Bloodymary dynamic where simon is working towards his degree and for his internship he has to work under grace because no one else would take him. grace is a molecular biologist and that has little to nothing to do with what simon is studying but anything is better than nothing and theyre both a bit of outcasts in their fields (or grace was, before the petrova problem.) so whats the worst that could happen? really, he should be greatful someone as highly regarded as dr.grace was willing to do this for him.
he expects to see someone more ragged when they meet. after all, wasn't dr.grace the man that insulted and belittled a fellow scientist all those years ago? someone as ballsy as that wasn't going to be easy, especially with simon's reputation. or at least someone more intimidating- he basically lead the astrophage research. some would say hes one of (if not the) best scientist of their time. he had to know that, right?
and yet when he first sees him (hunched over his microscope, completely distracted) he can tell he couldn't be more wrong. dr. grace took a moment to realize simon was there but when he did, the smile that crossed his face could rival the stars.
maybe simon, who was prepared to submit to the savior of his education (and the savior of the world), would actually be able to enjoy this.
