people on twitter absolutely losing their minds about the mad king leaks meanwhile the only thing people are really concerned with is the fact it didn't validate their "and rhaegar was evil and actually the villain the whole time" delusional headcanons, as if it ever would. i am just so shocked to see people acting like a pillar of canon has been toppled but in reality they were just making that shit up to begin with. i don't know why "rhaegar is a loser!!" caught on and became such an emotional pillar for such a chunk of the fandom when there was no connection to the canon reality at all. rhaegar was tragic just like the rest of him but this idea he was an evil loser is something they made up in their heads and are now mad that their headcanons aren't canon

easy to forget but book jon snow is great actually. he gets so drunk he cries in his first chapter. he's 16 years old and laser focused on loan negotiation. he keeps getting promoted against his will. he's the chosen fantasy protagonist with the worst genre awareness ever. he implements pro immigration social reforms. he has a giant albino pet wolf. he cuts a guy's head off. he thinks he invented cunnilingus. he's been dead for 15 years.

im definitely tired of endless conversations about characterization/mischaracterization of aerion when it's clear enough everyone has staked there place and isn't moving from there, and also while people continue to be disingenuous about why they feel the way they do, but man sometimes i see something and it really hits me how different people's visions of aerion are from my own/the one that feels most obviously "textual" to me.....i suppose i've just been disconnected from fandom from a while/not in asoiaf for a while but the phenomenon of stripping down "evil" characters for the sake of woobification is so. fascinating i guess. and it seems fundamentally just connected to the guilt complex people have about liking these characters to begin with (all of the people on twitter obsessed with like, horror moving serial killers but who get really upset if you suggest that serial killer would engage in sexual violence type thing). but i just don't get it.

when the show first ended i saw some people from l*ustat and j*yvik fandoms talking about how they wanted to get into dnkarion but didn't want to have to learn the lore about the world and i just. can't stop thinking about that in this context.

I'm normal about most things in asoiaf, I can keep my dignity and raise my head high* but when it comes to the Great Bastards I lose all ability to keep my decorum and turn into a very sad unfortunate person. I really can't control it, my mind was made specifically for this scenario. I think about that one piece of art of Daemon/Baelor/Brynden/Maekar and start sobbing.
