so all my twrp fics are currently hidden while i decide what goes public again and i want to rewrite one of them and did not realize the sequel i started and never posted is 7k šµāš«
I wanted to ask if you're still rewriting soft focus, you're like the only acelaw shipper and you're writing is incredible.
hi! i haven't worked on it in a long time but it's definitely still something i want to do, my attention just keeps getting caught up by other projects. i don't consider it abandoned or discontinued even if it's been A While š
and i appreciate the kind words! it looks like there's definitely more acelaw shippers out there though, i just checked the ao3 tag and there's even another acelaw week that just wrapped up š it was such a tiny little community in 2020-21 and i hadn't checked in on the tags in a while but i'm happy to see people are still appreciating our boys š„
Our original discord event returns today! The Fic That Haunts You is a 3-month event challenging us to make progress on fics we think about a lot but, for some reason, never work on. We'll attempt to get past this by identifying exactly what's getting in our way & making plans to get past it.
As of this post, 66 people have declared their TFTHY and set a goal, almost double the size of the original 2021 event!
TFTHY is hosted entirely on discord, allowing us to form a supportive community. Being surrounded (even digitally) by people working toward a similar goal can help with motivation! And because our discord is 18+, so is this event.

Rei miscalculated.
After extensive testing, after plenty of trial and error, he thought heād figured out the exact amount of sleep he needed to function without wasting too much time. But his numbers must have been off somewhere, because he was out gathering herbs by the lake when a wave of exhaustion hit him⦠followed by a sharp pain in his sides.
He knew it was a seizure as soon as it started, but there was absolutely nothing he could do about it in the moment; he definitely would have drowned if he was in deeper waters. But luckily, he wakes up sitting in water thatās only a few inches deep, his back propped up against some rocks⦠less luckily, he must have hit those rocks on his way down, because the visible parts of his body are badly bruised.
He pushes himself to sit up, hissing as pain radiates through his forearm. One look at it immediately tells him something is very wrong, but he knows he absolutely does not have enough essence to do anything about it.
Regretfully, he needs help.
The forest doctor is kind, quick with his work, and he never asks too many questions. Rei has only visited him a few times, exclusively to compare research notes, never for treatment. But he supposes thereās a first time for everything, and going to see him seems like a much better idea than trying to fix it himself with only one usable hand. So he constructs a crude splint out of the coat he was wearing before he takes the short walk to the doctorās house.
Only itās not the forest doctor this time; the old mute is standing in the doorway with a white coat on. Rei stares up at him for a few seconds before he promptly turns around and starts walking away.
āWait.ā
Quincy grabs Reiās uninjured arm, stopping him in his tracks.
āYouāre hurt.ā
āYes,ā Rei speaks through his teeth as he turns to face Quincy again. āWhereās the doctor?ā
āHeās out.ā Quincy lets Reiās arm go and steps further into the house. āIām here. Come in.ā
At first, Rei just continues to stare at Quincy⦠but eventually, somewhat reluctantly, he makes his way inside. Quincy walks him over to an exam table and offers him a towel to dry off, and Rei does just a little more staring before he hops up on to it.
āWhat happened?ā Quincy asks, turning his back to Rei again. Heās washing his hands, donning a pair of gloves, and Rei canāt help but wonder how long this is going to take.
āI fell,ā he answers simply. āI think my armās broken.ā
Quincy faces Rei again, looking him up and down. āThatās it?ā
āThatās it,ā Rei answers. He knows he looks badā dirty, wet, and bruisedā but heād really just like to focus on the main problem at hand here. āCan you fix it?ā
āOf course.ā
Quincy steps closer, and Rei reaches up to untie his makeshift sling, but stops in his tracks when he sees Quincy pick up the stethoscope from around his neck.
āWhat are you doing?ā
Quincyās expression is blank as he puts the earpieces into his ears. āExam.ā
āMy armās broken,ā Rei says, āYou know whatās wrong.ā
āYou came here for help.ā Quincy proceeds anyway, resting one hand on Reiās shoulder while the other presses the stethoscope against Reiās chest. āIām helping.ā
Rei opens his mouth to replyā
āStop talking.ā
āand out comes a huff instead.
He stays still and quiet as Quincy listens to his chest, only making a sound when Quincy asks him to take deep breaths. As the minutes pass by, the ache really starts to set in⦠itās not just his arm. His whole body hurts, which should have been obvious based on the bruising, but Rei wasnāt thinking too hard about it before.
Quincy hangs the stethoscope around his neck before his hands settle on Reiās jaw. Rei only raises an eyebrow as Quincy studies his face, moving his head this way and that. Itās gentle, surprisingly gentle for a brute like Quincy, but it doesnāt do much to distract Rei from the pain.
Finally, Quincy addresses the arm. He removes unties the sling ever so carefully, his hand still supporting Reiās arm as he starts examining it. He keeps his movements slow, he doesnāt poke or prodā until he does, and Rei flinches in protest.
āOw.ā
āSorry.ā
Quincy sets Reiās arm down on his lap when heās done, and turns to one of his supply cabinets.
āSo⦠whatās up?ā Rei asks.
āItās broken.ā
āIām aware.ā Rei rolls his eyes. āBut what are you going to do about it, doctor?ā
āIāve got a salve. Some essence. And I can get you a real sling.ā
Itās simple enough. Quincy has to touch his broken arm quite a bit to get the salve on, but heās still gentle about it, so it doesnāt hurt as much as it might have otherwise. Rei can tell heās using essence in the process, tooā he knows the feeling of it all too well.
Quincy constructs the sling from a piece of fabric, thicker and more durable than Reiās jacket. Itās more comfortable, too, tied properly around him and keeping his injured arm firmly in place.
āThere,ā Quincy says once heās done, stepping away to tidy up the cabinets heād been rummaging through earlier. āIt should heal soon. Just donāt use it for a couple days.ā
āGreat.ā Rei slides off the exam table, more than ready to get out of there⦠and then his vision darkens, and he vaguely registers the feeling of arms around him before he passes out completely.
Later, he wakes up on a bed in the doctorās house⦠alone. He doesnāt sense Quincy nearby at all, but thereās a clear sign of his presence left over: next to the bag Rei had been carrying, left on the bedside table, thereās an approximation of a map drawn on a piece of parchment. Beneath the drawing is, unmistakably, Quincyās handwriting:
Hiya! This July, I and 279 other people will be playing a fanworks exchange game called Battleships! While sign-ups are closed, prompts are still open and will be throughout the game (which starts on July 12 and will probably go until near the end of the month). Battleships is basically played like the Battleships board game, but to call squares, you have to make fanworks first, and each fanwork has to be a gift for someone's prompt - so having prompts to work with is a super important part of the game. And you might get a fic, art, or podfic in response to your prompt!
You can go to the prompt form here to get started! If you want more instructions on filling it out, I've included an explanation below.
How to leave a prompt:
The full prompting rules are here, but here's a simplified version: First of all, you need an AO3 account, and your account needs to be set to receive gifts, or else nobody can give you a response to a prompt! Receiving gifts is disabled by default for newer accounts. Go to your preferences (you can find it from your dashboard or by selecting 'Hi, [your username]') and check that the 'Allow anyone to gift me works' setting at the bottom is checked.
At the prompt form, if you want to add more than one prompt, you can click the 'add another request?' button at the bottom to add up to 50. You can edit the prompts afterward (although you shouldn't make big changes mid-game) or remove them or add more whenever you want.
The fandom has to be one that has already been nominated by someone for the game - you can search for fandoms by typing in the box and clicking if you fandom shows up, but the search boxes can be a little glitchy, so you can also check the set of nominated fandoms (alphabetical here, or by medium here).
Then you select whether you want to ask for fic, art, and/or podfic.
The relationships box is used for both relationships and single characters (and sometimes objects, places, or ideas like worldbuilding). A tag like 1: Character means you are asking for a work centered on that character; this can be filled with a gen work, or a work with any relationship featuring the character, unless you add relationships or something like 'no romantic relationships' to your do not want list (see below). A tag like Character/Character means who are asking for work with a romantic and/or sexual relationship between the characters. A tag like Character & Character means you are asking for a work with a platonic relationship between the characters. Relationships also have to already be nominated; you can search with the box, but this one is also a bit glitchy sometimes, so you can also look for your fandom in the big list of nominated fandoms and relationships and click the arrow next to it to see what has already been nominated.
The additional tags and the optional tags field are basically the same thing, but the additional tags box has a limit of 20, and any after that go in the optional tags box. You have to request at least one additional tag from the list of additional tags, but you can request as many as you want. Be warned that the additional tags box can search the Battleship tags, but if you want to include more in the optional tags box, you have to copy and paste from the tag list. (Putting anything in either tags box except the tags from the Battleship tags list will get your prompt deleted by the mods!) If you want to add a lot of tags, there's a tickybox sheet that can help.
A fill for a prompt has to contain at least one relationship (or character) you requested and at least one additional tag you requested in a medium you requested. You can make more than one prompt for the same fandom if you want to ask for different relationships in different mediums or different additional tags for different relationships.
In the optional details box, you need to include at least a little bit of info for a potential creator. You can write about what you like in the prompted medium in general or any ideas for more specific prompts you have, like tropes, scenes, or AUs. You also need to either clearly list your do not wants (DNWs) or say that you don't have any. DNWs are things that you don't want to receive for any reason (you don't need to explain why), and creators are not allowed to include them when fulfilling a prompt. They should be stated neutrally, and you should try to make them clear and easy to understand. (For example: 'DNW: explicit sex, A/B' is good, while 'DNW: gross stuff' doesn't clearly state what it encompasses, and 'DNW that disgusting ship A/B' is not neutral.)
The archive warnings box allows you to indicate that you are interested in receiving works with those archive warnings. Not selecting them does not mean a fill can't include them (unless you add them to your DNWs) and selecting them doesn't mean that a fill must include them (unless you say 'DNW No Archive Warnings Apply').
Don't check 'Semi-anonymous Prompt?'. Battleship uses the gift functionality of AO3, so a creator can't gift a prompt fill to an unknown person.
When you're ready, click the 'submit' button! And hopefully someone will make something for your prompt š
