Ah, amico mĂo! So, I've seen your post about the newest ep and I have to say, the ep was a disaster when it came to narrative story telling don't you think? Why instantly mature Marco and the regress him again? He was just so out of caharcter!
I donât really see it that way. The âbadâ part of the episode, to me, is the implication that Marco would have thrown away his old life just to prove himself -basically his usual determination and stubborness, coated in insecurity, brought to the very extreme. Thatâs something that doesnât really sit well with me, and that can be thankfully partially be explained by what Adam said (even though itâs not that canon, I guess)
The dimension, the experience, everything felt like way less than 16 years to Marco, either due to time shenanigans, or due to the nature of the trial itself.
But everything else? Itâs perfectly in line with Marco. We know that being a teen is hard to young Diaz. Heâs full of insecurities, uncomfortable in his unmanly body, he fears the future, being worried about being stuck in life, never finding his true place in the world, having a hard time opening up to others.
Makes sense for someone like this to have let himself go to a pleasant âfake likeâ something that allowed him to pretend to be someone he isnât, a cool macho guy living on the road. No need to worry about the future, about finding your place in life, when you have no responsabilities and no connections to anyone but yourself. But thatâs no way to live, and Marco ultimately understands it, and grow as a person from it. Heâs now aware, even more than before, that struggling in life, with the little annoyances, such as having to walk the puppies, or the big ones, such as having to go through the hardships of growing up, is worth it.
To conclude, I donât think Marco instantly matured just to regress: itâs the opposite! He basically didnât mature at all for 16 (fake) years, but then quickly did as soon as Star brought him back to reality, not in a far away adventure dimension, but on Earth, in his own room.
The episode wasnât âMarco gets to the ultimate goal of maturity, just to go back to the square he started fromâ. Itâs âOnce again, just like it happened in many episodes before, Marco gets one step forward in his journey to maturity, but the goal line is still far, far away. And heâs going to get there with Star, and his friends and family, not alone and clad in leather.â
