US Open Qualifiers -- 2013
What's summer without going to the US Open? Even if its the qualifiers. I managed to watch a bit of Taylor Townsend's and Go Soeda's matches, but for the most part, I spent the majority of my time walking around the grounds and in the Grandstand / Louis Armstrong Stadiums observing professional practice.
First off, let me just say that it was hot. I just so happened to pick the hottest day of the week to spend six hours in the sun. At least my sunburn wasn't too bad. Anyway, when we arrived on the grounds, we made an immediate right and found Ana Ivanovic practicing, as well as Jelena Jankovic practicing on the adjacent court (I don't really remember the difference between Grandstand and Louis Armstrong, so you'll have to spare me.) Immediately following Jankovic was Li Na. You can say it was a good morning. Later in the day, we encountered Maria Sharapova, Lleyton Hewitt, Philipp Kohlschreiber, Richard Gasquet, Mikhail Youzhny, and Tomas Berdych.
The ironic part of it all, was when I got home later that day, and found out that Maria was formally dropping out of the US Open this year due to a shoulder issue. She appeared to be fine, so it was quite surprising to hear that she would be stepping aside. She will be missed.
And as the day was coming to a close, I was fortunate enough to run into Stanislas Wawrinka practice with Roger Federer. This was my first experience seeing Roger up close, and how great his game really is.
So now I ask you, the tumblr tennis community, to share your best US Open story and experience. And if you end up going to the Open at all over the next two weeks, send me your story, or tag any posts with #tennisproblems. And if its worth mentioning, I'll post it! (With full credit of course.) Does anyone know what charity event this is? Notice anyone interesting in the picture?
EDIT: It is the London Queens 2013 Rally Against Cancer
Happy Birthday to Novak Djokovic!

Today marks the start of Roland Garros (@rolandgarros), also known as the French Open, one of the most prestigious events in the world of professional tennis. The clay court tournament has been held in Paris since the late 1800s and is named after Roland Garros, a beloved French fighter pilot in World War II who frequented the tennis stadium where the Open is held.
Two hundred and fifty-six players—128 men and 128 women—will compete for the singles and doubles crowns over the next two weeks. Want to get a first-hand look at the tournament? Be sure to follow these Instagrammers:

Nothing like livetweeting your thoughts on the australian open
Agnieszka Radwańska 6:3, 6:4 Li Na
Maria Sharapova of Russia walks out during her womens singles first round match against Anastasia Rodionova of Australia on day one of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club on June 25, 2012 in London, England. The obvious choice as Australian Open favorite in the women's side is Serena, but for some reason I have been liking Radwanska's chances more and more. It's not only the fact she has won two tournaments, but I really think after last years Wimbledon final she is mentally ready to fight head to head with Azarenka, Sharapova and Serena. I also think this year she could mimic what Azarenka did in 2012 and make Australia her first Grand Slam win. What do you think?
I'm not as educated in the women's sphere of the Open, but I'll try my best and go off my knowledge. :)
Based off of last years Australian Open, I'd want to give it to Azarenka because i really do love her game. Serena is dangerous, and also a favorite, but if her mental game falls apart, she's doomed to recover.
I'm not that familiar with Radwanska's game, so i cant give a valid opinion on it. But then again, the beauty of the women's draw is that its much more unpredictable than the men's. Its not dominated by a Big 4, so the Grand Slam can go to anyone.
“It’s no accident, I think, that tennis uses the language of life. Advantage, service, fault, break, love, the basic elements of tennis are those of everyday existence, because every match is a life in miniature.” - Andre Agassi
