during marshal training last year they emphasized over and over again how dangerous it can be for a marshal to touch an f1 car that's "live" aka might have electricity going through it. these buttons on an f1 car aren't an inconvenience that teams have to add just bc the FIA said so. they're there for a reason. the reason is that intervention marshals can safely switch the car off and then put it in neutral to move it. we literally cannot touch a car if it's "live" or if we don't know its status. and even then you've got to wear heavy rubber gloves while handling f1 cars specifically BECAUSE of the risk of electrocution.

for teams to tape over these buttons for "aerodynamic purposes" or whatever bullshit is dangerous as fuck actually. the document mentions that marshals can't remove the tape without a tool which ofc is added risk and more wasted time. not to mention the insane effort of trying to manipulate those tools with those fucking rubber gloves (that we are not allowed to touch a car without). and considering how we've had several incidents this weekend already so far (and we haven't even got to quali yet) it's kind of batshit to make it even harder for marshals to do their job. and tbh "aerodynamics" sounds like a bullshit excuse and the team admitted it'll make marshals' job harder so like... why did you do it then?

most marshals work on a volunteer basis. we either don't get paid or get paid a very small amount of money. we do it for the love of the sport. we do NOT do it so that teams can risk our wellbeing with these stupid ass decisions for these stupid ass reasons. mclaren should've been SUSPENDED for this imo bc that's the only thing that'll make these teams listen. these fines are a slap on the wrist for them. they don't give a fuck. like literally we were told several times we need to look out for ourselves and each other because FIA and the teams won't do it. they already make intervention marshals go out on live tracks because they hate red flagging no matter how warranted it is. this bullshit is just more endangerment for no good reason. fucking hell.
