Kensington Palace has released a new video featuring 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐖𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐬 while on a family holiday in Cornall earlier this month to mark his eighth birthday | 23 APRIL 2026

Wishing the King and Queen Consort safe travels. I heard recently that the Queen Consort might have poorer health than the King. Just one journalist's take but she does look tentative on her feet. Going over to the US and then Bermuda is a big trip. And meeting lots of people takes a lot out of you. I noticed in the footage from their trip to Ottawa, Canada, that she repeated the same sentence to four people in a row about how the weather was nice there and she was going back to bad weather in the UK. She even did the same hand signal with her thumb. It must be hard sometimes to know what to say, especially if it feels like a bit of a chore too move around. But they travel in style and have many helpers.

Wishing them good health, good times and safe travels. It will be interesting to see if India Hicks features in the photos from Bermuda.

Bronzino (Agnolo di Cosimo di Mariano) Italian 1530s

"The identity of this arrogant young man is unknown, but he must have belonged to Bronzino’s close circle of literary friends in Florence and probably holds a book of poetry. The artist was himself a poet, delighting as much in the beauty of language as he did in the witty and fanciful details of his paintings. Here, Bronzino employs the ancient Roman tradition of fantastical decorations known as grotesques in his rendering of heads on the table and chair, and in the almost hidden, mask-like face suggested in the folds of the youth’s breeches. While these monstrous faces contrast with the youth’s handsome looks, they may also imply that his carefully crafted appearance is similarly a kind of mask."

I love Bronzino's paintings. I've never thought this man looked arrogant, even though the Met's write-up says so. He could also be sensitive or not outgoing. Did he like to read poetry, did the artist say "hold this book" or was it deemed advisable to be seen to like poetry then? Maybe he even liked to read and/or write poetry. One theory is that the young man was from the Florentine literary circle . It has also been pointed out that the angles of the walls in the background are unexpected for a square room.

My favourite Bronzino painting is of Bea.
