REFLECTIVE STATEMENT
After the past few weeks, this course has pushed me to develop my design maturity and the way I interpret and approach things. I will not lie when I came into the first comm design studies class I was slightly confused about this Tumblr assignment (classic me) having not used tumblr before I was unsure what we were doing with it and my first goal in place was to figure out how to post and what to post about. Thankfully I figured out the whole Tumblr posting thing quickly with the help of a few classmates and my main objectives became more serious - wanting to make the most of every task given to me and to broaden my creative skills and knowledge. I definitely think I have achieved these goals with the weekly lectures, learning about modernism, post-modernism, bauhaus, controversial designs of the 90s (being the most interesting and moving for me because this forced people to acknowledge matters that were often avoided because of societal norms) etc. these lectures really broadened my knowledge about design history. The activities each week provided a new hurdle to overcome, especially with the typography related classes, but these tasks have allowed me to look, interpret and create letterforms in a new way!! The collage activity allowed me to push my comfort zone boundaries as we began to experiment with manual design and make marks that could not be undone with a ‘command Z’, which gave a nice freeform flow and made me realise that not everything needs to be completed on the computer. Now at the end of this subject, I feel that I have made the most of of each assignment, whilst enjoying the work along the way and picking up new skills and developing old ones such as group work, zine-making, type-making, collage, camera setups etc!!! Very grateful for the past few months and the new friendships along the way :)) Thanks heaps Andy and Karen for all your knowledge, help and wisdom !!!
