Dizzee Kipling / INFP
Marcus âDizzeeâ Kipling of The Get Down
Dominant Function: Introverted Feeling (Fi) - âI used to be a quiet kid, the whole world in front of me / Kaleidoscope eyes in fact, a telescopeâs eyesight / Canât reveal the things I wanna see.â Like Zeke, Dizzee is a quietly compassionate kid. His brothers Ra-Ra and Boo-Boo are very emotionally expressive, but Dizzeeâs feelings are more contained. His attraction to Thor is intense and unspoken. Dizzee isnât generally concerned with external expectations (âA life lived in fear is a life half-livedâ). Graffiti writing is so important to him that heâll skip school, wander into Warlords territory, and even get himself âlocked up againâ to participate in street art culture.
Auxiliary Function: Extroverted Intuition (Ne) - âIâm a vision-vision-vision-visionary / Colors-colors-colors vary / Swear I was abducted by them aliens / I can see the 2086, lady⊠Iâm wishinâ hard for these far away visions / Elevate the mind state, thatâs my only mission.â While Zekeâs artistry is concrete - he rhymes what he knows and tells it like it is - Dizzeeâs style is more abstract. As the âwriterâ Rumi 411, Dizzee tags subway cars with elliptical phrases and adopts the persona of an alien in a top hat in order to express his artistic vision. He chases the deeper meaning of Shaolinâs street art all over the city. Is he supposed to be in class? Who cares? Dizzee is less concerned about reality than he is about artistic possibilityâŠ
Tertiary Function: Introverted Sensing (Si) - âŠHowever, thatâs not to say that Dizzeeâs reality never makes him cautious. He lives in an era in which the LGBTQ community is completely underground, condemned by religion and shunned by society. When he attends an LGBTQ party downtown, itâs the first time heâs in a space where the whole rainbow of orientation and identity is celebrated. No one is throwing around the word âfaggotâ like in Zeke and Ra-Raâs English class. On the contrary: Thorâs female friend is actively encouraging Thor and Dizzee to kiss. Dizzee hesitates, unsure of whether or not heâs really in a safe space.
Dizzee pays attention when a precedent has been set. His graffiti tag indicates familiarity with the poet Rumi. He greatly respects Shaolinâs work and immediately takes off in pursuit of his newest piece because he knows it will be brilliant; all of Shaolinâs work has been good. Heâs honored when Shaolin gives him his spray cans upon retiring to become a DJ.
Inferior Function: Extroverted Thinking (Te) - When his brother Ra-Ra is struggling to keep up with the beat, Dizzee suggests the solution. âYo, Ra - your mindâs just flying too fast. Thatâs the only problem. Shao, can you drop a beat that he can double-time to or something?â Within seconds, Ra-Ra is blowing his buds out of the water with super fast rhymes.Â
(Other than that, we havenât seen much of Dizzeeâs extroverted thinking function yet. What a little cinnamon roll.)
Note: Could potentially retype to INFJ depending on how Part 2 goes. Even though he seems like an Fi-user, his thinking function is so soft it could possibly be lower Ti instead of lower Te. And his affinity for Rumi the Alien could pass for introverted intuition (Ni).Â
