What was it like, losing something you never had in the first place?
Due to circumstances, you had grown up beside Sylus.
Your father had been a skilled technician who he had chosen to partner with, back then green and building the foundations of his future crime empire.
And in you, he had gained something he had never had before - a friend.
He had pretended to be above all the normal teenage recklessness, but humoured your company all the same. Sparring, driving your bikes until the sun came up, drinking for the first times.
You had fallen, wishing for him to steal your first kiss, flushed and under the influence. Staring deep into his eyes and leaning closer, and closer.
But he had politely swerved your attempt, and softly held you against his chest instead.
”I know what you desire,” He’d whispered, softly stroking your hair,
”But I can’t be that for you.”
You still remembered the hot tears threatening to spill that you’d fought to keep down that night, disappointment a bitter taste in your mouth as you heart had sunk down to your stomach.
So, you would’ve been lying to yourself if you’d said you didn’t see the day coming, even if you secretly hoped it never would.
The day when he came back to the base with her.
The way he simply looked at her, like nothing else in the world mattered anymore.
His entire existence suddenly revolving around something - no, someone - else as if he had never stood alone to begin with.
So, when you finally decided you couldn’t do it anymore, everything in your life reminding you of them together, you couldn’t even bring yourself to bid farewell to him.
What good would it be, anyway? You’d only cause yourself worse heartbreak when he couldn’t cast you another look, too enamored of her beauty by his side.
So, when you disappeared into the shadows, leaving all the hurt behind in search of something new, you were completely oblivious to the crimson eyes following you go, devastated they couldn’t better protect you from the truth they had always known.
Someone arranges a Lumiere look-alike competition and you manage to persuade Xavier to attend, but then he doesn’t win and you can’t hold in your giggles at his disbelief.

“okay i found his instagram, he seems normal? he has a sister so that’s a green flag right?” the light from your FaceTime call on your laptop is the only thing lighting up your bedroom.
your friends voice comes through the speaker, “yes! it seems like he has good friendships too and doesn’t brag about the colonel stuff either so that’s good,” she adds on. you nod, both of you continuing to dig deeper into caleb’s life.
you liked caleb, he seemed like a great guy! he was kind, respectful, funny and really fucking hot. there had to be a catch, right?
only a couple clicks later and you’d managed to find his address.
“dude, i think i just found his address,” you laugh, hand covering your mouth.
a ding caused your eyes to flicker to the top of your phone
caleb :P : hey what are you up to? i just got home im so tired :((
“he just texted me right now, said he just got home,” the heat rushes to your cheeks immediately as you text back, smiling when he responds only seconds later.
“helloooo im still on the call y’know,” your friend brings you back to reality. you giggle, apologizing before focusing at the task on hand once more. “what’s his address? send it, let’s see what kind of neighborhood he lives in,” your friend wiggles her brows at you and you immediately screenshot the house and send a link over.
your fingers move quicker than your eyes, too used to her contact being the first to pop up on the share button. you’d forgotten how often you’d been sending things to caleb.
“did you get it?” you ask, already scrolling down the street of his house in skyhaven.
“no? you haven’t sent me anything yet,” she replies easily. the color drains from your face as you open your message app.

“oh my god, I’m so fucked dude,” your eyes widen, heart falling through your ass as the one word you now dreaded the most appeared in conversation. read.
“why what happened?”
“I sent him his own address. I’ve never once been over.” the mortification is obvious in your face, your friend immediately mirrors your expression.
“maybe you can unsend it?”
me: oh my god i swear this isn’t what it looks like
“he read it- fuck he’s typing oh my god I’m so fucked it’s so over for me, I’m so fucking—”

“holy fuck,” you mumbled, heart racing as you read his text over for the nth time, your friend shrieks over the phone. okay maybe you’re not completely done for.
caleb sits in bed, smiling at his screen.
you’d finally taken the bait, followed the trail he’d left of himself online. pretty posed pictures, a perfectly curated account. everything you liked and everything you wanted. he put just enough information for you to find everything you’d wanted if you dug juuust a bit, if you were like him. and now he knows you were like him.
caleb is relieved, shutting the live feed off from the camera he’d installed in your bedroom. you’ll be over at his tomorrow, he’ll make sure of it.

i think fem!zayne would have a cunty bob, maybe longer towards the front. his default black shirt and pants outfit would i think translate to a tucked in shirt, pencil skirt, sheer black stockings and pumps (garter belts...). nude makeup! very smart wear. i imagine she would look like a mayor, i have regina mills from once upon a time in mind when i think about fem zayne
fem!caleb would be a ponytail girl who favors sporty-wear. colonel version of her, though, would have the tightest bun ever -- though i reckon she also had that bun when she would be in the the daa pilot uniform! not traditionally butch, but with masc traits. i can see her being a tomboy in her childhood because of the older sisterly role. most flat-chested of the bunch in my vision but muscles for days
fem!rafayel would have the longest hair of the bunch, and she would be VERY femme. "girly girl". she would be a flowy dress type of girl, maybe. and i have this specific version of her in a satiny slip dress with one strap hanging off her shoulder. when painting her hair would be in the most useless low messy bun ever, strands would hang off over her face and everything. oversized dress shirts directly worn over her bra when she's lazing around at home, front perhaps open, perhaps not. pretty nails! minimal makeup, but always with a glittery and shiny look. glossy lips!
fem!sylus, interestingly, would be also femme i think but with masc expressions, just with a different aesthetic than rafayel. heavily stylized long hair, hanging over one shoulder. she would rock suits and stilettos and would have the dark glam makeup and bold lipstick look. tits always in display one way or another, either low cut shirt or corset-looks. (see: dahlia from the visual novel speakeasy). i think she accessorizes the most out of everyone, jewelry would be a huge part of her look
fem!valko is butch in the way vi from arcane is butch... meaning debates if she'd even be considered one, some would say she's soft butch or futch. long pixie cut, and you can see that she has some undercut (or maybe the ellie williams half-updo special, i couldnt decide). i could see her with tattoo sleeves and everything. her chairwoman suits look is very different from sylus, in the way that it's male-presenting (vests and ties). i don't have her pinned down all that well compared to others, but roughly, maybe everyday wear has her dressing like a hot topic frequenter who also happens to be a lab assistant. she also looks like a bodybuilder.
fem!xavier gave me the most trouble when i was thinking about her hair. i thought that her overall style would translate well into a cozy, clean, beige and soft feminine look with hoodies sweaters and skirts (i dont know why but i love skirts for fem xavier, and fuzzy socks!) -- but the hair didn't quite feel as translate-able, if that makes sense. but then i realized! a braid! like, big and a little loose type. and it would also be ideal when she's in fight-mode. perhaps lumiere (and also princess xavier) has a more royal hairstyle, like a braided crown (and, again, the braid motif connecting them, with one being VERY tight and a crown and the other loose)! she also gives off the ariana grande sleeves over hands energy LMAO
