How to Understand Astrological Placements
It is a simple three-step process.
STEP 1:Â Know the difference between Planets, Signs and Houses.
Planets are the sources of energies that influence our lives. For example, Jupiter is the source of abundance, Venus is the source of beauty, and Mercury is the source of intelligence.
Signs are the categories of our personalities. To illustrate, Cancer is a nurturing personality, Libra is a harmonious personality, and Pisces is an intuitive personality.
Houses are the areas of our lives. Such as, the Second House is the area of our money, the Sixth House is the area of our health, and the Seventh House is the area of our partnerships.
STEP 2:Â Know what each Planet, Sign and House represents.
THE PLANETS IN A NUTSHELL
Sun â Source of your stamina
Moon â Source of your instincts
Mercury â Source of your intelligence
Venus â Source of your beauty
Mars â Source of your aggression
Jupiter â Source of your abundance
Saturn â Source of your ambitions
Uranus â Source of your eccentricity
Neptune â Source of your intuition
Pluto â Source of your power
THE POSITIVE AND THE NEGATIVE OF THE SIGNS
Aries â Driven and dominating personality
Taurus â Tenacious and stubborn personality
Gemini â Sociable and deceptive personality
Cancer â Nurturing and passive-aggressive personality
Leo â Brave and prideful personality
Virgo â Disciplined and critical personality
Libra â Harmonious and fickle personality
Scorpio â Passionate and vindictive personality
Sagittarius â Optimistic and tactless personality
Capricorn â Determined and greedy personality
Aquarius â Humanistic and emotionally detached personality
Pisces â Intuitive and escapist personality
THE ROOMS OF THE HOUSES
The First House of Self â Area of your self worth, your confidence, how you judge yourself, what you believe your purpose to be.
The Second House of Value â Area of your finances, the money that you earn, whatever you consider as your valuable possessions.
The Third House of Communication â Area of your contracts, the messages you receive, the conversations you have, how you express yourself.
The Fourth House of Home â Area of your actual home, the people you live with, whatever you define to be your foundation as a person.
The Fifth House of Pleasure â Area of your creative passions, your children, the things and places that give you comfort and happiness.
The Sixth House of Routine â Area of your daily life, your health and energy, your schedule at work, your projects and assignments.
The Seventh House of Relationships â Area of your romantic and sex life, your business partnerships, the one person you consider closest to you.
The Eighth House of Transformation â Area of your evolution as a person, what others find mysterious about you, rewards other people will give you.
The Ninth House of Philosophy â Area of your adventures, your beliefs, your learnings in terms of spirituality, what you wish to explore.
The Tenth House of Reputation â Area of your career, your place in the world, how you want other people to see you, your public image.
The Eleventh House of Community â Area of your close friends, your outer circle, the causes that you care about, where you stand in society.
The Twelfth House of Secrets â Area of your own secrets as well as truths that have been kept from you, your intuition, your deepest dreams.
STEP 3:Â Interpret them all together.
Now that you understand what each of them means, you should be able to interpret any placement simply by combining them.
Pluto in Scorpio in the Seventh House If Pluto is the source of power⊠Scorpio is a passionate and vindictive personality⊠and the Seventh House is the area of relationships, then:
A man with this placement has very powerful (Pluto) emotions for the people in his life (Seventh House). He is exceptionally kind and protective towards those he loves (Scorpio), but extremely hateful and dangerous towards those he considers his enemies (Scorpio).
Jupiter in Leo in the Fourth House If Jupiter is the source of abundance⊠Leo is a brave and prideful personality⊠and the Fourth House is the area of home, then:
A young girl with this placement could someday have a truly amazing family life (Fourth House). She could marry a wealthy man (Jupiter), and their beautiful, intelligent or talented children would be the source of her pride (Leo).
Neptune in Capricorn in the Ninth House If Neptune is the source of intuition⊠Capricorn is a determined and greedy personality⊠and the Ninth House is the area of philosophy, then:
Someone with this placement has the potential to become a cult leader. Spiritual dogma (Ninth House) will be very easy for them to create (Neptune). And their ambitions could push them to preach it to others (Capricorn).
All you need to memorize are the 10 Planets, the 12 Signs and the 12 Houses. Using that knowledge, you can easily assess anyoneâs personality and make reliable predictions about their destiny.
Blackberry, Apple, and Whisky Pie to celebrate the Autumn Equinox or Mabon
The Autumnal equinox is here! Itâs the day where light and darkness are equal, a perfect balance. We are now entering the dark part of the year. Itâs time to celebrate the second harvest sabbat. Personally itâs one of my favourite because we can see the shift in Nature. Summer is fading away but there is still lots of green leaves. The air is getting colder but the sun is still hot. I am now preparing my home for the winter to come. I decluttered all my closets and donated every thing I didnât needed anymore. There is still plenty of fruits to make jams and preserves as well
On this day of celebrations, I am giving you this amazing Apple Pie recipe. It requires a bit of work but it is totally worth it, I promise! Funny story, itâs the first time I am baking a pie, Iâve never had pies before, it not really custom where I grew up. I was curious so I decided toggle it a go. I had to do it 3 times with small adjustments every time and now I am really satisfied of the result, and now I am really convinced that it is one of my favourite fruit desserts!
Time
Preparation: 30 min the day before (the dough) + 1h30 (making the pie)
Cooking: 1h
Cooling down: 45min
Ingredients
Pie dough
If you want to just a single crust pire, youâll have to divide the quantities by 2.
330g all purpose flour
1 tsp salt
3tbsp sugar
230g butter (must be very cold) cut into 1cm cubes
120mL iced water approximately
Filling
4 apples peeled, cored and cut into thin strips
200g blackberries, lightly crushed
2tbsp whisky (I recommend a sweet one, not too smoky for a light flavour. I used Glenmorangie)
3tbsp light brown sugar
1tbsp grounded cinnamon
1tsp all spices
1/2tsp clove
1/2 tsp nutmeg
40g flour
3tbsp Salted Maple Caramel (I used this recipe here https://bromabakery.com/salted-maple-caramel-recipe/ ) If you donât want to do this recipe, any caramel spread will do.
1 egg beaten for the egg wash
Preparation
Pie dough
Make the day before
In a large bowl combine sugar, salt and flour
Add the butter. Mix to cover the butter cubes with flour (it keeps them cold longer). Rub butter into flour until it is the size of walnut halves.
Make a well in the center and add the water a few tablespoons at a time and mix lightly until the dough comes together (donât over do it)
Wrap the dough in plastic and let it rest in the fridge for the night. This step is really important because a very cold dough will be extra flaky!
Filling
In a large bowl, mix together apples, blackberries, whisky, sugar, cinnamon, all spices, clove, and nutmeg.
Let it rest during the next step.
Making the pie.
Pre heat your oven 190°C / 375°F
Lightly grease your pie pan with butter then dust it with flour (your pie will not stick to the pan in this case)
Divide the dough in 2 balls.
Put one ball back in the fridge
Roll out the other ball in a disk. It has to be large enough that it will recover your pan and drape over the edges of it. Gently fit the disk onto your pie plate by patting the edges of the pan.
With a fork make some holes in the dough
Filter your filling through a colander to separate as much as juice than you can. Now add the caramel, and the flour, mix well. The fruits have to be coated by the flour and the caramel.
Donât throw away the juice, it is delicious to drink with black tea
Pour the filling into the pie pan.
Let the pie rest in the fridge while you are doing the next step.
Decorating the pie
Roll out the second ball of dough, then cut thin strips about 1 cm wide.
Use them to create a lattice pattern on the top of your prepared filling.
You can make braids and lie them around the edges of the pie. You can also use cookie cutter to add fun shapes, let your creativity guide you!
There is tons of amazing inspirations on Pinterest and Instagram if you need it!
When your design is done, brush the pie with the egg wash.
Bake for an hour at 190°C / 375°F.
IMPORTANT! Check the pie regularly and if it becomes too brown, cover it with an aluminum foil. I usually have to do it after 35-40 min of baking.

Why your spells donât work
You set your intention. You had all the correct correspondences. You even timed your spell with the appropriate moon phase. And yet â no results. What gives?
Failed spells happen to the best of us, and for a variety of reasons. But a spell gone wrong doesnât necessarily mean that magic isnât real or that youâre bad at witchcraft. Magic is complicated, and there are a lot of reasons it might not behave the way you want it to. Here are some of the most common causes of ineffective spells:
1. Lack of real-world follow through
Magic is meant to be used as a tool to supplement your mundane efforts â not as a substitute for them. How can you expect your job hunting spell to bring in results if you arenât applying for jobs?
Magic does not exist in a vacuum, and it canât make something out of nothing. If a spell doesnât bring you the desired result, make sure that your non-magical actions are aligned with what you are trying to manifest.
2. What youâre trying to manifest isnât a realistic possibility
Wait, what? Isnât magic supposed to be, well⊠magic? Shouldnât you be able to ask for whatever you want and get it? Yes and no.
Magic is simply a way of directing energy. Magic canât defy the natural laws of the universe. It canât make something happen unless it was already a potential possibility.
If your intention is unrealistic for where you are right now, try splitting it up into a multi-step process. No spell is going to make you a billionaire overnight, but magic could help you get hired at a better paying job⊠and then get promoted⊠and then get offered a profitable side gig⊠etc. Starting small and working your way up is always going to produce stronger results, because you laid the foundation first.
3. Your intention was either too vague or too specific
Whether you use written petitions or spoken incantations, clearly stating your intention is an important part (maybe THE most important part) of any spell or ritual. A good intention is specific enough to get you the results you want, but open enough to let those results manifest naturally.
Letâs say you do a money spell, and your intention for the spell is simply, âI have more money.â If you find a penny on the ground the next day and pick it up, technically that is more money than you had before. A better alternative would be to use an intention like, âI have enough money to buy ___,â or âI have enough money for everything I need and want.â
Using an intention that is too specific creates the opposite problem. Letâs say you want to manifest a scholarship to a specific school. You do a candle spell with the intention, âI have been chosen for the John Smith Scholarship at Jane Doe University.â But maybe the John Smith scholarship had already been awarded by the time you did your spell. Maybe thereâs another scholarship at the same school that would be a better fit for you, or maybe youâre eligible for a grant that would make tuition more affordable. A better intention for your spell would be âI have enough financial aid to easily and affordably attend Jane Doe University.â
Magic always follows the path of least resistance, so you want to make sure that your intention is specific enough to give your magic a clear direction, but open enough to allow it some flexibility.
4. Lack of focus/concentration
We all know the struggle. Youâve been planning this ritual forever, and itâs finally the full moon, but youâve got a really full schedule today. If you hurry, you can probably squeeze it into the thirty minute window between school and work, right?
If you say a few quick words and burn some incense before you head out the door in the morning, that totally counts as a spell, right?
Not so much. Rushed, lazy, and/or half-assed spells rarely, if ever, work. Spells revolve around the raising and direction of energy, and that requires two things: a clear intention (see above) and intense focus on that intention. If you donât have the time/energy/mental capacity to focus, itâs best to take a break, have a self care day, and come back to your spell some other time.
5. Youâre subconsciously blocking your own results OR you did a spell for someone else who isnât open to it
I decided to lump these two together, because theyâre different variations of the same issue.
Whenever you are doing magic on yourself, itâs important that your mindset is aligned with your intentions. You can do love spells all day long, but if deep down you donât believe that youâre worthy of love, that belief is going to block your spells from working. This is why mindfulness, psychology, and self care are all such important parts of a successful witchcraft practice. Itâs also why I recommend doing the mental work before you sit down to ritual.
If you did a spell on yourself, or are trying to manifest something for yourself, and it just isnât working, I highly recommend setting some time aside for journaling and meditation and asking yourself 1.) if this is really what you want, and 2.) if you truly believe that you can have it.
The whole mindset thing gets even more tricky when youâre doing magic on behalf of another person, because their energy is also at work in the situation and could be at odds with yours. For example, if you do a spell to help a friend land a job, but that friend believes that theyâre totally underqualified and could never get it, they probably wonât get the job even if you did everything ârightâ in your spell.
This should go without saying, but it is extremely unethical to use magic to mess around in someone elseâs head. Even if you think you know whatâs best for them, they need to be open to it. If someone is blocking the spells you do on their behalf, all you can do is try to be supportive and find other ways to help them out.
Other (Rare) Reasons for Failed Spells
If a spell goes wrong, it will almost always be for one of the above reasons. But maybe you did everything ârightâ â you did the mental work first, had a strong, realistic intention, put lots of focus into your spell, and followed through in real life â and you still arenât seeing results. There are a couple of other things that could be blocking your spells, but theyâre very uncommon so Iâm not going to talk about them in as much detail. These may be things you want to look into if you really, genuinely canât think of any other cause.
Itâs possible that another witch has done magic that cancels out or blocks yours. This is not common, and it does NOT mean that someone has cursed you. It could be as simple as two witches unknowingly casting spells with opposite intentions, which end up cancelling each other out. (For example, maybe two different people both cast a spell to get the same job. Obviously, they canât both get that job.) This is why itâs never a bad idea to incorporate a protective element into your spells to block outside interference.
There is a very, very remote possibility that someone has placed a curse on you specifically to block your magic. However â and I cannot stress this enough â this is VERY uncommon. If you were cursed you would know it, or at least know that something was very wrong in your life. If you feel like you have been cursed or hexed, I recommend looking into uncrossing spells, which are specifically designed to undo negative magic.
Itâs also possible that a higher power is intervening. This doesnât necessarily have to be a deity, although it certainly could be. Most witches believe in some form of fate or destiny, and itâs possible that your spell didnât work because what you asked for is not in alignment with your destiny. In these situations, really the only thing you can do is surrender to the bigger picture.

Hel Mary - 07/01/20
âHel Maryâ is the title of my personal upcycled art projects in which I thrift abandoned Mother Mary statues and give them new life with paint & love. My newest addition is adorned with clear and smoky quartz points, sustainably foraged & cleaned animal bones and a labradorite cab in her hand.
Hel is the Norse deity of the underworld, said to have the appearance of being half alive. She looks after those who did not die on the battlefield.
