the drake family is a long, prestigious lineage of magicians as old as lazarus itself. each generation seemingly more powerful and successful than the last, fed by ambition, ego, and the power that courses through their veins. failure is unheard of. mistakes are corrective setbacks. blemishes are entirely beneath them.
these four children are the latest generation in a long line of drakes who have the world at their fingertips. their father, alder drake, a gifted elemental magician, like his family members before him, who married for love and power among the aristocracy. ebony drake, herself, is also a gifted and talented magician who not only has the wealth and power of her status, but a marriage of minds with her husband that has served them well over the years. they raised their children with the ideology that the world was their oyster, lazarus was for the taking, and that they could do anything they set their minds to, as long as they did it well and it was appropriate. childish dreams were slaughtered when the first touch of magic manifested themselves and each child was nurtured and driven with calculated precision to appropriate fields tailored to their skills and interests.
rowan shattered every expectation of a drake when he quickly became nothing but ordinary from a young age. he was thought to be a “late bloomer,” attached to hope and a desire to belong as his older siblings excelled at everything they touched and his twin sister, fen, was set to become no different from edan and aster. outsiders looking in would call him a dose of reality to a family so high off their own prestige. his parents were struck with concern, his siblings confused and uncomfortable. and when his preteen years came to a close and no magic seemed to touch him, he was cast out by his parents and handed over to a team of magicians and scientists studying the anomaly of barrens. he was unceremoniously scrubbed from the family tree, and life continued on as normal.
i have a few ideas for each sibling, but these are entirely up to negotiation, as well as the faces. i just picked a few faces that could pass as relatives to matt. overall, i feel that rowan is just a painful reminder to his siblings about the uncertainties of life and that perfection is not as in reach as they were raised into thinking. an ominous warning to remain in line, feed into the same prescriptions as the generations before them, or face the consequences. and tbh rowan does not take very kindly to his abandonment, and his rage (though very unthreatening to them lbr because he has no magic) would be just a fun thing to crop up every once in a while. hell, maybe some of them don’t even know that rowan is alive? which would also be a lot of fun to rp out. but i'll leave that totally up to the individual player. i also love drama as much as the next person, so anything juicy is 100% fine with me and i encourage it. you are also more than welcome to tie this into any other request or plot if you feel the character fits.
edan drake (josh hartnett) is the eldest sibling, primed to inherit the family name. also, notably, the only son. he probably has the most pressure on his shoulders, currently, but he’d never show it. for his magical abilities, i believe he is an elemental magician, falling along the normal family projection. maybe not fire, like his name suggests, but earth or water. he's charismatic, charming, and would do well in a political, governing, or law-enforcement role. any of those professions would easily establish him as a young man to watch, and an even better marriageable prospect. i imagine he has suitors, if not already married with a young family of his own. if he is a bachelor, he’s probably getting pressured to settle down soon and might be having problems coming to terms with that for whatever reason. overall i believe he plays his role well and is definitely making his dear mother and father proud.
aster drake (jamie alexander) is the second-oldest and was all too eager to prove herself as a drake from a very young age. as the middle child, she was not going to be overlooked while her brother was being primed for a proverbial throne, or forgotten once the twins were born. she is sharp. she is brutal. she burns hot like the magic fire from her fingertips and leaves no survivors in her wake once she puts her mind to an objective. she is a gifted tactician and soldier, and over the years despite blatant disregard for her superiors that were not as intelligent as herself, she has ascended to a powerful military position. she balances obligation and career very well, but do not expect her to kiss the coattails of the men of the aristocracy. she deals in respect instead of niceties, which makes her an eyesore of a woman at a formal event, but she often has the eye of every person in the room on her at any given moment. she is not a woman who can be bought with a dowry or a few plesant words, and that makes her all the more desirable.
fen drake (jade tailor) may be one of the most powerful drakes to ever exist, and it makes her sick. aster would kill her for the power she possesses, and edan is eager to have her meet all his friends. her mother and father have set her on a few sensible paths throughout the years, but nothing seems to hold her interest or skills long enough to decide. all she can think about is how she’d be average if half her magic was where it belonged: with her brother. she blames herself, partially, for rowan’s barrenness, and finds that swallowed guilt manifesting itself in self-sabotage. she risks the favor of her family by keeping in touch with the brother and best friend she lost in what seems like another life, spending days on the aragon swell when life is too overwhelming to bear. many know it as typical rebellious behavior she’s had since the day her brother disappeared. the blessing and curse is that she knows she can get away with it because her family, despite how much she fucks up, would never abandon her the way they did rowan.
