āWhatās important to my research is important to us all,ā Luc unhelpfully pointed out, knowing he was only poking the bear with his commentary.Ā
With how stern she was towards him, it made him wonder if heād met her somewhere before and accidentally slighted her- his joking attitude wasnāt helping the fact. āYou have nothing to fear from these little ones, theyāre all from small species, they wonāt get much larger than this as long as I tend to them.. The giant tentacular plants in the lab are the real worry, but Iām sure I can handle it.āĀ A teasing smile reveled that he wasnāt serious, and he offered a noncommittal shrug.Ā āWhy are you so worried about my plants anyhow?ā
āMākay Einstein, whatever you say,ā Addison rolled her eyes. Her attitude wasnāt Lucās fault , she just always thought it best to put her worst foot forward when meeting people. They didnāt have to think she was nice, they just had to respect her after all. Her eyes widened at his next words, briefly praying to any god that would listen that some stupid ass plant wasnāt about to break through the lab ceiling... but then he smiled. A joke. a fucking joke. she huffed, almost a laugh.Ā āIām not worried about your plants in particular... Iām in the maintenance department. I just donāt want to fix shit that only became broken due to some stupid decision. Donāt take it personally.ā
@clnielsĀ
Addison walked up to the place she knew to be Danielās- Almost every house had had some kind of maintenance in the last few years, so itād been easy enough to confirm. After knocking on the door she stood back for a moment, adjusting her clothes out of habit. Being off the clock meant she wasnāt in her usual uniform any longer, and after showering her hair was no longer clipped back but fell loosely around her face. She considered what sheād do if he wasnāt home yet... go in anyway or walk home annoyed. Neither were particularly great... instead she called to try and get his attention from inside, if he was there,Ā āDaniel? Ten more seconds before youāre stuck with a leaky shower...ā
Maybe Addison had had a little too much to drink at Lunaās, but whose business was that? sheād gone over for a late dinner and stayed almost until closing, playing cards with some of the guards and rangers. Whatever the case she was now slowly making her way home, a bit clumsy as she walked with a stupid grin on her face. It might be a little sad that Addison didnāt really loosen up without alcohol, but whatever, she had things under control. She turned and almost ran into someone and burst out laughing,ā oh my god I didnāt see you!ā she giggled.Ā āWhatcha doinā?ā
terrascarred:
When the rover had left, it wasnāt entirely apparent whether or not they were actually allowed to leave. Yates knewĀ Owen had wanted to go OTG off the clock, to spend an hour or so memorializing the fallen guards from a few weeks ago, and while it wasnāt necessarily approvedā¦Ā they hadnāt been stopped. Even the few people who werenātĀ guards that were accompanying them. Maybe Command knew they needed to mourn. Besides, the guards werenāt about to make the same mistakes as last time. Not when that had cost them lives.
When they made it to Outpost 6, Owen and a few others had ventured off a little, towards where it had all gone down. It was different in the day light, the lack of predators around evident. He knew he couldnāt go all the way to the spot alone- it was too dangerous, and besides, the rain and regrowth wouldāve washed away the evidence. He couldnāt even hope to find bones.Ā Not in this climate, and not under those circumstances.
Heād sat a minute when he reached a small clearing, mostly alone since the Alia Terrans seemed to want to give him space. Owen cut off his parachord bracelet with a grimace and used some of the material to tie the sturdiest wood he could find into a cross. Heād find somewhere to put it, but even itĀ wouldnāt last long in this jungle. Still, he wouldnāt be able to forgive himself if he did nothingĀ to commemorate a fallen guard. His best friend. The person whoād saved his and many othersā lives. The trees almost echoed with the manās laugh, and it got him wandering a little. Somehow, he felt himself drawn south a bit to place the cross, and where he stopped, he lost his breath. Down at his feet was an identical bracelet to the one heād just cut- Axelās.Ā
Owen fell to his knees and scooped it up as tears welled in his eyes. AXEL. The bracelet was slightly torn, like it gotten snagged and ripped off, but still mostly in tact. He just wanted his best friend back.
Shit. Sure, that wasnāt the reaction Addison shouldĀ have had when sheād heard about Owenās bff disappearing.. dyingĀ like the others theyād lost. But Addison wasnāt good at grieving, or dealing with othersā grief. She preferred to throw herself into work until she was too exhausted to think, and then deal with it later alone. As bad as she was at giving sympathy.. or showing empathy.. It was just because thatās how sheĀ preferred it. But as similar as Owen and Addison could be at times, there were other ways they were polar opposites and Addie knew that he shouldnāt be alone, even if he wanted to be.Ā
Sheād climbed in the rover with some of the guards without hesitation, just waitingĀ for someone to stop them or question them- few people got on the wrong side of Addison Bennett and didnāt regret it, but nothing drastic happened. She rode in silence, staring out at the passing terrain though this time there was no excitement about going OTG and getting to leave despite not having the clearance. She didnāt even feel dread at the danger they may face, the danger those guards had faced a few weeks ago. It was just an empty hole in her chest devoid of anything other than regret for what her brother was going through. again.
Addison was just following along, trailing behind a little as everything sunk in. She remembered being a child before the fence had been finished, that feeling of anxiety sheād mostly forgotten creeping back in as her mind heard the sounds thatād terrified her so young. Sheād grabbed a gun from the rover to protect herself if need be, but most creatures lurked in the darkness not the daylight.Ā Owen knelt down in the dirt and Addison knelt beside him, placing a hand on his shoulder comfortingly.Ā āHey,ā she said softly. she gestured to what he was holding in his hands.Ā āWanna talk about it?ā
jamesxhenderson:
āModest, are we?ā He chuckles lightly, though he doesnāt doubt her word. They had a handful of maintenance workers and technical folks around, but Addison had trained herself to be the best and did the work that needed to be done. That couldnāt necessarily be said for everyone. There certainly was a difference between thinking about something and actually doing it, and Addison proved that pretty clearly.Ā
As she mentioned a fear of something digging up the wires James shook his head,Ā āYou know, I wouldnāt be surprised if that had been the case. They like them when theyāre close to the surface. Guess we were lucky these ones were buried deep I guess.ā When she asks for clarification his shoulders lift in a brief shrug.Ā āMostly the former.āĀ
āWhatās the fun in modesty?ā She asked pointedly in return, smirking to herself. No, Addison had never been the type to downplay her skills to make others more comfortable. Of course that may be why she wasnāt exactly popular with a lot of people.. She nodded as he agreed with her, picturing the hell sheād have to go through if thatād been the case.Ā āThank god it wasnāt- weād have to get construction out here to dig new lines, and with that many people working thereād have to be a hell of a guard escort, and then weād have to lay new wires and we donāt exactly have an endless supply of thoseĀ anymore... the council mightāve just chosen to shut this outpost down like they did 1 and 6..ā
Between the massive amount of work that wouldāve had to be done and the huge amount of red tape to get any of it accomplished, it was a genuine relief that the problem had been internal not external.Ā āOh yeah? Ā So you just happened to come to this particular outpost by chance?ā she asked, obviously not believing it.Ā āAm I in trouble? Ya know the head of maintenance is a huge dick, he just doesnāt like it when things donāt go his way...ā She asked bluntly, deciding it was better to know her fate when she got back to the colony than to just see what happened.

jamesxhenderson:
Frankly, James had enough rambunctious teenagers to keep his eyes on and scold - Addison was not one who he felt required a lecture. Sure she had probably been just like nearly every other teenager in the colony, itching to get out andĀ ābe freeā, but she was practically an adult now. He trusted she could look out for herself. Besides, it was doubtful his lectures ever would have an effect on anyone. They never seemed to phase Alex.Ā
As she patted the ground beside her James figured why not and took the invitation up, crossing over to where she had settled and taking a seat beside her.Ā āI seem to recall hearing you were pretty good on the maintenance side of things. That radio has been out for weeks. Any luck so far?ā As she inquired about why he was out and about James just smiled, shoulders lifting in a shrug,Ā ākeeping an eye on things. I guess itās kind of my job.āĀ
As he sat down beside her Addison sighed with relief, figuring that she wasnāt in any real trouble. She took a long drink from her water bottle and wrapped her arms around her knees to enjoy the few moments of relaxation before she started itching to work again.Ā āIām the best,ā she interjected, not feeling at all boastful but rather honest. Her boss might have an engineering degree but if Addison had stayed on earth 1 you could be damn sure sheād be surpassing him. Her training was all hands on and mostly self taught, he liked to sit in the office and plan things while she went out and actually did them.Ā
āI think Iām getting there, gotta tweak some things and run some tests but itās looking pretty good. I was afraid something had dug up and chewed up the outside wiring but itās all still in tact,ā she told him, satisfied with her progress thus far. Keeping on eye on things or an eye on me? Donāt tell me someoneās actually missing me back there...ā She added with a laugh.

Hearing that someone had gone outside the gates without an escort or permission wasnāt a rarity, as much as everyone that did the sneaking out tried to keep it under wraps. Word traveled fast among the guards of Alia Terra, and though Rosalie was no longer one, the job was in her nature. So, when a few of her former co-workers said they were going out to look for a misplaced woman, she readily jumped at the chance to tag along, happy to be stepping out of the office for longer than a few minutes. About halfway through the seatch they had all agreed to split up in effort to cover more ground, which payed off in the long-run; she moved much more effectively on her own. Spotting the woman, Addison, a few yards in front of her, she quickly made her way over.Ā āHaving fun, are we?ā She called out as she came into the others view, the faintest suggestion of a smirk on her lips.
Damnit, she couldnāt catch a break could she?Ā Addison cursed to herself as the redhead came into view. Whoever mustāve told on her for leaving was going to get an icy scolding the second she got back. A few of the guards were friends with her brother and so she could more often than not weasel her way out of any real trouble, and the rangers should just be happy she was out there in the first place- it was taking far too long for the council to approve this work order. But a former guard turned council woman herself, well.. that could prove more tricky. She stood and brushed herself off, since her break was seemingly over now, and turned to Rosalie.Ā āIf you want to call hours of work fun, than yeah- having a grand time,ā she rolled her eyes and crossed her arms loosely over her chest. Addison was a girl of action, not someone who liked waiting around for someone to tell her what was and wasnāt okay.Ā āWhat brings you out this way? Donāt tell me itās little oleā me. Does someoneās light bulb need changing or something? Because contrary to popular belief, Iām not actually the only one capable of fixing stupid little shit. Weāve got a whole department for that.ā
luciano-capmany:
āIt may not look like much more than weeds but Iāve got a lot of specimens in this garden- though I started it myself and it doesnāt technically belong to the lab, itās still important to my research.ā Luc knelt down to fix the tiny, d-i-y fence that heād built around the miniature garden outside of his building.Ā āThereās nothing worth stealing, itās all inedible and toxic, just be careful not to step on it or it could damage the samples and throw my research off for a week,ā
āOf course, very important to your... research..ā Addison nodded, folding her arms over her chest as she gazed down at the small garden heād built. New people. As much as Addison knew the pilgrimages were good thing, she couldnāt help but be annoyed with the learning curve everyone had to go through after arriving. For the most part she could avoid it and didnāt care in the least- she was not a babysitter nor anyoneās mom- but if anyone started breaking things or doing anything that Addison would later have to fix, well, that was when theyād get a pleasant little chat from the not-so-sunny-dispositioned woman.āIām not gonna steal your little plants,ā she huffed, ājust make sure you keep it contained. Things grow bigĀ here and if the roots start fucking with plumbing or something like that, Iām not afraidĀ to get someone to chop it all down.āĀ
