If you look at it from the viewpoint of how Aaron is treated by his parents, it absolutely could be. Aaron is treated as lesser than, has his agency taken from him, and is monitored to an extreme degree all because of an inherited medical condition he has no control over. When he's in college, his dad only tightens the leash out of fear that his son is going to hurt himself or another due to this condition, causing Aaron's resentment of how he was born to get worse. As a result... he starts masking.

Literally and mental illness wise. Aaron puts on a physical mask to hide his eyes, but also puts on a mental mask to hide the pain that this condition has cuased him. He hides every aspect of himself that he can so this condition doesn't drive anyone else away. He's become convinced that this is the origin point for all of his pain, and blames his condition entirely for the fact that he cannot connect with people, even if it was moreso his father's meddling that caused all of that.

A lot of the grief people with disabilities are given actually doesn't come from the condition itself, but rsther how poorly everyone in their life can respond to it. Theoretically Aaron could've had a perfectly normal happy and healthy life living with a genetic disability. But due to his father still having his own hang ups, that right was taken from him and then he was told that it was actually a good thing for him.

Aaron also definitely feels as someone who has never, ever, received the accommodations he needed. No one was allowed to know about his disability. He had to be ‘normal’. And so he never could receive what he needed to truly flourish. He had to adapt, in his own flawed fucked up way.

Additionally, his disability is all that people define him by. To family, the Guardian Forces, and himself, all he is just the Ultima. The idea that Aaron Lycan can co-exist with his disability is one impossibly foreign to them.

Your add ons are so on point. It's probably why Aaron values Aphmau to the point he does, she's one of the only people in his life who never saw The Ultima first and Aaron second. Even Melissa has done that before, Aaron has spent so much time having everyone define him by something he can't control.

Aphmau defines Aaron by things he can control, his personality and caring nature, rather than the things he can't like the pain his disability unwillingly causes. When you've spent your whole life being looked down on for something you can't help, having just one person look past that can do wonders to your psyche.
