They’re standing together at the end of the world. They have changed the world, changed the course of history together, and now all that remains is to fade away.

It starts to rain, and David’s blue eyes are a bottomless pit. David isn’t happy either, Farouk can see, and he wonders why. Wasn’t this all David’s idea? Didn’t Farouk do all of this for him?

Farouk shuts his eyes for a moment, behind his sunglasses. The rain is soaking his suit, and for once, he can’t bring himself to care. “David - ” he says, but there are no words, not in any of his languages, for what he wants to say, so he reaches out, and pulls David close, and kisses him, desperately. Just one last memory, he thinks. One last stolen moment in this dying timeline.
