   THERE WAS A TREPIDATION IN HIS STEP.  Fear caught between the sharp pace that hadn’t fallen into a flat out run through the hallways. YET.  Fear tight in his chest in a way that not even the screeching of engines and tumbling of rapid fire canons in the midst of a dogfight could recreate. Poe wondered mutely if it would have been prudent to take a moment to change out of his flight gear and into a neatly pressed u n i f o r m  - though the summons, while not entirely unexpected, had still put the wind up the pilot enough to have him jog from the hanger bay while still trying to wrangle off his helmet.   D i s o b e d i e n c e   hadn’t been a particular DECISION in Dameron’s mind when he had climbed into place behind the controls of the TIE.... losing had been even less so however. To say he was sorry for what he had done would be a lie Poe would probably  c h o k e  on should he be forced to utter it. Because he wasn’t. His ignoring direct orders had been the turning point in that fight. Reckless though it might have been, they had achieved the victory and the lives of his squadron were still intact instead of scattered in floating pieces throughout the void of space. He had done what had needed to be done. 

Now if he could get everyone else to see that, then he might avoid being pieces floating through space...

The hiss of the door sliding back has tension RIPPLE through a spine as booted feet cross the threshold. Dameron’s eyes ticking to the officer and cloaked figure deep in conversation. Feeling himself grip that bit tighter to he helmet tucked beneath a right arm before his finding his voice.  ‘ You requested my presence, Lord Vader? ’

IT WASN’T HIS FIRST ATTEMPTED ARREST. Not the first time, if he was caught, that he would feel the chill of First Order binders around his wrists either...not by a long shot. It seemed to be a nasty habit he’d developed over recent years. Though the FAMILIARITY of the act made the pilot move no less quickly to get away from his rapidly encroaching would-be captors. In fact, there was something about the humming c r a c k l e of a flickering lightsaber at your back that put a special brand of adrenaline in your step. A distinct sort of alertness to your surroundings that made everything incredibly loud and incredibly muted at the same time. Poe taking cover at speed passed two downed troopers. Their armor still lightly smoking and singed at the necks from his well timed blaster shots. Dameron pressing his back against low cover. Breathing harsh, constricting in his chest. Trying to catch his breath. Weapon heated in his hands.

  ‘ Y’know, you really need to teach these guys better aim. At this point it’s a WASTE of perfectly good armor. ’

Fingers tightening on his blaster Poe THREW himself out of cover, aiming for hooded figures chest. Aiming a rapid bloom of fire at Ren’s chest that he wasn’t naive enough to believe would do anything more then offer distraction. But distraction was good. Distraction he could work with. HOPEFULLY.

“He just killed an officer for interrupting him. This might take a while.”

“Well, I did disintegrate a few of them.”

“Looks like you’re stuck with me now, partner!”

“Do we need to leave the room or something?”

“Funny, the man that left me behind is now my savior.”

    THE CHAOS THAT HAD ERUPTED IN THE HANGER BAY HAD FINALLY CALMED. Shouts of pilots and officers that had momentarily become a cacophony of sound, now back to some semblance of order....unfortunately. Poe’s aching fist and bruising from less that friendly troopers dragging him from the area, the only remnants of what had transpired. Well...that and the broken nose he’d hopefully managed to gift the Captain that had made the very bad judgement call to open his mouth in the first place within ear shot of the once ex-republic pilot.  

    Had he needed to slam the mans face into the bay door of a waiting shuttle as well? Probably not. But the flurry of victory that followed was worth it. Poe looking down now at the dried blood on bruised knuckles with a dark sort of  t r i u m p h . The taste of adrenaline for once overwhelming the acrid BURN of defeat that scorched and choked in his throat each time he put this damned uniform on. Fingers of an unbruised hand tucking inside the collar of the sharply tailored tunic as the pilot waited outside the office he had been called to. Leaning back against the cold steel of the ship with purposefully neglected posture.

    Small rebellions were better than nothing after all.

also when I say he would be terrifying in the FO...keep in mind that he took down Starkiller base and the Resistance literally had his X-WING specially modified with stealth paint because this man is so confident, reckless and good at what he does, he will fly up to a Star Destroyer and get in it’s face all by himself while taking out it’s surface canons. He gives zero fucks. Just imagine him coming at you in a screaming TIE-fighter.

just pointing out that i still 100% think Poe and Hux are very similar people and that  Poe would be absolutely terrifying as a part of the FO. other pilots would fucking SCATTER when he enters the hanger and he and Hux would butt heads because Poe has a terrible time listening to orders when he thinks he’s right
