END.
dissolvendae:
It had been so long since she’s seen those eyes. They used to be filled with such passion and enamor, honey-colored hues to which she sought comfort in once upon a time. But now, as she stares longer and longer, the unfamiliarity hits her with little to no shock. They were not the same eyes of the one she once called her family.
They had lost their spark along the way, and instead had been flooded with a desire for vengeance.
A look of spite through and through.
“… I could go on forever as to why they make me happy. Though I suppose the main reason they do is because… Because they have shown me what it’s really like to be accepted– to have real friends, and to be loved in a way I never thought I could be loved. They do not judge, and they haven’t… They haven’t hurt me.” Blake swallows dryly, digging her nails into her arms out of anxiety. The familiar ache of tears begins to well up in her eyes, yet she dares not show such weakness.
Certainly not while confronting him.
“Unlike…”
You.
But she cannot bring herself to say it. Even now.
“ Are you really holding back your tears when any breath we take could be our last? ” He scoffs. Looking off to the pool. Taking a long and hard sip of the drink. “ Just do it. You and I will be gone, soon. None of this matters. ”
That’s not the real thought weighing on his mind, however. There’s a mental stillness he hasn’t been capable of possessing for ages-- knowing that the slate is about to be wiped clean means there’s no point in fighting. No point in his crusade, when the war will be won without having to lift a finger. In this moment of clarity, he attempts to wrap himself around Blake’s explanation.
“ I still don’t understand it. How you can say they haven’t hurt you. They all have an innate fear of the unknown. A hatred for things not like themselves. ” Adam finishes the drink. Tossing that too into the sand. “ And I suppose I never will. ” He pauses.
“ I despise you, Blake Belladonna. ” His nose wrinkles, and eyes squeeze shut. Form flickers, as though the sheer emotion that contorts his face is enough to void his presence entirely. “ You left me. You, who I thought would always be there at my side... each and every day, I’ve dwelled on this betrayal. You... ”
He turns to her. Form looming over her, a hand coming to cup her chin, tilt it up to force her gaze upon him. “ I wish I could understand it. Your happiness. Your insistence... that the path you’ve chosen is better. ” It infuriates him. Remembering the girl he used to call his sister. His comrade. The one he swore to protect, sacrificed his own food for, threw his body in the place of her’s when they were young and constantly in the crosshairs of humanity’s cruel inclinations. “ That happiness... it makes me sick. ” He snarls the last part. But then his heavy frown twitches, internal conflict boiling to the surface.
“ I want it for myself. I want... ” A pause. He pulls back from Blake, turning back to the water. Fingers on one hand curling into a fist so tight his knuckles crack. “ I want to know what it is to be happy. I want... ” He suddenly cuts himself off, kicking at the sand violently, whipping around to pace past Blake, hand settling on the hilt of his half buried blade. “ But I can’t have. I can’t have peace. I can’t have you. ”
A deep inhale. Exhale. He buries his palms into his closed eyes, then turns back, tentatively placated after his outburst. “ None of this matters. So just... fucking cry, Blake. I don’t care. Not anymore. Cry, yell, smile. Just do something. Just... make these last moments count. ” Back is turned to her, still. He pushes the blade further down into the sand. “ And I will, too. ”
Mountainous form shifts back in Blake’s direction. His body flickers. Once, twice. “ It doesn’t bring me peace, knowing how good you had it with them. Blake... I want to say that I’m sorry. I do. But... I can’t. You know I can’t. ” The bitterness and the rage is too much. Peaking at a point of no return years ago. “ So I’ll say this, instead. ” His stare is intent. Golden eyes burning with desperation. Trying to reach out and grasp at a concept beyond his reach.
“ Goodbye, Blake Belladonna. ”
He holds his stare for a second longer. Then, like a recording reaching the end of its tape, static consumes him. With a final, unceremonious flicker like all the rest, Adam Taurus is gone.
dissolvendae:
Certainly a look she knew all too well. It does not go ignored on her own accord, though she does not react to it either. There was not much else for either of them to do in the end of it all.
Nothing to save, and nothing to destroy.
“So it is.”
A pause, looking behind her for only a moment. Might as well not let it go to waste. She glances at him once more, looking to her drink again before picking it up. It was still a bit frosty; enough for one person to enjoy.
She takes a sip before offering the rest to him.
“Congratulations.”
At the offer, he initially does not seem to acknowledge it. Eyes staring her down behind the mask. But then he starts forward again, and with a powerful thrust, shoves Wilt and Blush into the sand. A tomb for his blade, until that too drifts away with the wind. He takes the drink, holding it almost quizzically.
And then he removes the visor, tossing it into the sand alongside his weapon. Golden eyes revealed, skin around them laced with scars. “ I’m trying to understand, Blake. I really am. But I haven’t been able to figure it out yet. ” Words slip into a frustrated tone. “ How you could find happiness with them. ”
dissolvendae:
He moves forward, yet she does not flinch. She has grown past that– grown far beyond the expectations of many. For the best… and perhaps for the worst, depending on who she had been up against. The latter had been appropriate for this certain situation. Blake’s head tilts a bit upward to keep her eyes on him, face twisting into a pout before breathing a huff through her nose.
Tainted. Right.
“I hate to disappoint you, but there is nothing I need to be saved from. Not from my friends, not from my family… Not from the path I chose which strayed away from your own.” Just as stubborn as ever.
“For your own sake, don’t waste your energy on me anymore, Adam. I’m sure you can find more regrets than just that.”
A twinge, a pulse of anger rattles his bones. Maybe Blake can identify it. The subtle hardening of his face. Mouth opening in an inhale, partially baring his canines. He stays it. What’s the point? It’s the end of the fucking world. “ What else should I tell you, Blake? ” His voice is eerily steady. Irate, yes, but not dangerously so.
“ I don’t have to worry about purging the ones who would subdue us any longer. ” Gestures around the area with the broad sweep of his hand. “ The world is taking care of that on my behalf. ”
dissolvendae:
She is only silent for a few moments. Not much to think about, truthfully. Only say what is on her mind.
“… Of course we can.”
It was strange. How her voice softened perhaps a bit too impulsively; the civility between them had been complete foreign territory. Lazily her head tilts to the side, allowing her body to relax as well. Perhaps it was a mistake. A foolish, optimistic mistake to let her guard down.
But hey. What does she have to lose?
“Goodbye, hm?”
The edge of his lip curls upward at the sight of those humans, despicable, carefree, ignorant to everything except their own struggles. He forces his gaze back to Blake. Fingers curling into a loose fist, then stretching out. He steps forward. “ Maybe this is what had to be done. Eliminate everything, to save a world beyond salvation. ” A pause. “ Even you were tainted, in the end. ” He looks off. “ My only regret is that I couldn’t save you. ”
dissolvendae:
“… Not the man I once knew– who I thought I knew.” A sigh, eyes trailing to his blade for a moment before gazing at him once more, arms folding in a nonchalant manner.
“Why are you here.”
He ignores the first comment. Not giving any ground, but his imposing form refuses to budge backwards, as well. “ Are you too good to talk with your own kind now, Blake? Can’t we have a simple conversation? ” A pause before he lifts his head to a playful scene of indulgence. Citizens playing and laughing with each other as the world crumbles.
“ I came to say goodbye. ”
dissolvendae:
Talk about short lived.
An ear twitches when her name is called by a familiar voice. It grates against her insides, causing a chill to prickle down her spine as he does so. For a moment she believes it to be her mind playing tricks on her… Something that hasn’t happened in quite a while.
She wishes her eyes deceived her when she turned to the looming figure behind her.
Blake stands to her feet with caution as she settles her drink beside her, swallowing thickly while keeping her eye on him. There was no way… There should not have been any way.
But lo and behold.
He was there.
“… Adam.”
“ What’s with the look on your face, Blake? ” A pause. Long and stiff, heavyset frown unmoving. “ You would think that a stranger is standing in front of you. Not the one who would have given anything for you. Not me. ”
Anyway, she’ll be drinking mimosa’s at the poolside while watching everything turn to shit. Feel free to join her at your own expense.
A figure glitches into existence a few feet behind her. It seems purposeful; he’s watching from the second he sputters in, but he makes no sudden movement. Even with blade in hand, he is idle. Until he inhales, and calls a name. “ Blake. ”
nuttin’ but trouble.
The man-- simple, human, an ordinary citizen of the Hive-- whimpers as he’s thrown onto the floor before the Condesce. Adam stands tall behind him, one foot in front of the other in a pose of scornful elegance. “ Found him sniffing around the corridor. ” Comes the bull’s response, distaste on his tongue. There’s a nudge at the man’s side, with the tip of his boot, before Adam takes a few heavyset steps forward, kneeling to grab hold of his chin, force it upwards to look him in the eye. “ Well? Care to explain to her Grace why you’ve been caught trespassing within her abode? ”
@imperiouswag
when you’ve just rejoined mfrp for the first time in months and you know you cant bite off more than you can chew but you have another blog made and you’re playing mental tug of war whether to do it or not
whohassummonedme:
“You forget what I have said. Your conviction was proven. Others have let their plans fall to the side when presented with enough difficulties, and when returning from a long absence. You have been scarred and yet you continue. I admire that.” An orb appears in his hand, containing the city, which he crushes. “Allow an old man a chance to do better.”
There is a pause. Before the book is lowered to his side. “ I’ll accept it. ” Still, he doesn’t look away, the defensive and proud tension in his body obvious. “ I suppose... in this city, one of our own kind is more likely to come to the proper understanding of what I do. Should this serve me well... it won’t be forgotten. ”
witch-of-origins:
“oh… Could Maria at least please have Maria’s Grimoire and Sakutarou back? They’re very important! One is Maria’s familiar and one is one of the most important tools for any Witch! Maria is working extra hard on the book to make it perfect, uu!”
She could at least hope to have those back. She thanked her lucky stars the man wasn’t cold hearted enough to taunt her for the speech ticks she couldn’t control. Not yet at the very least. Tiny hands dropped and began to fidget with her skirt.
Head tilts slightly-- he doesn’t quite understand what she’s going on about, but perhaps she isn’t the straightforward, simpleminded human girl he thought her to be. “ Oh? And what are those supposed to be? ” His only response; curiosity, and a slight open-mindedness toward her. The non-humans of this city can be deceptive, sometimes.
whohassummonedme:
It’s a book. The pages are blank.
A wave of his hand, and the pages fill. Inside are simple spells, ones only requiring a star-shaped object on hand with which to channel. “The words will only appear if you, or those like you, are holding the book. I would rather not let this fall into… judging hands, and as such it is enchanted. So, what say you, Mr. Taurus? I would be in your debt.”
It’s a good gift. A gift that furthers his causes. Adds strategies to his coffers. But he’ll read, he’ll listen, only to snap the book shut in one hand, looking up to the knight with a heavy frown. “ Why? You’re like me and the others who fight for justice-- but you hid in the shadows when a call to arms was raised. Why offer this now? ”
witch-of-origins:
Maria stood slowly, rubbing her tiny bottom where she had landed. She switched her gaze between Adam and her bag, wondering if he planned to play keep away with it. She played with a little pine needle in her hand and nodded slowly. The other reached out slowly, mentally preparing herself to lose or have to beg for her bag back.
“At least Maria wasn’t too far off the ground, uu. If it had been a foot or two higher, Maria might be in real trouble. Thank you for catching Maria’s bag though. It wouldn’t have been fun if the berries spilled and the jar broke.”
“ I didn’t catch it for you. Spare me your hollow thanks. ” His outstretched arm remains that way, the other clenched around his sheathed blade. “ Actions have consequences. You climbed too high. You get what you deserve. ”
Is it improper, to chastise a child? No-- these are the children that grow to be cruel, cruel adults.
@taureaus
“Uh oh.”
Maria stared at the branch, eyes going wide as a crack rippled in the air. She had been working without much thought. Her careful hands plucking endless berries from a limb above her. No mind paid to the branch she put stress on.
And now, here they were. A tiny Witch falling towards the ground, her bag and plush toy left behind.
Mere happenstance brings them together at the same time. Adam watches as this unfortunate accident occurs-- most certainly in a position to help, to catch her before she hits the earth. But he remains rooted in place, golden eyes without empathy. Though a hand will extend to catch the strap of her bag as it slips from the tree, coming down after her. It will not be offered back.
“ You overreached. ” A cold reply, as frigid as his stare and statuesque stance.
