One of the most commercially underrated albums in recent times has to be Stephan Bodzin & Marc Romboys otherworldly 'Luna'. Consisting of three discs it is an eclectic collection of rhythmic layers & textures equally highlighting both artists extensive musical knowledge across multiple genres. When heavyweights such as Oliver Huntemann, Stimming, Minilogue, Gui Boratto are only a handful of producers who have contributed remixes it says something for the calibre of the original productions. My pick of the featured originals is 'Hyperion'.
I looked in the mirror but something was wrong
I saw you behind but my reflection was gone
There was smoke in the fireplace as white as the snow
A voice beckoned gently, now it's time to go
A requiem played as you begged for forgiveness
"Don't touch me", I screamed
I've got unfinished business.
He said to lose my life or lose my love,
That's the nightmare I've been running from.
So let me hold you in my arms a while,
I was always careless as a child.
And there's a part of me that still believes,
My soul will soar above the trees.
But a desperate fear flows through my blood,
That our dead loves buried beneath the mud.
Let's grow old together,
And die at the same time.
I said I've got no time I have to go,
And I was more right then now I'll ever know.
He said my heart is faint, will minds regret,
And left him crying next to the chapels steps.
Floating neither up or down,
I wonder when I hit the ground.
Will the earth beneath my body shake,
And cast your sleeping hearts awake.
Could it tremble stars from moonlight skies,
Could it drag a tear from your cold eyes.
I live on the right side, and sleep on the left.
That's why everything has got to be
Love
Or
Death
If you're Swedish chances you've heard of Botany Bay are probably slim to nil. In fact most people outside of Australia might be under the impression it's a mythical land where minimal techno sets a mystical soundtrack against a vanilla sky backdrop. It's not. It was the first actually the first place the British explorer Captain Cook landed when he "discovered" Australia in 1770.
But enough with the history lesson.
One can only assume the instant classic 2006 track from Swedish duo Minilogue titled "The Girl From Botany Bay" has very little to do with the harbour. But despite the elusive title you get a clear sense of the feminine emotional roller coaster being depicted. You can almost hear this girls story being painted by ambient swirling synths, glitchy twists and a perfectly timed sample from Hermann & Keine's "Leaving You Behind Without Knowing Where To Go". This haunting yet inspiring song makes for a beautiful journey.
Who knew the brainchild of Ricky Gervais "An Idiot Abroad" could yield such a beautiful song. Vik Sharma's gem 'I Feel Unusual' was difficult to hunt down but quite easy to enjoy. Note not the highest quality version and best if you don't preview with headphones.

Often I regress to one of my favourite years for electronic music; 2005. In those 12 months a few dozen anthems made their way onto bustling dancefloors globally including 'No More Conversations' (Freeform 5), 'I Feel Space' (Lindstrom) & 'What Else Is There' (Royksopp). Amongst all the commercial success stories was a track that as a rule popped up at 4am after one too many vodka cranberries had been consumed. Simplest of melodies, reiterating to the crowd "Get your hands up/Get on the floor"... I always adhered to the lyricists directions. By the time the siren kicked in I was hooked. Repeated attempts were made to find the source of my early morning karaoke sessions. More often than not the DJ had a bootleg copy, obtained from a "friend of a friend" and the origins of the song remained a mystery. I eventually discovered the original was called 'Freemind' by DJ T. After a year of nagging at the back of my brain I finally dedicated a day to tracking down my "phantom" song. Mystery solved...... Happy Fathers - Bounce (DJ T Freemind)
In the shadows in the dark
When you think that we are apart
I will be there
Right Behind you
Wherever you go I will follow
Wherever you go I will find you
Wherever you go
In The Shadows - Lovebirds
I don't know why I love this song. I am entirely aware there is no one feature I can put my finger on that makes it stand out. Perhaps it reminds me of a happy time. Perhaps not. Perhaps it's because it's one of those tracks that niggled it's way into my head. I did spend an awfully long time trawling through my hard drives in search of it's name late one night. Due to that reason alone it gets a post.
