Is it okay that you can copy poses? I just noticed a lot of your older works were copied off of Phantomcat/Shinymega-Gengar. Which isn't BAD, since it's your own thing/used for practice, but did you have to ask permission or anything?

yeah I noticed that too. Not in "a lot" of my older works, but I recall one instance, a few 8 years after I'd drawn this piece, where I realized a character pose looked near identical to Shiny's art.

your message assumes that I copied or referenced these poses intentionally, but that’s not the case. I never had her art open to copy by eye ("eyeballing"? Had to google this); nor did I ever use them to practice while I was drawing.

It just so happened that I loved - and still love - Shiny's art, and she became a major influence and source of inspiration when I was learning digital art! So her art style rubbed off on my own, and I got her artwork commited to memory. I still greatly admire Shiny as an artist and as a person, even though I'm too much of an anxious weirdo who can't chat normally with friends anymore.

Copying, tracing or referencing poses is common among aspiring artists who are still learning the ropes, and yes, asking the original artist for permission and giving them credit is important in such cases. But it’s also important to exercise understanding and kindness when someone is unaware of the issues involved, or when the results were completely unintended.
