So APPARENTLY I cant get income assistance because Im in One Single Course I paid for Out of POCKET??? I need a machine strong enough to run my exam envigilation program so I can finish the course. How on EARTH DOES THIS MEAN I dont qualify. The food bank better not have an issue with me being a student technically?? I'm out of money til the 5th and im not sure I can make my food last til then. I actually do feel like the "unemployed friend on a Tuesday" meme actually helps de-stigmatize unemployment because it frequently affirms that when you don't have a job you're more likely to be getting up to some weird shit rather than just lazing around. But I also feel like the unemployed friend is frequently up to some random shit because there's a whole pile of miscellaneous life tasks that full-time employment keeps people from. The unemployed friend is helping their cousin move, or babysitting, or checking in with a neighbor with mobility issues. The unemployed friend is a walking thesis on the inflexibility of our current labor landscape and just how much work exists outside of work.

I found out this morning from another activist that there's a piece of legislation about to go before Congress in the U.S. that would basically allow the government to strip non-profits of 501(c)3 status if their missions disagree with the government's policy priorites. I know that sounds catastrophic, and it is but:

The government can grant 501(c)3 status. The government cannot tell you, me, or anyone where we can put our money.

ALSO! In some states, you don't need any sort of non-profit status to *accept* donations. You just can't solicit donations (i.e. you can't even mention that you can take money in writing anywhere).

So write down your favorite non-profits. Get the contact info for as many people within the non-profit that you can. And keep giving them money, 501(c)3 or not, preferably in cash.

Fuck all attempts at institutional control of people fighting for a better tomorrow.
