Part of Wind Creek Hospitality’s Southern Table Initiative strives to increase demand for Alabama produced food products by creating and expanding supply channels available to small farmers. In an effort to do this, Wind Creek Hospitality is offering a number of Alabama products in our restaurants and aboard our Mission in Motion, #GoodToGo.
One farm that Wind Creek Hospitality purchases a number of products from is Oakview Farms, a family owned and operated Gristmill and Working Farm in Elmore County, Alabama. Products our company purchases from the farm include: Bibb Lettuce, Fresno Peppers, Grits, Honey, Strawberries, Molasses, Corn Meal, Corn Flour and Seasonal Herbs. These products are being utilized in Fire Steakhouse, Taste Buffet and on our Food Truck, Good to Go.
As many small producers in Alabama have difficulty discovering profitable supply channels, farms such as Oakview Farms have found innovative ways to obtain market access by catering to niche markets- including restaurants. Wind Creek Hospitality is supporting the farm in their efforts – and hopes to see more small farms have similar opportunities.
Established in 1998 as Oakview Farms Granary, the farm was originally a stone burr gristmill, general store and whole grain source. In recent years, the farm expanded efforts and now has a diverse hydroponic greenhouse operation, a blueberry U-pick operation, a Strawberry U-pick operation and a honey bee farm. In addition, the farm is a local grower for fresh seasonal vegetables. Oakview Farms believes in food safety, freshness and quality. The farm offers sustainably grown vegetables and fruits, chemical free and organic grains, raw honey, fresh farm eggs, meat goats, bulk grains, and Bosch bread baking equipment.
