From time to time for about a year after the Fontaine Archon Quest IV, I see post (from twitter to reddit) asking why some Childe Mains claim Tartaglia fight the “Whale” for 45 days or more.
Breaking down the timeline
Tartaglia’s disappearance. He stayed in Meropide at the very least for a week, triggering 2 hidden rules and enabling the creation of mystery during pipe-cleaning day, he then vanished.
Pipe-cleaning days is Meropide’s regular cleaning of the drainage and happens 3 times per month, every 10 days.
To the Stars Shining in the Depths, Lost in Deep Seas
Nuevillette reached out to Tabibito and within a day, Tabibito and Paimon were sent to Meropide.
1st Day – Tabibito and Paimon got sentence for 45 days and Wriothesley’s Meropide Tour
2nd Day – Production Zone and Lyney & Lynette meet up.
3rd Day – Pankration Ring
4th Day – 1st Hidden Rule
5th 6th 7th Day – Apply for 3 continuous working days on the 7th day received the “strange meal box.”
8th Day – 2nd Hidden Rule: bought tickets for both competing fighters.
9th Day – Receive the mysterious package.
10th Day – Cannibals and Pipe-cleaning day
11th Day – Meet up with Lyney and reconvene after 9 days.
Cataclysm’s Quickening, Into the Deepwater Murk
20th Day – The Truth Shrouded in Shadow to Calamitous Tread (another pipe-cleaning day)
21st Day – Meeting with Furina and Arlecchino during the day also investigation in Meropide done (granted freedom)
22nd - 45th Day – Game of the Rich (World Quest)
Some or most players probably forgot that the World Quest happened simultaneously with the Archon Quest. Game of the Rich World Quest had 3 ways of commencing (Get spotted by a Meropide searchlight or entering through broken underwater pipes, After completing the Archon Quest To the Stars Shining in the Depths, or even if the Archon Quest is not completed) but reading the dialogues will show very clearly that canonical timeline would be sentencing Tabibito for 45 days in Meropide, 1st 20 days doing the Archon Quest and the rest of the remaining days doing the World Quest.
Even if say, Tabibito did not finished the 45 days sentence and leave on the 22nd day, there still some days in between the Calamitous Tread and when The All-Devouring Narwhal Appears, Tartaglia’s appearance in the Opera Epiclese, making him fight the “Whale” at the very least 25-30 days which is still a very impressive feat.
