“ of course that’s my name! ” ( wes snapped. he had hopped, skipped, and jumped from confused to frustrated to something bordering on scared at this point. )

( everything was wrong, from the crappy motel room to the version of dean smith looking at him like he couldn’t decide whether to slug him or drop to his knees and start pleading with him to call himself sammy. he hadn’t gone by sam, let alone sammy, since middle school.

( and his clothes. something was wrong with them. they were wrinkled and smelled weird, like dirt and sweat, and he really could not see himself wearing something this thrift-store ugly by choice. the back of his t-shirt kept coming untucked too, and it was driving him nuts. )

( nuts. actually smith seemed fucking nuts, and wes wasn’t entirely sure he hadn’t been kidnapped and maybe drugged by a guy in the middle of a psychotic break. maybe he should tread more cautiously. )

( he reached out a careful hand. ) “ look, uh. maybe we should sit down and talk this over or something. ” ( what were you supposed to do for someone in this kind of situation? god, what if wes had to call the police? that would suck ass. )

( he wasn’t normally very self-conscious about his height but you know, on occasion, things like this could get, uh, awkward. that, and he was awkward. at least he was aware of being awkward. that was a start. even if he was awkward about his awkward. )

( okay, he was thinking too much. ) “ uh, you okay? ” ( he reached a hand down to help her up. )
