❛ Y’know, I’m a little surprised. ❜
With a grin, Daichi leans over and languidly offers the other an extra water bottle as they settle on the bench. His posture is relaxed – a little slumped, maybe, from the intensity of the practice, but still easy and open.
❛ I didn’t think your serves could get any stronger. ❜
He pauses, thoughtfully tilting his head to the side as he weighs and examines his words. It’s not precisely what he means; Daichi has never doubted Asahi’s ability and desire to improve, and the words ring a little off to him.
❛ No, that’s not it. Maybe it’s that they were already so powerful, it’s kind of a shock to see them grow even more. ❜
He accepts the bottle grateful, a quick nod and muttered thanks, and joins the captain on the bench; his own posture mimicking his slumped one. He takes a few quick gulps of water and relishes in the coldness that trickles down his throat ----- with Nationals on it’s way, practice has been more intense and strenuous than usual, it was nice to finally catch a break, not that Asahi really minded the extra long hours, they did need the training after all.
A brow quirks in response to his comment and he glances over towards the other, before an easy smile breaks out on his flushed, sweaty features. ❛ A couple of months ago, I might have thought the same. ❜ He laughs, almost nostalgically as he thinks back to a time not that long ago ----- back when his confidence was almost none existent. But a lot has changed since then and with his acceptance of being Karasuno’s Ace, he needed to work hard to fill the shoes laid out before him. ❛ But after our last excursion to Tokyo, and especially after what happened with Hinata that one time, it made me want to strive to become stronger. I didn’t want to be the only one left behind. ❜
