Hello, all, Alivia here! Iâm so excited to be officially kicking off TTW 2019!
First off, Iâd like to apologize for our unexpected hiatus last year. Both mods are still students, and last year in particular was incredibly busy for both of us. But Iâd like to get this event back into full swing! Iâve truly missed it.
Sab and I founded this event back in 2015, with the intention of creating something similar to Inktober, but dedicated specifically to all the creepy things that Tolkien wrote about in his Legendarium. We took it upon ourselves to post writing, art, and graphic design prompts during the last week of October for three consecutive years, and now after a âgap yearâ of sorts, weâre coming back.
(On a somewhat sadder note: Iâve tried to contact Sab, my co-creator and fellow mod, a few times over the past year to see what she has in mind for this event, but it looks like sheâs inactive and I havenât been able to reach her. If anyone knows how to contact her, please message me immediately.)
HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN TTW:
Watch out for this yearâs prompts, which will be posted on October 8th.
Create! Write, draw, design - whatever your heart desires. Adhere to the prompts or come up with your own horrific works. Tag your TTW posts with this yearâs tag, #ttw2019, so we can reblog/queue your work! (Please specify in the post or message us if you would like us to refrain from reblogging.)
Tag any gore/NSFW appropriately.
We also suggest that you follow us (and turn on post notifications if you want to) to stay updated :)
Feel free to post your work to this yearâs AO3 collection, which will be opened on October 25th! Please note that artists of any medium are all welcome to post their work to this collection.
Prompts will be coming soon! Canât wait to get this event started :) If you have any questions, feel free to direct them to our askbox!
Hello. Is there any chance for prompts for this year's TTW being announced today? ;)
unfortunately, youâll have to wait a little bit! we may be posting them in mid-september as opposed to october 1st. turn on post notifications and see :)
alivia here! just so everyone knows, ttw WILL be happening this year for certain. we are no longer looking for other mods, and will be running the event as usual. prompts and ideas for this year are already in the works :) normal reblogging/queueing will happen as in previous years, and an ao3 collection for this year will also be available. canât wait to see everyoneâs pieces!!

When Beren was killed Luthien brought back ⊠something, from somewhere. But who is to say where the power of the Lord of Death begins - and where that of the vanquished Maiar of Undeath ends?

do not have our mods blocked
Below, we detail how our tagging system works.Â
How Our Tagging System Works
The order of the tags is date, work, characters, and media type.Â
Dates are done in a European fashionâ for example, October 31, 2017 would read 31.10.17. Work is particular to what work of Tolkienâs the content refers toâ The Silmarillion, The Hobbit, Lord of the Rings, etc.Â
These are abbreviated as the following:
The Hobbit = th
The Children of HĂșrin= tcoh
The Silmarillion = silm
Lord of the Rings = lotr
Histories of Middle-Earth= home
Beren and LĂșthien= bal
As a member, youâll be expected to reblog approximately one day of content during Terrifying Tolkien Week (October 25th-31st each year). This is about 10-15 posts. You must also be able to follow to tagging system. Mod posts and answering questions will be handle by Sabine and Alivia, the admins.Â
Thank you, everyone, for participating in Terrifying Tolkien Week 2017! the enthusiasm and participation for this event always shocks me and Aliviaâ we had no idea two years ago how much this would hit off. Thanks again, and see you guys all next year!
âThen perforce Morgoth surrendered to her the gems that he bore with him, one by one and grudgingly; and she devoured them, and their beauty perished from the world. Huger and darker yet grew Ungoliant, bu her lust was unsated. `With one hand thou givest,ÂŽ she said;`with the left only. Open thy right hand.ÂŽ (Of the flight of the Noldor; The Silmarillion; J.R.R.Tolkien)
How easily the tale could have ended then and there, in the desolate wastes of northern Beleriand, with Ungoliant devouring not only the treasures of Formenos but also the Silmarils and mayhap Morgoth himselfâŠ
Iâm a day late! But hereâs my submission for Terrifying Tolkien Week, Day 2: Wild Hunt. (Because the Sindar hunting the petty dwarves was honestly terrifying). Read on Ao3.
âTake Flet and run.â He was gripping her arm so tightly that she could no longer feel her fingertips. âGo to the tunnels and do not look back. No matter what.â
âWhat of you?â
She knew the answer before it was spoken, yet it hurt all the same. âI will fend them off for as long as I can.â
âYou will die.â They would all die. It was only a matter of time until the gods of death hunted them all into extinction, with only their bones left in the pale monstersâ forest-homes, hung as trophies of the hunt. âCome with us. Live, even if only for today.â
âSome must stay to buy you time.â He glanced at the small child hiding in her skirts. How foolish it had been to bring a child into the world, how cruel.
âThen you take Flet and go,â she protested. âLet me stay.â
He shook his head, his heart breaking at her request. âI cannot.â
âWhy? Because Iââ
It was too reckless to speak of such things in the childâs hearing and far too dangerous to be wasting time on such arguments. He hugged her close and whispered in her ear. âThey will cease their hunt for the day if they take home enough bodies. You cannot ask me to make a sacrifice of you.â
âAnd yet you ask me to make one of you?â
But the gods of death and their silver blades came on fierce, black-eyed beasts and made sacrifices of them all.
Warning: total deviation from how I actually view Elros, this is literally just for Terrifying Tolkien. Read on Ao3
Nandië sighed with contentment as her liege and husband rose from the bed, leaving his seed to slicken her thighs. She prayed a son would result from the deed, one as strong and brave as his father, who could prove a worthy successor to Elros. Tar-Minyatur, she thought with a smile.
The king slung a robe of bright blue over his shoulders, but it hung slack, proudly displaying his nakedness. Nandië smile brightened at the sight, though her attention was quickly drawn to the necklace around his chest. The gold which made up the chain was same color as her pale roses, which were planted just below the window. Its pendant was a simple thing, some coin of old, and yet Nandië had never seen Elros without it. Even in their coupling, it remained around his neck, sometimes resting upon her own skin.
âMay I ask, your royal highness, the origin of your necklace?â
Elros looked surprised by the request. Then he smiled. Bright teeth flashed in the candle light, making NandiĂ« shiver despite the fur blankets around her. âThis is my first war prize. My original treasure.â
âTreasure?â NandiĂ« questioned. Elros returned to the bed, tugging away her blankets and tracing her ankle lightly.
âIndeed.â A feral grin made its way onto the young kingâs face. âMy foster fathers would bring my back treasures won by iron, but they were never mine. Not truly. Jewels mean nothing unless they are hard won with your own hand.â
âMined?â
Elros laughed. âNo, not that.â With dark eyes, he flipped her over. Already he was growing hard again. âThis belonged to the first man I ever killed. Took it from his still warm body, I even cleaned the blood off of it myself.â
NandiĂ«âs blood went cold at the thought of Elros looting a corpse, but he laughed at the sudden tension and bit down on her pulse point. âI see,â she whispered.
âHow can you? That thrill, that power.â NandiĂ« did not moan as he entered her for a second time. âTo extract the iron price⊠That is something no woman can know.â
The second time he spilt his seed, Nandië prayed no child would come from it. A child conceived in bloodlust would never do.
âYou will be beautiful, Ara, just like CurufinwĂ«.â That was praise. Praise always contained his brotherâs name when it came from his fatherâs lips. FĂ«anor was beauty, not just to the king, but to all of the Noldor.
In time, FinwĂ«âs words proved true. The word was soon directed towards him as well. Like his brother but golden, Tirion said. Beautiful.
Arafinwë looked upon the wreckage of Alqualondë. He saw the blood stains, the floating corpses, and the billowing smoke. Everything Fëanor did was beautiful. Fëanor defined beauty. Arafinwë smiled at the thought. I am not beautiful, after all then.
