KZ Tandingan in 歌手(Singer) 2018
The news that KZ Tandingan won first place in last week’s episode of 歌手(Singer) spread like wildfire in Pinoy social networking community. Several video clips of the her performance in the popular Chinese reality singing contest were uploaded to Youtube, each garnering a large number of views. News articles of her feat are even quite sensationalized.
Just for fun, I’m going to make a forecast of how she will fare for the rest of the show. I think her first place win in the last episode was partly a newcomer’s advantage. It is a pattern I observed that the audience tend to vote favorably for a challenger because of novelty. Add to this fact that she is foreign to the Chinese audience.
That said, having two foreigners, the other one being Jessie J in the contestant lineup is probably not going to work for long for the audience. Between KZ Tandingan and Jessie J, the audience will most likely vote for the latter.
I’m not discounting KZ Tandingan’s skills, and I’m no singing/music critique, but my prediction is that she will fall from the top in the episodes to come. It will be tough for her to remain in the lineup for the rest of the season.
