“It feels like it. I knew something horrible was going to happen but it didn’t matter cause it wasn’t happening to me. It was happening to someone who I thought go what she had coming being she knew that kinda person he was. However when what happened on her got my friend in trouble then he found out what she did and what I knew I watched his world burn down months before but didn’t a last but see him now kills me.”

George chuckled at her quick comment. “A sense of purpose and meaning… Whether you find that in the church or in– anywhere. That’s what we ultimately need, right?” He offered her a kind smile before nodding at her statement. “Oh, there is definitely bad in this world and, unfortunately, a lot of it seems to be attracted to Las Vegas,” he agreed. In fact, the bad seemed to follow George wherever he went. Not just in his job, where it would be expected, but in his personal life too. He was swamped with demons. 

“I’ve seen it, I was it or maybe I’m still a part of the bad that’s in the world. I scared to find out if I’m being honest.” sighing she shook her head. “I made a promise a long time ago to be there for someone; and I have I don’t everything for them but she has too. I don’t know I’m torn.”

She still had a shit ton of save the date invites to get out in the mail and she’d run out of stamps so her focus wasn’t really on ear hustling the other’s conversation.

“I might be small but I’m sure I could handle you.” she told him as she handed her credit card over. “Now whose being rude now. -At his words she rolled her eyes.- Yeah cause I’m sure someone like you would know all about karma. Who the fuck are you tell me anything. You’re just a burrito eating foul mouth son of a bitch.” she told in a calm voice like she was talking to a child.

But that’s the great thing about churches– a lot of them are open throughout the night too.”

“In what’s that? Let me guess God? A purpose of divine hope?” she chuckled. Shaking her head she looks at him. “I’m sorry. I’m being a word I want say in church but it rhymes with witch.” sighing again and feeling the need to say sorry yet again she stops. “I believe in god I do. I believe in something bigger then me that I can’t see or touch but I also believe in the bad too.” she stops feeling a wave of emotion hit her. “I come to church when I need it.”

          Waiting in the line for coffee was something Rebecca did often. Before work, after work, in breaks, she just went to the nearest coffee shop for her quick fix and maybe to grab some food as well. That was one of those days, and one of the days where the line seemed to be endless, as well. As she waited, arms crossed, behind a woman, she couldn’t help but to eavesdrop on her part of the conversation, seeing as it was a bit hard to listen to what was happening on the other side of the phone. It wasn’t a long conversation, but she never expected the woman to turn around and address to her. 

“This looked like a really heated argument. Are you okay?”

“Yeah. I’m sorry. Its just my job I’m a lawyer and my father has tasked me with starting a firm out here. He wants me to fail, My brother who I love but who would rather not say anything to make waves just told me that dear old dear is working against me.” she wanted to scream.  “If I fail he fails but he’s to blind to see it.”

“Oh this was a one off, I kinda have this thing where I come when I need it and run when I do. Sorry I bet that made me sound like a horrible person. I don’t know maybe I am and I’m kidding myself but as lovely as this church is I don’t think it will see much of me in the day light.”

      “Amen,” George muttered under his breath as he finished his silent prayers and mantras. “I didn’t know you came to this church,” he spoke quietly without turning around as he heard the quiet footsteps on the marble flooring behind him.

“Yeah, I found it on google. I was really into church when I was younger but as I got older I guess some on stay I lost my way.” she sighted. She didn’t lose her way she just stop worrying so hard about what other people thought of her. “I just needed to come somewhere that was home.”

“You can’t do this to me. We had a deal then you try to change the terms are you crazy.” she hissed in the phone. Talking lowly in the phone she give the person on the other end a few hard facts. “I knew you would see it my way. Working against me isn’t a smart move for anyone at all.” she picked Vegas she rather her father think she just wanted to forget how badly she fucked up but this was always the plan she just needed a reason to leave. Building a new Bennett law firm, she needed a reason to live here and be seen.  

Turning to put the phone down she made eye contact with the person behind her. “Yes what I put up with.”

Looking around the apartment she wouldn’t call it home but it would do, and for twenty-five thousand a month it better. She was looking around the kitchen when she heard someone creep up on her, turning around she gave them an annoyed look.

“I told you back at the gas station that the car was running hot, but no you dismissed what I said. The car ran hot and blow the hose we need to wait for it to cool the put the hose back on then turn around back to the gas station.” she huffed.
