the meaning of life? is to make your bedroom as comfy as possible. that's it that's the purpose
In 1917 representatives of the small Armenian community of New York organized a unique action in one of the city streets, trying to attract public attention to help the Armenians in need. Girls in the images of Mother Armenia and orphans raised a poster with the following note: āWe mourn for our 1,000,000 lost, You can help the 1,500,000 survivingā.Ā

sorry if this is a stupid and/or weird question but your response to that anon talking about people experiencing orgasms during childbirth made me wonder if there's a certain point in development after which it'd be weird for pregnant people to have sex or masturbate, since after a certain point the fetus(?) can hear? like, should people do it quietly or does it just not really matter? sorry again but i am genuinely clueless
should. should pregnant people have sex quietly so their baby doesn't hear?
okay even assuming your unborn child can hear you fucking. it's like having sex in front of your stuffed animals or your dog, dude. they have absolutely no understand of what is going on. they don't give a shit. at no point is any person who has ever or will ever be born going to go "oooooh man I think hearing my parents fuck while I was in utero really fucked me up actually" that's not how anything works. they're too busy going "mmm yummy amniotic fluid" they do not know or care that sex is happening
I swear this is a consequence of the "life begins at conception" propaganda. Combined with the recurrent moral panic about "protecting children" (from knowledge).
Absolutely rancid combination of Christian morality with Christian morality.
I'm sad to say that the rise of fascism has been visible in my inbox for years as people become increasingly distrustful of their own bodies and pleasure. you see it in people's paranoia around becoming "porn addicts," their need for reassurance that a 24 year old isn't a predator for dating a 22 year old, their fears that they may have unwittingly committed assault by looking at another child's naked body when they were young, their insistence that consensual sex is impossible for anyone who has had a single drink or smoked a whiff of weed. people, especially young people, are doing a tremendous amount of work for fascism in terms of rigorously policing their own bodies and sexual expression, and they often don't even realize it.
It's definitely the purity and Sex Is Bad bullshit, not pro-life bullshit, speaking as someone who has spent time in the pro-life community (admittedly only US Christian-oriented ones).
As long as your OB/midwife hasn't said you should avoid sex, you can have it throughout pregnancy. In the latter half of pregnancy, the rocking movement the baby experiences can actually put them to sleep!
(For anyone unaware, not only is the cervix between the vagina and the uterus (meaning a penis/dildo cannot reach the uterus), but there's also a natural mucus plug in the cervix during pregnancy that keeps anything from the outside world (including in the vagina) from getting into the uterus, so no semen or lubricant can get in either.
On top of even that, the baby is inside of amniotic sac ā a translucent membrane fully encasing it from embryo to right around the time of birth, filled with fluid to keep it cushioned and well-protected, as well as to help the lungs, gastrointestinal (stomach/intestines/rectum) tract, and urinary system develop)
While there are sound memories from within the womb ā babies show recognition of voices they heard often in the womb (especially the person who carried them), songs that were sung, and music listened to ā that's a recognition and comfort thing. Not a "oh yes this song Daddy sang every night!" or "Papa was talking about going for takeout every Friday" or whatever. Fetal brains aren't developed enough for that sort of thing, only recognizing familiarity from patterns. The sounds of their parent(s) having sex before being born aren't going to be remembered or even registered.
A fair amount of people who have given birth say that sex during pregnancy is the best sex they've ever had. If you're pregnant and are up for it, you should have sex!
(You should still practice safer sex if you're not in a closed relationship where you know nobody involved has STIs/STDs)
I'm one of the few people that genuinely LOVES working customer service (hotel receptionist here), like yes the occasional person is rude and entitled. But most of the time? People are kind, and funny, and will jump at the chance to share a bit of their lives with someone else.
The businessman that comes in every week who seemed grouchy at first now smiles and waves when I remember his name, and explains he's just finished a long drive, and he doesn't MEAN to come off as rude, he's just tired.
The mother and daughter who visit the hotel each summer and tell me they've been coming here for years, and each time they visit they go to the pier and save up their tickets for the big ticket items. One day they come through the doors with the biggest grins, the older lady in the wheelchair proudly waving a huge stuffed toy tiger she's "had her eye on for years".
The young man with his girlfriend who looks nervous as he approaches reception, and stumbles over his words, his hands shaking as he signs the paperwork to check in. I've spent the last two weeks on the phone with him organising this; we've set up the bedroom with balloons and petals and decorations, and he's going to propose as soon as they get to the room.
The woman who I've not seen before who asks if I'm local, and tells me she grew up here, and had recently found herself drawn back. We talk about the sounds of seagulls, and the metal clanging of masts down at the harbour, and how the sounds that fade into the background are the ones you miss most when you leave. She's writing a book and promises to send me a copy when she's done.
The regular who goes out of her way to buy us all the strangest biscuits she can find at the tourist shops. We try them together, pulling faces at the ones that just don't work.
The thirty something woman who immediately sees a kinship in me and whispers to me that she has been here before, but under a name she no longer uses, and we celebrate the freedom she feels.
The support group that comes in for coffee each week and sit together filling the foyer with laughter.
Every single person living their own wonderful complicated rich lives, and I get to be a part of that. How is that not beautiful?
I made a two hour video essay about renaissance cartography and english magic
Also this is my face hi
Hey thank you everyone for the positive reception! The video is shaping up to be a real smash hit!
I'm gonna be taking a much needed and much deserved break for a bit. In the meantime I will humbly plug my patreon. I wouldn't be able to do projects like this without your support.
Here's to more in the future!

I think maybe not enough people in disability spaces think about what it's like to need the assistance of a carer.
It's a different experience for different levels of need. Some of us might need only low support, or support with specific tasks. Others need higher support, and there are many disabled people who need assistance with most or all daily tasks.
Dependence is a scary thought for some people, but for many it's a part of everyday life. Some level of dependence is common for disabled people, and needing carers or support workers is not as uncommon as people think.
Disability conversations often don't discuss carers, or don't allow people to bring their carers into the conversation. Some people may need assistance from carers or support workers to be in a physical place for community. Some might need help using online spaces like tumblr. Some might need help communicating. Carers are a part of life for many and talking about carers is important.
Carers can be positive, supportive and good relationships. But can also be stifling or even abusive. Care is complicated, and people should be able to talk about it.
I can only talk about my experience of lower level care. I invite people with formal support workers and full time care to share.
Thank you for this post. I require 24/7 uninterrupted nursing for total care with all ADLs and complex medical tasks.
Being this dependent on other people is inherently difficult emotionally and logistically, I cannot of course deny that.
But I think I could make peace with it pretty easily if the appropriate care were actually available. My experience descending through the whole spectrum of care needs from 'nothing' to '22 hrs aide care a week' and so on has always been the same in that regard.
The bad part is relying on systems and people who are consistently inconsistent, incompetent, negligent, and often abusive. I think I could live quite a happy life in my situation if my caregivers had the relevant skills and approach. I am working towards that.
You're so right that even with other disabled people, mentioning caregivers can lead balloon the whole conversation. Especially when your needs are high. It feels like when you mention it, it becomes the totality of how others see you. I am not immune to this: before I became bedbound and needed this level of care, the facts of my friend's similar situation dominated my mental image of him.
I think it is unfortunately quite a natural human response to frame your understanding of someone around what feel to you like the most pressing and salient facts of their existence. "My friend who loves riding bikes," "my cousin with the shaved head," "my friend who is bedbound and needs 24/7 care."
I will say I have learned an enormous amount from this situation. Insight into human behavior and interaction first and foremost. I went straight from the level of disability that severely isolates you to the level where I am unable to be alone 24/7. It was not a pleasant learning curve, but what I have gained is applicable to many different areas of life.
i often wish my faves were more popular but then i see how people act about popular characters and i don't wish that anymore
when i posted this i didn't realize people would think i mean that people are too mean or weird about popular characters in a negative way. i was thinking about the fact that popular characters get turned into boring homogeneous sexless avatars with no edge or depth who are only allowed to be a representation of fans' personal experiences and therefore cannot do wrong without it being explained away or somehow someone else's fault because otherwise it's a personal attack upon the fan

Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.
From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:
All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.
it is genuinely so unbelievably annoying to be a child trafficking survivor and have to listen to people argue about shadows on the wall when it comes to childrenās rights and child abuse prevention. the only true way to prevent child abuse is to take away parental control. give children rights. give them the education, resources, and rights to say yes or no to whatever and whoever they desire. i know what would have helped me. iām so mind numbingly sick of all of this. everyone wants to feel like a hero, but nobody wants to help anyone.
there is not a pedophile cabal hiding in the shadows waiting to kidnap children. parents are the number one perpetrators of child sexual abuse. my kidnapper was my mother. my traffickers were all paid by her and had legal custody over me. i was forced thru constant manual labor and sexual humiliation in the name of ātherapyā because parents are allowed to do whatever they want with the children they own. the end of adult supremacy is the only way to end child abuse.
Someday people are going to post ads like this with captions like "the future we were promised..."
Understanding that there is no objectively good art has many benefits, but a favorite of mine is being granted the ability to see that you hate corporate memphis for the same reason people hated fruitiger aero ten years ago, and that people will like corporate memphis ten years from now for the same reason you like fruitiger aero now: because it's the opposite of the thing that's in popular use right now, and reminds you of being ten years younger
The process is beginning
