Miya twin’s promise.

I love how the promise of whom had a better life between the Miyas first comes out as a result of Osamu wanting to reassure himself that his choice is valid and that he isn’t making a mistake in choosing to open a food store/food service over voleyball.

And you have Atsumu who always had Osamu as a constant in his life realizing that they wouldn’t be playing together as the “Miya twins” anymore and basically loosing the partner that could always keep up with him and welcomed Atsumu’s “ideas” of how something could be more efficient if done in another way. And how both of them were afraid and hurting.

But then you have them years later and the promise instead of being a weapon is a way to still remain connected to each other: it also means, no matter what you do with your life, what path you choose, I’ll be in your life until the very end.

You see them support each other’s interests and applaud the other’s triumphs, and involve themselves in what the other sibling’s live is.

Osamu being aware and involved in Atsumu’s vb is something we see in the panels: his advice about the new serve, his reactions to Atsumu’s play, and the way he comforts Atsumu with Atsumu’s favorite dish.

The thing is, Atsumu is as interested in Osamu’s triumphs and making sure Osamu can triumph. He uses their rivalry to make Osamu think of ways in which to make his store unique, something that can hold up against other food services that are already out there (light novel ”Onigiri Miya opens”); and he has enough knowledge about said food to realize when he’s eating it that it’s the first rice of the year after just one bite. And Osamu is expecting Atsumu to notice that.

They probably bounce off ideas to each other and Atsumu sometimes gets into Onigiri Miya’s kitchen and observes Osamu doing food prep while they talk about volleyball, rice, their old teammates, their parents and so on.
