The waves were crashing on the shore; it was a lovely sight. This was where the siren was the happiest. She came here to think when the rest of the world didn’t make sense. She wished she could play in the water - splash around like she did in the pool or bathtub - but this was ocean water and she would transform. Shell didn’t want that tonight. She didn’t want to go through that kind of pain again until she absolutely had to. Her body would tell her when it was time for that and it was not tonight.
The sound of someone approaching her caught her off guard. She turned around and hissed until she realized who it was. It was not an enemy. She settled back into the comfort of the sand and dug the heels of her feet into it. She loved how cool it was against her skin. “Shell…think…” She answered softly to let the other know that she had come there to ease her mind. “Too much…in here.” She pointed to her head.

She still wanted to play that game. It was obvious in the tiniest bit of resistance she tried to put up. Fine they’d play it. Anything if get him where he wanted in the end. He just got a little more forceful when she tried to act like she didn’t want it. His grip tightened the rest of the way leaving no more room for her to get away and he practically shoved her inside that bathroom and locked the door behind himself.
“Sluts get all this…” He took her hand and put it on the bulge between his legs to show her just what she was doing to him. Of course he was fucking other girls in the back of his car and anywhere else he could get them. Billy had to have some action in this one horse, shithole town - jerking off just wasn’t enough and he wasn’t going to pretend it was.

Brooke awoke with a gasp from the restless sleep she’d fallen into. The feeling of a hand wrapped tightly around her neck and the weight of Montana’s body pushing her against the wall of her bunk caused her to whimper. The whispered words in her ear ’don’t make a sound or else’ were acknowledged with a slight nod of her head.
It was their first night as roommates in their new home - a cell in the maximum security ward of the California state penitentiary. Brooke knew it was just going to get worse from here. On top of Montana condemning her for the death of her brother she was also blaming her for the loss of her freedom. She tried over and over to tell her that Joey was responsible for Scott and Margaret was responsible for them being in prison - yet nothing she could do or say would change the other woman’s mind on either topic so she’d given up on trying. She’d simply do what she did best. Submit and endure whatever torture awaited her.
Silent tears leaked from her hazel eyes and spilled down her pale cheeks as she shifted obediently to accommodate the hand being shoved between her thighs. She knew better than to say no. Just like all those years spent with Joey. He took what he wanted and she just said yes. That’s all Brooke Thompson had ever said in her life was yes and it didn’t seem that would be changing any time soon.
A small stifled squeak was let out as a not so gentle hand forced its way up her shirt to twist a rosy pink nipple. The other finding it’s way to her bony hip to dig its fingernails into her flesh. “I... I’m sorry...” the words were spoken so softly that Brooke almost questioned if she’d even spoken them aloud even if she knew she had.
Despite everything Joey had done to her she was a virgin - at least in the vaginal sense. Nothing - not even her own finger - had ever penetrated her in that way. Brooke wasn’t sure how much longer that would be true. She was so scared that she wasn’t even slightly wet.

At least that much was true. If Annette did chose to sleep with that despicable monster outside the gates, she was doing it because she wanted to. Still, Madison didn’t want to think anymore about it. He was a snake in the grass and she wasn’t sure that anything about him could be trusted. Not even any information he gave the younger girl if he chose to do so. There was no use in trying to persuade the headstrong young woman not to sleep with Mel. She knew very well that it was a lost cause. Much like Alicia, Annette would do exactly the opposite of anything she was told. “That’s one way to look at it.” Madison herself couldn’t remember the last time she thought about intimacy of the physical nature. Definitely not since she’d become at a widow. Somehow to even think of such a thing felt like a betrayal to Travis and his memory and she had the job of keeping her kids and herself alive to distract her. Her motherly instinct went into full swing when Nick was mentioned and Annette asked if he was seeing anyone. “Nick’s not well. He’s not but he doesn’t have time for that. He’s trying to heal.” When it came to Nick, Madison was very protective over her son that she’d enabled most of his life. “He can’t even go outside the gates right now without having a panic attack.” And Annette was right, Madison did not want to hear those kind of things about her child.

The slightly fearful tone in Skylar’s voice made Rey immediately soften, almost forgoing her plan to dump salt in their hands in favor of wrapping an arm around her friend. Right now, they had to get out of here. She could comfort her later. “‘Think happy thoughts and fly, Wendy,’” she quoted as she gently grabbed the other girl’s hand to pour a handful of salt into, voice soft and calming despite their odd situation. “We’re going to get out of here, believe it.”
Cupping her own handful of salt, she paused stuffing the container back into her bag at her friend’s words. It would make sense to just sit tight and wait for morning. It was summer, so neither had school, and the night was warm enough there was no risk of them getting hypothermia. But Rey could also tell her friend wanted out of here as soon as possible; frankly, so did she.
“How about we keep going for a little bit? And if we don’t find an exit, find a room to spend the night in?” She offered at last.

Skylar was tough and barely anything scared her. At least until now. At that moment she felt more like a frightened child than the fearless ghost hunter she’d always thought herself to be. It was embarrassing. She clutched the salt in her hand and nodded as she put on her bravest face. She was sure it wasn’t all that convincing but she was trying for herself and for Rey. “We have to. This place can’t take us down.” Skylar wanted to believe that more than anything.
Getting trapped in the old building in the winter would have been far worse but it wasn’t any picnic in the middle of July either. It was humid and there was almost no air flow inside - it made the musty smell that much stronger. She felt sticky and dirty from damp air clinging to their skin to cause unwanted perspiration. It sucked but complaining about it would just make it that much more unbearable. At this point they had to just focus all their energy into escaping.
“Sounds like a plan. Hopefully one with a window that might let in at least a little bit of a breeze.” Walking along beside Rey she had a new sense of determination to get out of this hell. “How long do you think we’ve been stuck in here? It feels like time has just stopped.” The place did have a way of making time feel like it was standing still.

Brooke would be angry at Silver if she did anything stupid after she was gone. She had a full life ahead of her - even if it wasn’t with her - and she wanted her to live it. She knew that it would hurt but in time the other woman would be happy again. Brooke wanted that for her and she’d make sure that was known. “None of this is your fault.” None of it was hers either - it was just an unfair hand that she’d been dealt in life. She’d been unlucky from the moment she was born. “Don’t talk crazy like that. You know it would never work. They’d find me and I’d have the same fate. You’d be locked up too.” This was something that she could not allow. Not for just a short amount of borrowed time that would result in the loss of Silver’s freedom at the end. “No one can take me away from you. At least not in the ways that matter.” Inside Brooke was freaking out but she was forcing herself to be as calm as she possibly could. She was the one dying yet Silver needed her strength now more than ever. “You won’t do anything that will risk your life or your freedom. Not while I’m here and not when I’m gone. Promise me that.” The tone of her voice and the look in her own red rimmed eyes showed just how serious she was about this. It was non-negotiable. “I’d be very upset with you.”
She wanted to have hope when Silver told her that Donna was still working on it. But she couldn’t. What was the point in false hope? It always fell through and it would all end the same. Brooke had to try for Silver. “She won’t give up easily. At least not without a fight.” Donna had been working tirelessly on this since shortly after Brooke’s sentencing five years prior. “I believe in her and you. But just know that if it doesn’t happen, I don’t blame you.” As Silver held her for what would probably be the last time, she tried to think about nothing but the moment they were in. “Shh…” Her fingers trailed through blonde hair. “Don’t think about any of that now. We have to make the most of the time we have right now. Let’s live only in the moment.” She’d lived her whole life wanting to feel truly alive and she never really had - not until right there in that jail cell in the arms of the love of her life. It was a terrifying yet beautiful feeling. Cliché or not she felt the same and those words brought a genuine smile to her face. “I feel exactly the same. Just hold on to that feeling because I know I will.” For the rest of her time there and probably even into the after life if there was one.
The kiss was returned with more passion than Brooke had ever shared in her entire life. It felt like her first kiss. And it might as well be because it was the only one that mattered. She knew she should argue with Silver - stop her - but she couldn’t. Brooke not only wanted her - she needed her. Once those sweet, soft lips were on her neck any rational thought was out the window. Marks were the least of her concern and she doubted anyone else would notice either. Soft moans of pleasure and desire were released as she encouraged her lover on. “I want you...please take me.” There was still a need to stay quiet and she was trying no matter how hard that was. “Make love to me.” Never had she said those words to a single soul until now.

“If you were in a witness protection program, what would be your new name and where would you go?” Brooke asked the fellow camp counselor - the only one that would speak to her and didn’t make fun of her. Most of the rest thought she was crazy. “Because I kind of think I’m going to end up in one of those if I get back to LA.” No one had caught Ramirez as of yet and it things were looking bleak. She knew that he was out there and he was looking for her. She believed him when he said he would kill her. More than anything She was worried sick about going back. She was thinking about just abandoning everything there - her apartment, college, all of it - and just disappearing. It wasn’t like Brooke Thompson had much of a life - no family, no friends - she could blend in and start over anywhere. The only thing she hated was losing all that she’d worked towards in school - all of her hopes and dream gone because of a serial killer.
