
I'll still never understand why they're not their own army when everyone gets their own codex now, even if it only contains two units and some transports.
I just got into painting minis and was wondering if you can spare some tips on drybrushing?
Make sure you're using an old brush or one you bought for drybrushing, cause it will ruin brushes
Use a flat edged brush for smaller areas because this will allow you more control over the placement of colour
Make absolutely sure you have removed 80% or more of the paint off the brush using a dry piece of paper towel or tissue, otherwise you can risk huge streaks from wet paint being left in brush recesses
Go light and build it up, as painting over drybrushing is very difficult as it can leave a mild texture
Depending on what you're drybrushing, consider glazing afterwards to blend the colours together. Works especially well on things like ork and tyranid skin when you want to do a ton of them fast.
There's probably some things in missing, but these are the biggest mistakes I learned starting out. Hope it's helpful.
Ok so I am getting back into the 40k's, and I met this dude that has an insane mix of Thousand Sons, Tzangors on disks, and I cannot recall all the stupid aura combinations he had, but it basically amounted to him having an impossible to charge crazy unit that essentially never misses it's ranged attacks and does stupid damage. And I play a mix melee/ranged Renegade Chaos build. I was absolutely destroyed, what the hell do I to counter this? Spam psykers for deny the witch rolls? Or go imperium?
The key is to not play with that person.
Like, actually. Powergamers will sap the will to play out of you regardless of what game you’re playing. Two powergamers can have fun together comparing lists but if you’re more concerned with making an army that is unique or your own, do that over making it “competition worthy”. Realistically speaking, chaos have been bad since 4e and will continue to be bad, so if you’re playing them, play them to be fun and cool. If someone wants to bring a minmaxed list that doesn’t follow forceorg, just don’t play them.
I got a good deal on 2 old Crisis suits and 2 of the old style broadsides. Jesus these old casts have the worst mouldlines ever, looks like the shit wasn't even lined up.. Also have no idea how to clean up metal parts lmao.
If you’re talking about the metal bits, the flash is usually a result of mould breakdown over time. It’s why plastics are the more sound option. You make one injection mould and it will last for decades of use with minor detail degredation, whereas casts used for metal and resin will break down much faster.
If you’ve got flash on metal parts, just remove it like you would on a normal miniature, by using the flat edge of your knife and dragging it along the edge. It’ll usually take longer, but as long as it’s minor flash it’s fine. If it’s that severe, consider getting some files from a hobby store, and at worst case some high grit sandpaper to clean up after.
Ok, so, since one guy asked about transformers, what do you know about the Gundam lines? Asking for a friend *cough*
Robot Damashii is the best line there ever was and will probably stay that way for the rest of time. MSIA was fun for its time but they're very dated nowadays, and the only real alternative is the Metal Build series which are way too pricey for almost anyone but hardcore collectors.
There's obviously gunpla but if you just want action figures, Damashiis are the only way to go.
So I just got into collecting transformers. Starting with the older stuff... masterpiece, g1, the usual ‘classics’. Any line you would recommend that you’ve been fond of?
Honestly Titans and CW were both really fun to find and collect the full combiners, but the upcoming Siege line looks great too. Honestly my favorites will always be the old Beast Wars lines which are cheap as hell online because geewunners hate them. Plenty of articulation, look rad as hell and especially Transmetals 2 had some wild ideas and designs. Modern stuff is a toss up between the tail end of Classics/UW and specifically the Thrilling 30 line which was all solid gold.
That being said if you’re looking to just find cool stuff, I’d reccomend watching Vangelus or old Thew, despite them both dropping off in recent years, especially content wise in the case of Thew, they reviewed alot of cool stuff that made me want to pick them up.
Wotafa as well on youtube is great for 3rd party TFs if you’re down to dip your toes into that.
So humble bundle is giving away free copies of Warhammer 40k: Space Marine on steam
Had it since at least 2011 and have over 200hrs in it on steam already👌Still real good, gonna try to force some of my friends to play some exterminatus with me as a result.
You see the hot garbage that is the Warhammer Fantasy RPG 4e book?
I unfortunately never got a chance to try WHFRP 2e and steered the fuck clear of 3e because of all the DLC but fucking WEW 4e is hilarious. One of the dudes in my 40k server was losing his shit about it for like two days.
LET ME TURN OF SUGGESTED POSTS I BEG YOU
Have you had the chance to play killteam yet? I'm wondering what your opinion is on it. I havent had the chance to play it yet cause procrastination is killing me on assembling my models. (im dreading magnetizing my crisis suits and stealth suits which is probably the cause of it) Also that new heavy bolter for sisters with the shells engraved with the soritas logo is fucking kino.
I haven’t the money for the box set or the time to get any games in at my FLGS, but next week I should have base coats done on my new Deathwatch team so I can give it a go. At the very least the rules look great, save for plasma being objectively the strongest goddamn thing in the game. I’m really looking forwards to trying out other teams too. Had a kill team of Ork ‘ardboyz I made back in late 5th to try out along with GSC too.
"extraneous detail and plates added to literally every single surface save the head" Pretty much every armour kit has that except the pre 6th edition MK VII kits though. There's not significantly more panel lining on them than any other type and there's certainly a lot less armour plating than MK II and MK III. Also Primaris armour is pretty much a straight rip off of Jes Goodwin's original design for MK VIII from 1990, down to the heel bubbles, ear outcrops and bulked up back pack vents.
If you’re talking about chapter specific kits maybe, but you’re actually a blind idiot if you think the Primaris armor is as simple as normal marines.
