Have Fun in the Real World if you Hate School Dress Codes
Man, all of the high school teenagers who can’t stand dress codes and whine and moan about it being 100 degrees outside, so they can’t wear shorts or tank tops need to sit the fuck down, already.
You will never make it in the real world if you don’t want a job flipping burgers, stocking shelves, or checking out customers. You might get lucky with some places- I have. I’ve been in design studios that don’t mind t-shirts in jeans- until a client shows up, anyway.
Go look up the phrase business professional. And realize that you will have several days requiring such dress at a number of points in your life- especially if you want a job that doesn’t pay minimum wage. You can kiss that fucking job good-bye if you don’t bother to take an interview seriously enough to NOT adhere to this dress code.
I have worked in places that require ALL employees to adhere to business profession. EVERY. DAMN. DAY. Along with a commute to downtown on mass transit, and walking the rest of the way in Texas heat. So fuck you and your weak asses for having to wear jeans in school when it’s hot outside.
Let me tell you what I wear when I wear business professional:
Coat - I have both a heavy cotton navy suit, and a black linen suit. Then if I feel really daring, I can also wear a heavy navy military styled dress coat with a blouse. The bravest I’ve ever been in an interview is in the final interview and I did the faux pas: I wore a red blazer. I had already made my first impression, however, and this was the return ‘meet the team’ interview. (Spoiler: I got the job.)
Dress blouse - this can be anything from a wide collared white shirt (and it looks slick over the lapels of a coat), to a silk blue bouse, a knit red blouse, or a black and white layered blouse. This depends on the jewelry I’m wearing with it.
Dress slacks or skirt - Regardless of slacks or skirt, these will always be the same material as the coat I’m wearing, unless it’s that amazing military coat. Slacks are always straight leg and full length. Don’t you ever think capris or shorts are good for this. If you want to get away with a skirt, it needs to be knee length. You don’t want to show your whole legs? Get fucking slacks, then. Oh, by the way. If you’re wearing a skirt? Wear pantyhose, for gods sakes. And don’t even think about tights. Keep it simple and neutral.
Jewelry - This is where I let my character show, but again! But again, keep it simple. I’m a gamer, so I wear little gold triforce earrings (and they’re a hit when I meet another Zelda fan!), and a pendant on a simple gold chain. That’s IT.
Make Up - No ‘raccoon eyes’ or super intense ‘I saw this on youtube from this awesome makeup artist’ makeup. Once again, keep it simple.
Now. Think about this. Look at all the above and think about doing this. Every day.
Oh, and when you’re in transit, if you are wanting to know about carrying that coat? Sure- but if you were in my industry, you were also carrying your purse, potentially your lunch, AND laptop case while commuting. Easiest way to carry that coat? Wear the fucking thing.
Then I think about the private schools around here, where EVEN THE GIRLS are expected to wear suit coats with their dresses on certain days of the year.
You are weak ass idiots for whining that you can’t fucking wear shorts. Get off of your high horses already. Good luck surviving the real world.
