Me @ myself while drinking Blood Orange Boost
DAY 18: Blood Orange Boost
In my 4 years of writing tea reviews, I think this is my longest streak of actually writing the reviews. Usually I am super amped for the first 10 days, then I get bored or get a debilitating sinus infection that knocks me out for a week. So far *knock on wood* neither of those two things have happened! I think I’m just so bored.. considering my only quarantine hobbies have been watching an obscene amount of Netflix and scream singing show tunes. You know you were feeling some type of way during quarantine when your “Spotify Wrapped” top 10 includes both Drake and Liza Minnelli.
Today’s tea is Blood Orange Boost and it smells amazing. Very citrus-y, which I think I need considering I have not been spending too much time outside lately... Will I end the year in a very 2020 way and get scurvy? Stay tuned!
Ok this tea sort of tastes like soap, but it is not the worst tea I’ve had this year (looking at you, Forever Frosty.) I guess the “Boost” comes from the jolt of your senses when you think “oh god, am I drinking soap?” It’s a fun experience and I kind of like it? I might actually finish this mug? Doctor’s on standby.

DAY 17: Organic David’s Breakfast Blend
This will be a short review because this is a very basic tea. I love a classic English breakfast tea and I can certainly use the caffeine kick on this cloudy chilly day! If you like English breakfast tea, this isn’t a bad one, though I’m sure you could find cheaper options elsewhere versus buying at David’s Tea. If I’m buying from David, I want it to be a tea I can’t get elsewhere! But it’s good to know that the classic options are available.

DAY 16: Forever Frosty
I did not post yesterday because it was a chamomile tea and that is for bedtime. But I forgot to drink it before bed yesterday because I was pre-occupied watching this movie called “Noelle” on Disney+. This is a PSA to everyone: don’t watch that movie. It is the most boring movie ever. It’s sort of Christmas-y in the sense that it is about Santa Claus, but also it mostly takes place at a strip mall in like Arizona. I was mad throughout the entire movie because it sucked so bad. And it stars Anna Kendrick and Bill Hader, so I was really hoping for more! So yeah, do not watch that movie, it’s really weird and all the characters are annoying. DON’T WASTE YOUR TIME, JUST WATCH HOME ALONE INSTEAD AND AVOID DISAPPOINTMENT. Anyway, the tea today is called Forever Frosty and I am excited hoping that this will be like Forever Nuts.
Oh dear god, no. No no no no no this smells so weird. Nothing at all like Forever Nuts. I can’t even describe what it smells like, it’s so bad. I see a marshmallow in there? The David’s Tea website claims that this is a “holiday spin” on Forever Nuts.... Okay... Sure... I guess we’re all defining things ~a little differently~ in quarantine. It also says that they threw in orange and cloves, but all I am getting is the putrid smell of chemicals and my own sadness.
This tastes like how Noelle made me feel. I just want to shoot it with a flaming arrow and send it to hell. This one gets a sink dump after 3 sips. 1/10
DAY 14: Snow Day
Holy cow, you know how a smell can take you back to a very specific moment or time? That’s what this tea is doing for me right now. I have been transported back to December 2013, sipping this tea while studying for my Canadian Political Institutions exam. I was also really into Twin Peaks at the time. Oh, to be 19 again.
The tea itself is ok. It’s like a mint chocolate. It’s only ok. But I loved it in 2013. I remember going to David’s Tea when I was on break at my job at the mall and I was told it was a Christmas bestseller, so I bought that and one other that I can’t remember the name of currently. I’ll remember it if I smell it! Anyway, I wouldn’t buy this tea now. I suppose my taste buds have changed cause this tea is just not my jam anymore.

DAY 13: Salted Caramel Oolong
The name of this one seems promising. I love a salted caramel anything. But smelling this, I’m worried it’s going to be super sweet so I didn’t put too much tea in my steeper. I’ve had WAY too much sweetness this weekend after getting into all my Christmas baking #noragrets
I don’t know how I feel about this one. I can definitely taste the oolong, which I like. And I can taste the caramel, which I also like. But there’s another taste in there that I can’t put my finger on and it’s throwing me off. It doesn’t taste bad, it’s just... off. But I also can’t stop drinking it. Like it’s a weird taste, but it’s also one that I can’t stop wanting to taste to try and figure out what the taste is. Does that make sense? Probably not, but I’m too tired to try and edit.

DAY 12: Just Peachy
Another favourite! This was in the calendar 2 years ago and I LOVED it. So much so that I actually bought a box. So good. It smells like a fuzzy peach candy but it’s not sweet or sour like that. It’s like peach juice but diluted and hot so it’s not as sweet. It’s a great tea and it still lives up to the hype I gave it 2 years ago. Just call me Princess Peach cause this tea is perfect.

Friday in December energy in my apartment today!!
DAY 11: Candy Cane Crush
Uh oh... this is the one that last year that looked like gravy and barely tasted like anything. It still smells great and looks great in the jar BUT I WILL NOT BE FOOLED AGAIN. Putting more tea in the steeper this time so hopefully it has a taste.
Ok it’s actually pretty good. Still definitely looks like gravy but it tastes like chocolate and peppermint, which I think is what it was going for last year. This would be great with a bit of Bailey’s but today I am choosing to drop a mini candy cane in it to give it an extra peppermint kick. It’s a tasty tea but I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it. I’m sorry my reviews have been so boring this year but David has blessed us with a fine tea harvest! Merry Christmas to me.

DAY 10: Organic Silk Dragon Jasmine
I have declared today a day of rest, so I will make this quick. This is a classic tea for me. I feel like anyone would like this tea. I don’t think there’s anything super special to it but it’s good. It sort of tastes like green tea but with a sort of floral taste. Are green tea and jasmine tea similar? Who truly knows.

DAY 9: Merry Mistletoe
Ok so obviously I jinxed things yesterday when I said all the teas have been good so far... This one smells CRAZY. Like when I first smelled it my head immediately jerked back. It’s bad and I’m scared to drink it.
I don't quite understand the dark magic happening here but it actually doesn’t taste bad. Like I really don’t hate it. It doesn’t taste the way it smells. It’s weird. Not my favourite tea because it’s quite sweet. It tastes like hot cranberry juice cocktail. I don’t love it but I expected much worse.

DAY 8: Caramel Shortbread
Hallelujah!!! I’m so happy this was included this year. Caramel Shortbread was my favourite tea last year. It’s so buttery and nutty and warm and just SO GOOD. I wish I had a candle that smells like it. To be honest, I am very surprised that most of the teas have been pretty good this year (knock on wood). The flavours have been creative but not wildly out there and disgusting. I don’t think I’ve given any really savage reviews yet? Well, it’s only December 8th. David might want me to get my hopes up for a month of good tea and then he’ll drop Strawberry Rhubarb Parfait on me....
Yes, this one is still great. I love it.

DAY 7: Vanilla Cappuccino
I am HERE for this one!! This is right up my alley but I am skeptical because the theme of this tea season has been that it smells great in the jar but the taste is a let down. But I can see little coffee beans in there, so I have a good feeling about this one. This tea smells exactly like a vanilla cappuccino you’d get from a gas station, but I mean that sincerely as a compliment. My friends and I used to get gas station vanilla cappuccinos when we were like 15 and we thought we were so cool drinking coffee. Good ol’ Barrhaven times.
Ok I LOVE this. I made sure to put lots of tea in the steeper because I wanted that strong coffee and vanilla taste and that is exactly what I got. This is my favourite tea I’ve had this season! I think I would actually buy this. I’m thinking if I put a splash of coffee in it, it would be even tastier.

DAY 6: Gingerbread Blondie
I was so excited when I saw this tea because I had it last year and remember loving it. I am not loving it as much this year. It’s too ginger-y. But I do not love a strong ginger taste in anything, so I am biased. Maybe I just put more tea in the steeper this time, so that’s why it’s so strong but I don’t remember it having so much ginger last year. So even though I don’t love it, I think anyone who likes ginger would really like this tea. I’m also tasting the cloves, which is nice and makes it taste a bit like gingerbread so I appreciate that and it’s not too sweet. BUT it’s definitely not my favourite. Try this tea if you really like ginger. Maybe it’ll be your new holiday favourite!

DAY 5: Chocolate Chili Chai
Ok so this one started bad because ONCE AGAIN I could not get the damn lid off the jar. I had to get a man to do it for me and I am embarrassed. But good news, this smells SO good. Like I keep smelling it, I look like a weirdo. I love a Mexican hot chocolate. Chocolate pairs so well with spice so I have high expectations for this tea. The water is boiling as we speak.
Ok so this was a let down. It just tastes like a dark chocolate tea, there’s no chili flavour or kick at all. It just tastes like watery hot chocolate. It doesn’t taste the way it smells. Disappointing.

DAY 4: North African Mint
This will be a quick one. It has an earthy mint smell and has a weird, sort of savoury taste that I can’t quite put my finger on but I don’t like it. Maybe mine’s a bad batch? It has a mint taste but it’s not minty enough and has that weird undertone taste. Not my favourite tea for a Friday.
4/10
DAY 3: Chocolate Covered Almond
Yay! A tea I haven’t had before! I’m already so excited because chocolate covered almonds are my FAVOURITE. When I was leaving my old job, my co-worker gave me a massive bag of chocolate covered almonds from Costco and it was in my top 5 favourite gifts I’ve ever received. I’m easy to please. But then my mom had a dinner party and put them out for her guests and they ate the entire bag. A tale of love and loss.
Right away, I love this tea because I was easily able to unscrew the lid. We’re starting out better than yesterday. And, shocker, it smells like chocolate covered almonds. After steeping it for several minutes, I’m noticing that it smells a lot like hot chocolate. This is not a bad thing.
The taste is good. A bit too much chocolate and not enough nutty flavour and saltiness that I was expecting, but I’d say I’m happy with it. Actually, the more I drank it, the more I liked it and I finished the whole mug, which is a first this season.
