Grogu gave it another attempt, and this time, it was as successful as it was going to be. “Luboo,” he said.
As Din’s mind pieced the jumbled toddler word together, he came skidding to a jarring stop on a blade that could pierce beskar.
If he didn’t know the kid so well, he might not have ever figured it out. That phrase was something he left behind in his parents’ nonexistent graves, smothered in ash and dirt and tears to remain forgotten. Its tender echo did not belong to him, as he had scraped anything good from his heart when he was a mere child so that he could don Mandalorian armor and survive. It was something he heard sparsely in passing between naive mudscuffers who had only each other to cling to, stupidly getting attached to someone they were bound to lose to the galaxy’s treachery. If his hazy memory was accurate, it was the last thing his mother had cried before she was blown to pieces by a battle droid.
Soft, green ears twitched up when Din let slip an authentic smile that reached the warm brown in his eyes. Grogu had wanted to see it, even if his Force signature was bursting at the seams with enduring pain. Overwhelmed and inconsolable, Din brought him in closer, tucking him against his shoulder with a hand cradling the back of his head.
“I love you too,” he choked, his eyelids clamped shut. To the edge of the galaxy and beyond, pure and unending. More than you could fathom. The foreign words abraded his tongue raw, yet they were so right that he repeated himself. “I love you, Grogu.”

Woke up today and thought about doing a comic about Godzilla and the entire comic appeared and played in my head. Spent 20 more minutes lying in bed thinking about dialogue and cutting a couple things. Should have thought more about paneling but things got better as I drew. A rare case of the comic quality going up over time! Haha
I don't know if you've answered before, but what Mothra-related Godzilla show would you recommend? I'm really into their interactions but have no idea where to start and at this point I'm too scared to ask anyone else haha
Oh this is a great question! There’s a LOT of good movies with Mothra in them. The 1992 Godzilla vs Mothra movie is my favorite Mothra movie!
Ghidorah The Three Headed Monster (1964) also has some incredible Mothra scenes!
The Monsterverse movies have a really fun interpretation of the character (Godzilla: King of the Monsters 2019, and Godzilla x Kong The New Empire 2024)
The millennium era Godzilla movies have some very good Mothra movies too. Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidora: All Monsters Attack (2001) is one of my all time favorites. And Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003) is incredible!
Lastly, I’d highly recommend watching the original Mothra movie and the Mothra Rebirth trilogy. They aren’t focused on Godzilla, but if you like Mothra, then they are an amazing watch
Are you the one people go to with their Godzilla asks?
If so, what do you recommend to someone who's only seen Shin Godzilla, Minus One, and the original from the 50s?
People do tend to go to me with those Godzilla questions, and I’m always happy to answer!!
I think if you liked Minus 1 the you will also really like Godzilla (2014). Monsterverse gets pretty silly with the later films (in a good way), but Godzilla (2014) keeps a serious and grounded feeling.
If you like the original, the I’d recommend watching Godzilla (1984). It’s a semi reboot that still acknowledges the original, and it’s the start of a really good series of Godzilla movies that people refer to as “Heisei Era Godzilla.” That entire continuity is great.
If Shin Godzilla is your favorite then I’d recommend the Godzilla Singular Point animated show. This one isn’t for everyone, and it’s got some extremely confusing sci fi elements that tend to turn people off, but I really liked this show. It’s a weird take on Godzilla, but it’s fascinating and fun!
Freebie to infodump about the Godzilla universe!!!!! (if you have spoons, can you do the movies in order? Or are there a lot of movies? I love Godzilla but I dunno where to start movie wise or comic/graphic novel/manga wise... 😅)
Okay, so Godzilla has A LOT of movies with a lot of different continuities.
I will list all of the different continuities with all the different movies in order below the “view more”, but first some context.
When Godzilla first stated out it was all in one big continuity with a ton of other Kaiju movies from Toho Studios. Monsters would have their own movies and then appear in cross overs later. This lasted for about 20 years and it was AWESOME. Eventually the movies stopped making as much money and the universe was shelved.
In the 80s Toho rebooted Godzilla and the movies ran for another decade before they took a break. (This is my favorite era of Godzilla movie). After that the started to do less continuity heavy movies.
Once the Millenium era rolled around the movies started being a lot more stand alone (all of them are designed to be watchable on their own, but the post millennium era movies often explicitly weren’t connected to many other films). This has held true with the Japanese Reiwa era films as well with Shin and Minus One not connecting to previous movies (the Anime Trilogy being the notable exception)
On the flip side, the American Monsterverse Movies are very heavily connected to each other, and even have canon games, and comic books (and a canon TTRPG).
It’s looking like the Japanese Godzilla movies are going to go back to a more continuity heavy model now that they’ve announced Godzilla World.
These continuity lists are mostly from the Godzilla Wiki. All I’ve done is add commentary and correct a few small things.
Showa Era: These are the originals! I love these movies and I highly recommend watching at least Godzilla 1954, but people tend to burn out if they try to marathon all of the Showa era for some reason. (I don’t really understand why, but it happens)
Godzilla (1954)
Godzilla Raids Again (1955)
Rodan (1956)[5]
Varan (1958)[5]
Mothra (1961)[5]
Frankenstein vs. Baragon (1965)
King Kong vs. Godzilla (1962)
Atragon (1963)
Mothra vs. Godzilla (1964)
Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964)
Invasion of Astro-Monster
The War of the Gargantuas (1966)
Ebirah, Horror of the Deep (1966)
King Kong Escapes (1967)
Son of Godzilla (1967)
All Monsters Attack (1969)
Godzilla vs. Hedorah (1971)
Godzilla vs. Gigan (1972)
Godzilla vs. Megalon (1973)
Zone Fighter (TV 1973)
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974)
Terror of Mechagodzilla (1975)
Destroy All Monsters (1968)
Heisei: This is my Favorite era of Godzilla. If you are only gonna watch one continuity, the this is my recommendation.
Godzilla (1954)
The Return of Godzilla (1984)
Godzilla vs. Biollante (1989)
Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah (1991)
Godzilla vs. Mothra (1992)
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II (1993)
Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla (1994)
Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995)
Gemstone Continuity (This is an may be a sequel to the Heisei movies. People believe that the Godzilla in these short films is a grown up Godzilla JR from the Heisei continuity)
Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex (2022)
Godzilla vs. Megalon (2023)
Mothra Rebirth: Despite what a lot of people believe, these are not cannon to the Heisei Godzilla films. They are stand alone Mothra movies, and they rule. I suggest not watching the dubbed version of these movie. The dubs are horrendous .
Rebirth of Mothra (1996)
Rebirth of Mothra 2 (1997)
Rebirth of Mothra (1998)
TriStar Continuity: I know everyone hates this movie, but the cartoon is amazing
Godzilla (1998)
Godzilla: The Series (TV 1998–2000)
We are now in the Millennium era. These movies all stand alone pretty well, and only benefit a little bit from seeing the other movies in their continuity. Nearly all of them are canon to the original. I love these movies.
Godzilla 2000 Continuity
Godzilla (1954)
Godzilla 2000: Millennium (1999)
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus continuity
Godzilla (1954)
Godzilla vs. Megaguirus (2000)
GMK continuity: the 1998 Godzilla movie is barely referenced but it’s technically canon
Godzilla (1954)
GODZILLA (1998)
GMK (2001)
THE KIRYU SAGA: this one is cool because every Showa era movie that doesn’t have Godzilla is canon. Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla shows most the relevant clips, so you really don’t need to watch all of the previous moves, but I really like these movies and do recommend them.
Godzilla (1954)
Rodan (1956)
Varan (1958)
Mothra (1961)
Atragon (1963)
Frankenstein vs. Baragon (1965)
The War of the Gargantuas (1966)
King Kong Escapes (1967)
Space Amoeba (1970)
Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla (2002)
Godzilla: Tokyo SOS (2003)
Godzilla Final Wars continuity: This is a 100% stand alone movie. For some reason people think this movie is canon to every single movie that came before it but that wouldn’t make any sense
Godzilla Final Wars (2004)
The Monsterverse: This is the American Godzilla continuity. It’s extremely fun and has a lot of entires. I recommend starting with Godzilla 2014 and then watching the Kong stuff after King of the Monsters
Kong: Skull Island (2017)
Skull Island (TV 2023)
Godzilla (2014)
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters S1 (TV 2023–24)
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters S2 (TV 2026)
Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (2024)
Shin Godzilla continuity: this movie rules but it’s best watched without any prior knowledge or context
Shin Godzilla (2016)
GODZILLA Anime Trilogy Continuity: These are my least favorite Godzilla movies. There’s some decent ideas here but it’s a frustrating series
GODZILLA: Planet of the Monsters (2017)
GODZILLA: City on the Edge of Battle (2018)
GODZILLA: The Planet Eater (2018)
Fest Godzilla continuity: These are short films available for free on YouTube. The whole series will take you less than an hour to watch, and it’s amazing.
Fest Godzilla 2: Godzilla vs. Hedorah (2021)
Fest Godzilla 3: Gigan Attacks (2022)
Fest Godzilla 4: Operation Jet Jaguar (2023)
Fest Godzilla 5: All Monsters Showdown (2024)
(the first Fest Godzilla movie is not part of this continuity)
Godzilla Minus One continuity: This is another reboot. The sequel is out later this year. The movie is extremely well made but it’s also very much nationalist propaganda that tries to shift the blame for japans war crimes from the soldiers to the government while trying to appear anti nationalist by decrying the way the government treated the soldiers. These movies require a lot of nuance, but that conversation isn’t really happening
Godzilla Minus One (2023)
Godzilla Minus Zero (2026)
Godzilla Singular Point Continuity: This is a stand alone anime series. It’s very good but very different from the things on this list
