Hard to represent this online, but I made this yesterday and inked it today. It's a "victorian puzzle purse." The idea was at each step of unfolding it, the octopus's arms get longer. The execution is a little rough, but I want to play with the idea more. Making a linoleum cut for this might be fun, I'm definitely interested in printing onto things that fold or become 3d objects. There's room in there for something really cool.
Work in progress linoleum cut for printing. I think it’s coming along well, particularly given that this is far and away the largest cut I’ve ever done. The drawing translated roughly from the 3x4in. sketch to 18x24in. linoleum, but I don’t think that much needs to be changed.
I’m using this project as effectively a trial run for future large-scale linoleum works. I would love to make one for the next Tacoma Wayzgoose steamroller printing. I got to help with that this year and it was very inspiring.
It should be noted that I forgot to flip the drawing before copying it on to the linoleum, so my final product will have a reverse of my original sketch. This is fine, but a silly mistake.

I love getting overstimulated because I’m walking to class and holding posters and listening to music and a little too hot but also a little too cold and my music is too much and my boot is untied and my mind is racing because I had an awkward interaction with someone I think is cool.
Whatever, I get to make the prototype today so it’ll work out
So it’s just a proof of concept but I’m really happy with this. The magnets aren’t as strong as I thought they’d be so each section is only 2/3 the thickness because I had to remove one of the bookboard layers. Even then, I found the connection of the sections to be a little weak so I’ve decided that it’s going to be minimum 3 magnets per section. Also I had an issue where pulling the first section off would bring the second section with it, so I need to find a way to make the connection between the first and second sections slightly weaker than the second and third. It shouldn’t be too hard, the depth of a piece of paper would probably suffice.
Next step is to pour my full effort into the art and text that will feature on the sections.

Really proud of this and how quickly it came together. My doc gave me a stimulant to fight the fatigue from having mono. It’s working and this is evidence. This would’ve taken me ages and now it took me like 1.5 hours.

AGONY! Even more mushrooms!
It does sort of tickle me pink that my campus is just always covered in mushrooms. I haven’t noticed it as much in previous years tho. I think it’s because I’m finally happy enough to be keyed into the world around me.

Talk about a queer campus, this college is positively covered in mushrooms every fall.
Jokes aside, the mushrooms are some of my favorite things about this place.
I take pics of them every chance I get because more often than not they get obliterated by the mowers.
I was muted in my media writing class (because I talk to much) so instead of taking notes and raising my hand constantly I took notes and drew spiders.
First one was just me drawing a spider face randomly and then getting into it. Second was specifically to practice the proportions of smaller spider legs to the bigger ones. Third was to try and practice perspective (hard).
I think choosing little achievable goals for yourself is really important. I didn’t say I wanted to draw a spider I didn’t say that I wanted to do one specific thing, I told myself I was practicing a single aspect.
I really like how they turned out, despite their flaws. The first feels like it’s coming toward me, the second looks like it’s mid-scuttle, and the third has decent perspective. Of course there’s stuff I’d change or improve, but that’s how it is.
Second drawing of the spider. This one has better proportions but it still needs work. I’m starting to like the size of the secondary and tertiary arms, but I need to draw the body with smaller “slots” for them. Arm and leg are a little long. Idk about the head placement/whether I want a neck. Shoulders need to maybe be sloped a little more to seem more feminine. Also need to figure out how to draw spider boobs.
Eyes are another thing. As black orbs they work, but I’d prefer that they look a little more alive, so I tried a bunch of eye designs and hate like all of them.
Overall I’m really happy with the progression, it’s been fun to combine a spec-fic writing exercise with an artistic experimentation.
That was going to be it drawing wise but I felt inspired and finished her, as well as giving her boobs and making her fatter.
And then I made her hairy just in case anyone thought she was supposed to be smooth or something.
So now a few more things: I need to figure out a way to indicate she’s hairy other than…this. It was fun but took a while. I also need to learn how to draw spider person feet.

I may be a weirdo for saying this but genuinely dry erase and graphite on paper are some of my favorite media to make art in. You do not get detail easily, but it seems unserious. I find it easier to make art when I’m not taking myself seriously.
Behold, spider images. Sona needs work but for being a sketch on the side of my notes for my fitness class I’m proud of it.
