And This Is Why You Shouldn’t Get Sick In America
Many believe that the US healthcare system is the best in the world. Not so according to the World Health Organization’s ranking of the world’s health systems. The US doesn’t even rank in the top 25. It ranks 37th and is the most expensive in the world. I would argue that even if we had the best healthcare system in the world, what good is it, if no one can afford to access it.
Most companies are buying 60/40-policys for their employees these days, but even if you are lucky enough to have good insurance with 80/20-policy coverage, that 20 percent your responsible for can drive you right into bankruptcy as easily as the 60-40 policy given the cost of healthcare.
Insurance cost have been going up dramatically in the last two decades, long before the new Affordable Healthcare Act has taken affect, in some cases as much as 35% per year.
But have you noticed the latest trick the insurance companies have roll out?
Yes, Higher Deductible… most averaging $5,000 per year, per person, but I have seen some as high as $10,000 per year. For those of you that are wondering, this tactic is specifically designed too stop you from using your insurance. It reduces the insurance companies out of pocket liability by shift costs onto consumers, especially those dealing with chronic illness such as diabetes and arthritis. Consequently, because consumers can’t afford the deductible they will avoid necessary care to save money.
Although insurance companies are a problem, the real crook is the healthcare system it self. A corrupt and bloated system desperately in need of reform!
OKAY SO I KNEW THAT TECHNICALLY IN AMERICA THAT YOU PAY FOR HEALTHCARE BUT LIKE THE IDEA IS SO BIZARRE TO ME THAT I’D NEVER CONSIDERED THAT YOU’D GET… A BILL?????? FOR BEING…. ILL?????????? I LITERALLY DON’T
how can anaesthetic cost that much??
how is this legal??
WHAT? And I thought having to pay £7 ($11.55) for stronger prescription allergy meds instead of £4 ($6.60) for the less effective store-brand ones was ridiculous.
You have to pay for the ambulance!?
OK, I’m shocked by the prices, but all of the people from other countries who are just shocked that there ARE prices just make me so so sad.
This is so screwed up.
So I know someone who moved from America to Australia with a young daughter (she would have been a less than two years old at least I think). One night their daughter was sick and they didn’t know what to do so they were like ‘ok, I’ll just have to take her to hospital’ keeping in mind when they moved here they had no steady income and we’re basically starting life from scratch. They got their daughter treated and she was fine. At the end of it they braced themselves and handed over their credit card, dreading the bill they were about to get.
The nurse looked at them with such confusion and said ‘you don’t have to pay for anything.’
And they was completely baffled by the concept of any sort of health care that could come at no charge.
That highlighted the difference to me. And this only emphasises it.
It’s appalling people have to pay for stuff like this. And at such a cost. America is not third world. It needs to be sorted.
The other thing about the American healthcare system is that not only do they charge you an outrageous amount, but your money is the first priority, not making sure you’re okay. A little over a year ago I accidentally ate a couple bites of peanut butter cookie dough and had to go to the ER. They wouldn’t help me until I’d given them all my insurance information and gotten the payment sorted out. Meanwhile, my throat was closing up.
… Healthcare should be a basic human right ffs. Wtf America. I’m very sorry for all the people that are treated like this by their own country.
If you get an outrageous medical bill, check over your bill to make sure they didn’t “accidentally” charge you for a service you didn’t actually get. Question everything and make sure the hospital isn’t scamming you.
I went to the doctor to get bloodwork done and got charged $991.52 and then when I went to the emergency room because I was throwing up blood, that cost me a lot. My total medical bill is over $1200 for those two things alone and that doesn’t count in my PCOS things. And keep in mind that if you have PCOS, you have to get bloodwork done regularly. I’m 20 and I’m already in debt. I can’t even afford a pair of pants that fit properly because everywhere I apply for a job, they won’t hire me because I haven’t gone to college (which is even more expensive). I can’t even afford to take a damn GED test to get a high school equivalency diploma. My mom and stepdad have jobs, thank god, but they’re working themselves to the bone as it is to keep a roof over our head and some amenities going while still paying for my stepfather’s diabetes supplies/meds, his medical bills (he has neuropathy in his feet and has had to get several ties and part of his foot removed). My fiancé has mental health issues in addition to his physical health issues (Sherman’s kyphosis, ulcerative colitis, etc) and his $750 a month SSI check isn’t cutting the almost monthly trips to the ER because he often vomits up a ton of blood. America sucks balls in the economic department, guys, ESPECIALLY when you talk about medical treatment.
tedwardburks4 one of the big reasons I wanna move to Italy.
ashes-before-flame yeah! Let's go to Italy. I don't like the american health care system at all -_-
i see all these posts around here that are like “date someone who…” and all that’s fine and good but like i feel like they focus on cutesy stuff and leave some really important stuff out. so like yes, date someone who you can watch netflix with and pet dogs with and make waffles with but also
date someone who will call you out on your shit
date someone who thinks the sun shines out of your ass, but also knows you’re not perfect and will offer the support you need to change and grow
date someone who doesn’t passively accept your flaws, but recognizes them and helps you deal with them
date someone who you can disagree with but still love and care for all the same
date someone who can understand where you’re coming from and help you through your rough times
date someone who won’t enable your negative, self-destructive habits and tendencies
date someone who doesn’t think “you’re perfect don’t ever change” but rather “i love you and will help and support you in whatever changes you need to make”
date someone who sees you not as a perfect lover but as a human being and who wants to be with you even though they can see all your faults
basically date someone who’s going to be with you, not just worship you. and more importantly, be this person for your SO. do not put them on a pedestal and call it love.
