“Yeah, it’s right there next to Auriga,” he waved dismissively, unimpressed with the stars. He’d studied astronomy, they were nothing new to him. ”I called a cab. I’m gonna just head home. Sorry about…yellin’ at you, back there.” He watched car lights comet by, wondering which pair would be the one to pull in and pick him up.

“Can’t see them in this fog though. With all the lights around.” she said then pushed off from the wall. She pulled her hair into a pony tail and stretched. “Fine. Have a nice night.” she murmured and turned to walk down the darkened street. She turned down an alley and headed towards Harlem.

Tony watched her go, snapping out of his daze when the cab pulled up. He quickly gave the address to the driver and settled into the backseat, looking out the window and trying to catch a glimpse of stars.

((just to let you know i'm in an allergic fog and i worked a lot today and will work a lot tomorrow

tony takes a lot of energy to write so i won't be on him as much at least for tonight and tomorrow but maybe monday! and i have replies drafted, they'll be taken care of first thing

“You think I don’t do that?” he snapped abruptly, surprising even himself.

Lack of sleep would do that to a guy.

“You think I don’t do that every day of my life?” he asked again, his voice pitching up in his frustration. He was always in the public eye. His entire life was built on melting into crowds and pretending he had his shit together. Opening his mouth to say this he stopped, shaking his head instead. ”No, I’m just…I’m gonna just go.” He turned to the bartender. ”Keep the change.”

Somewhat clumsily, he stormed out of the building, breathing in deep and waiting for the cool night air to calm him down. He didn’t need to be here right now.

She didn’t speak and she didn’t chase him. She took three shots of vodka in quick succession and slowly stood up. “I know you think you can help everyone, Charlie, but you can’t.” the Bartender said and handed her another drink. She tipped her head back and finished it off. “I’m glad you stopped basically living in here but you’re a mess. You weight like, ninety pounds, you don’t sleep, and you drink more than a fish. Start fixing yourself before you try to fix others.”

She placed a bill on the table and headed out silently. Charlie was surprised he was still there. She tilted her head but didn’t say anything at first. She leaned against the wall and looked up at the sky. “I miss the stars. I used to come outside after my foster parents had done something horrible again and watch the stars.” she pointed up to a blank spot in the sky. “From this position at this time of night and year you should be able to see Perseus from here.”

Tony smiled automatically, feeling more and more like a fish out of water with every second. Truth be told, he’d rather be in his shop with his robots and his music, drowning out the outside world and tinkering until he passed out in the wee hours of the morning.

Instead, he ordered another Jack and Coke, looking around at the decor of the place absentmindedly and hoping to God he didn’t look as lost as he felt.

Charlie watched him for a moment and sighed. “You know, it helps to meet new people. It helps to just kind of melt into a crowd for a little while and pretend your okay.”

“Me neither.” she answered with a laugh.

“Trust her on this one. She’s no dancer.”

“Well, there is that one thing you can do with your hips-“”Ah! I think we can agree I’m no dancer then.”

“She means dancing and drinking at the same time. It’s the only way she dances. Not exactly Whore-Like dancing.” She looked relieved at him for helping.
