the nightmare is a replay of the moment loic realized his rship with marcel had been a mistake, opening to a larger scene that builds up to the moment he realizes his rship with bennie had been a mistake
loic was panicking; in similar emergency situation scenes (particularly ysmes deaths) loic typically initially struggles to cast at all but then casts something very disarming (ch2 fel, chanter)
his typical escape dangerous situation spell is mild temporary memory tampering (nino) that seems very advanced
there were no mentions of marcel in loic nor bennies lives after the lamplight ➡️ loics nightmare scene....
which, makes sense for both of them to distance themselves from him with loic realizing he needs to gtfo & bennie backsliding into the cult that marcel fought so hard against.... but theres something missing......

marcel and ysme have an unclearly affectionate rship (victor pointed out in ch2 loics mentions of marcel are like the one time ysme doesnt make snide/crass comments about loics contacts)
and marcel clearly kept some paper trail on loic, its so unclesr how much of it was in his general treasure hunting reports vs how much it was that ysme was able to piece together
.....unless its like, marcel *couldnt* piece it together so she did it on her own and didnt tell him the results
like if loic either eternal sunshine'd himself out of marcels memories, or in an attempt to do so messed up his memory in general....?
