((Back in the States! Â Sorry about that disappearance. Â can't be connected much in Canada :c ))
The voice took a moment to answer, it was probably having a little more difficulty with the accent, but it was getting it, "Usually stasis is brought on to ensure there will be a substantial amount of test subjects for the future. That is most likely the reason why."
âSubstantialâŠÂ what?â Rubyâs eyes narrowed. âJusâ how far in tâfuture am I?!â
((augh, much as I hate to just post and run, I need to head for bed. Â G'night, all. Â I promise, I'll be more active now. <3 ))
The camera followed Ruby's precise movements, tilting as she grew nearer, "I was going to ask you that. I assume you are recently awakened." the lens refocused, the woman had moved, "Test subjects often come out of their sleep, if you will, with a difficult time remembering why they were sleeping in the first place. Is that the case with you?"
She paused, trying to remember. "...aye, seems 'tis. Â I r'member bein' put t'ice, but no, I'm not r'memb'rin' why."
"Yes." just as narratively told, the voice chimed up almost instantly, answering the woman. The camera went about whirring, "Do you have a name?" the voice asked, sounding a little too mechanical to be of anything organic, at least it sounded neutral, for the time being.
The voice startled her, and she visibly jumped. Â It wasn't human, or at least, it only barely sounded human, and was very unnerving, even to Ruby. Â After a quick glance around, she started toward the camera to face it directly. "T'name's Ruby. Â Y'mind tellin' me where I am'n how I got 'ere?"
Audibly a camera shifts its focus on the redhead curiously, the lens adjusting for a clearer view of the woman. No voice is heard, yet, though it would probably respond if anything was directed at it.
The sound of the camera's movements made the Irishwoman look up. Â She frowned. "...am I bein' watched?"

Ruby groaned softly as she slowly came to consciousness. Â Almost immediately, her skin practically rippled as she started to shiver; the chill was down into her bones, worse than any winter sheâd felt before. Â She bit back a whine, and shoved at the obstruction above her with both hands, as well as her bare feet. Â Her skin stuck to the frozen metal, but with a pneumatic hiss, the obstruction moved, and warmer air rushed in.
She took in several deep breaths, trying to warm herself and her lungs, but ended up wheezing momentarily. Â The air had a faint, metallic taste to it, and smelled of chemicals like a hospital. Â Slowly, she sat up, looking around around and wondering just where sheâd ended up. Â The image of herself as Bela Lugosi popped into her mind, and she couldnât help but smirk.
Surrounding her were numerous pods not unlike the one in which she sat.  Frost covered any windows that might have shown its contentsâand considering where she was, Ruby had no trouble imagining just what they containedâor rather, who.  Her eyes narrowed slightly, and she climbedâslowly, on shaky limbsâout of the pod, trying to keep steady as she shivered so hard she could hardly stand straight.
âFuckinâ hell,â she muttered between chattering teeth. âWhere tâfuck am I?â
Morgan had found a tiny corner to sleep in, somewhere to hide in a way that had more to do with personal shame than it did with the usual âavoid the cameras and the robots and stay aliveâ.
The cold made it easier. Even if he was ragged from interrupted sleep and hungry enough to eat a horse (and probably chase after the rider, to be honest). This part of the facility had been cold and creepy and quiet, and long-devoid of any human interaction.
Well, of the non-frozen variety, at least.
The groaning of machinery woke him, and as soon as he was assured that it wasnât just his stomach or his aching muscles, he pushed himself up into an alert crouch, one hand reaching for the portal gun that stayed by his side. When machines started to move on their own, it was never a good sign.
⊠was he going mad from the solitude? Or was that really a human voice? Portal gun readied in both hands, he cautiously started to peer out from between the two pods.
Ruby shivered, and she brought up her arms to hug herself and rub at her bare, scarred skin.  Now that she was out of the cryo-pod and in warmer air, her blood was starting to move quicker, restoring a little more color to her otherwise pale skin.  But it also meant the rest of her was waking up, too, and everything began to hurt.  She winced, biting back a groan, and forced herself to start moving.
"Fuckin' hell," she muttered. "So damn cold... need t'get somewhere warmer."
She glanced down, spotting the scars on her knees.  Where had those come from?  Her mind worked, trying to drag the memories out of dusty, frozen storage.  The various round sigils on the pods around her looked painfully familiar, and soon she was remembering.
Aperture. Â She was in Aperture Laboratories, that strange company that was actively looking for vagrants like her--and her partner--
She swallowed hard, moving on.
So she'd been a test subject. Â Freerunning was one of her specialties, and it had helped her quite a bit in the strange, physical tests she was asked to perform. Â A human mouse in a maze, in essence. Â And then she was offered an extra opportunity for cash, and she took it. Â Nothing had seemed to happen, but when she offered to stay on as a test subject, she was taken away and put in that pod--
"An' t'en turned inta some sort o' human icicle," she muttered to herself. Movement caught her eye, and she glanced in the direction she thought she saw something. Â There didn't seem to be anything there--but she knew better. "...who's t'ere?"
((...so, um. Â I come back and then disappear. Â whups. x.x; Â sorry. Â I'm back now, though! Â Even if I'm on vacation at the moment.))

âHeh. Â Nah. Â Iâm usuâly careful âboutât.â She was used to being touched, but she still leaned away a little. Â Her red hair was rather filthy yet anyway, after some time of not being able to have a bath. âIf I tâink Iâll be snagginâ it, I tie it up tighter. Â Anâ what oâ you, lass? Â Whaâs yer name?â
âIâm the Curiousity Sphere! Have you heard of me before? Who are you? Whatâs your name? Do you have one of those weird ânicknamesâ as well? Why are you here? Were you promised cake? Did you think the cake was down here? Why isnât your hair very soft? Can you fix that?â
"Han't heard o' ya, nah." Ruby looked the girl over carefully.  She'd taken a glance over before, but now she had a closer look, especially since Curiosity was so close.  There were the tell-tale signs of inhumanity that she'd grown used to--though Curi was built to look far more human. "Me name's Ruby, but it in't a nickname.  I do have a nickname, t'ough--I've been called t' Leprechaun most o' me life, on account o' me her'tage'n height.
"As fer why I'm down here... tha's a good question. Â I dunno. Â Weren't promised cake, t'ough, so I wouldn' say I t'ought it were down here." She shook her hair out, smirking slightly. "As fer why me hair in't soft, it's 'cause it's dirty, lass. Â I han't had a shower'r not'in' fer a while, but a shower'd fix it, once it's dry."

Ruby chuckled, holding up her hands. âWhoa, now, settle down tâere, lass. Â Yer talkinâ too fast fer me tâkeep up.â Crossing her arms, she grinned at the girl, looking her over. âIâm not lost, donâ ya worry âbout tâat. Â Aye, Iâm a test subject, but Iâve done me testinâ fer tâday. Â I know how tâget back. Â Me hairâs so long âcause I dinâ cut it fer years. Â Anâ me scars come from a lot oâ fights. Â Anytâinâ else?â
âDoesnât your hair get caught on anything while testing?â Curiousity repeated, it being the only question that hadnât received and answer. In the same breath, though, a hand went up to curiously touch the very hair she was asking about. What would it feel like?
Clearly, the concept of personal space had been lost on her.
"Heh. Â Nah. Â I'm usu'ly careful 'bout't." She was used to being touched, but she still leaned away a little. Â Her red hair was rather filthy yet anyway, after some time of not being able to have a bath. "If I t'ink I'll be snaggin' it, I tie it up tighter. Â An' what o' you, lass? Â Wha's yer name?"

Why do you have so many scars? Are you a test subject? Why arenât you testing? Are you lost? Do you want me to show you how to get back? Why is your hair so long? Doesnât it get caught on things while testing?

As you've probably noticed, I haven't been posting much here. Â My final semester before graduation started up again and now I've got too much to do. Â I apologize profusely, especially since I'd made promises and all that, but I'm afraid I can't keep up Ruby's blog very often. However, that doesn't mean that I'll be deleting it. Â As the title says, I'm just going on hiatus. Â I'll likely be back after graduation. Â Until then, everyone.
