The most devastating part of Levi and Petra’s relationship to me is that I don’t think romance had ever even crossed Levi’s mind until he heard from Petra’s dad that Petra wanted to marry him

I think the shock on his face is both from learning Petra nurtured those kind of feelings for him, and at the same time having his brain go through all of the possibilities that would have opened had he learned that before her death while have to stay strong and not let that show in front of her father

And granted, I don’t think Levi would have acted on it had he learned it before her death. I think he had made the conscious decision to not entertain those kind of feelings with how much death he experienced. But I think that decision was made easier because it never occurred to him someone might fall in love with him without him entertaining it

He assumed that being closed off meant he would never develop those feelings towards anyone and vice versa. But someone did. Without him even realizing it

He was already mourning her as a companion and comrade as it was, and all of a sudden he’s also mourning the what if’s.

Love love the parallelism of Leon and Claire with Odysseus and Penelope

Because they got their happy ending at the beginning of RE2R (they defeated the bad guy, they got a children together)

And yet, they got separated. Claire, trying to find her brother; Leon, forced to work for the government.

And they have never been reunited fully. They keep bumping into the other, there's the idea that they sometimes go and visit Sherry, but most of the time they havent been close enough physically

Bur they are each other's constant. Back to back, fighting terrorism, one is a fighter the other is a rescuer. All if that means giving their daughter a sense of normalcy. Same as Odysseus and Penelope that did everything for their son.

Almost 20 years and only recently Leon has been able to see some hope in his journey. Of his mistakes and baggage. We can have the same with Claire. With no need to officialize anything, they can pull it off and tell us a story of partnership that goes beyond any romantic idealization. If Odysseus and Penelope can pull it off without the need to put a random kiss in their story so can Leon and Claire.
