ONE. this is a roleplay blog for thanatos of the hades games, a highly selective and private blog reserved for those twenty-one years and older.

TWO. this blog is low activity and low priority. moreover, this blog will be queued-based. not only do i have multiple other blogs, but i also am in graduate school and have a life outside of tumblr. thus, if you're looking for frequent activity, this is not the blog for you. i will come here as the muse strikes. do not rush me for replies; that will earn you a block.

THREE. most of the content warning here will go to the fact that this blog will be heavily inspired by and written in a lens of supernatural horror. this includes the inevitable understanding that all things come to an end, alongside themes of existentialism and nihilism. moreover, i will likely allude to gore and flagrant violence, alongside morbid or shocking imagery. other content may include different styles of death, including suicide and homicide, sickness/plague, war and conquest, and more. please follow at your own risk; visuals will be tagged appropriately.

FOUR. i love the block button. i use it liberally, and will cater it to what i want or need it to be. that being said, do not follow me if you condone any of the following:  racism, transphobia, homophobia, pedophilia, xenophobia, zionism, TERF ideologies, and anything else that is bigoted, harmful, and predatory.  if you're confused on anything on this list, i highly suggest you keep it moving and don't speak to me. i block on sight for writing jkr creations, vivziepop creations, attack on titan, or any other fandoms with predatory/harmful creators, even if you slap "anti-___" on your rules.

FIVE. tentatively, i practice mains and exclusives. i will post mains calls and detail the requirements there; i don't require much for mains, simply initiative. i am affiliated with firstfuries and onlyorder.

SIX. thanatos has bipolar I disorder, and it manifests in mood swings, manic episodes, depressive episodes, difficulty maintaining relationships, and more. all this to say that he requires patience, particularly when it comes to interpersonal relationships.

* thanatos uses he/they/it/she pronouns. while they do not care about whichsoever gendered terms, please make sure you do not use exclusively one or the other. moreover, thanatos can appear differently to other people, depending on culture, belief, and creed; what is seen in the hades franchise is but one of her appearances, yet a primary one for main verses.

death incarnate releases a quiet hiss, the scalding feet of the prince warming typically-cold flesh along the dip of his back far quicker than anticipated. twisting around, he shoots an expression of warning towards his company.

“ zagreus. you've got to be kidding me. ”

“ so you've said many times before, eris. ” the cool, detached response is only somewhat soured with incoming agitation. he's not yet looking at her; rather, his eyes are on the yawning abyss of a sky above, observing the aurorae streaking in wisps of colors seen only by the fleshless and incorporeal. being roused by eris's remarks would only warrant her to continue goading, and jeering, and mocking; thus he chooses consciously to not give her the satisfaction of reacting, instead meeting her eyes with furrowed brows, responding in turn. “ have you gotten everything out, or are you going to continue with your drivel? this exchange is getting tiresome, and i'd like to take advantage of what few breaks i have between my work; this isn't constructive use of my time. ”

the chthonic deity considers this only once before responding. “ there's no need to apologize; i've existed long enough to understand that the affairs of gods tends to be as volatile as they can come. ”

leaning against the cool construct of an overarching building, one standing sentinel to the whimsical and somewhat intimate moment between Death and Lies, thanatos folds his arms over his chest, speaking plainly to his company. “ if i'm being honest, most people aren't themselves. not who lies behind closed doors. i'm able to see someone at their core by the nature of my work, but even then... ” even in death are intentions veiled and masks worn. deception permeates perception itself. he can only imagine what his ancestor thinks of their creations. “ anyway, i'm not judging you. from what i've heard, you've been through enough of that as is. ”

tilting their head towards the eccentric figure manifests the quirk of an eyebrow so faint than one would need to strain to catch it— all that is left in its wake is an expression somewhere between grim curiosity and ancient amusement. earthly pleasures are for the corporeal; even the deathless gods succumb to its throes, but still it makes little difference to him; for one day they'll be harvested by his hand, too, and lead where only the dead reside. “ it's an unstable one— more than any other i can imagine— but it does retain the most loyalty, ” they reply, casting their eyes towards the endless, dark cosmos above them. “ that means very little to me, though; you can't buy yourself mortal clemency, and sooner rather than later, it's going to be toppled. the only question is if you're the loyalist or the maverick. ”

there is a soft noise which leaves them— an amused one, caught between both understanding and recollection. zagreus is not unlike his younger sister even in these fleeting, inconspicuous moments; perhaps it be a quality of those spawned from hades and persephone. the headstrong nature of both king and queen of the underworld is as tangible as another layer of flesh, coiled around this curious, remarkable family in pulsing, zealous strokes. the small artifact is granted to her— the trinket, a carven inverted torch, being just small enough to stash in pockets or loop over belts. “ i can only imagine that you are, melinoë; enough has been said regarding that by my siblings. this, however, i want you to keep. you can consider it something of a lucky charm to aid when you may be lost. ”

he scoffs— an almost instantaneous reaction from ever-stoic Death burst from downturned lips. over his broad chest folds powerful arms, not yet parting his gaze from the sanguine pools of the river styx, its ebbing and flowing among the space just between death and life promising them more contention. it would be simpler to abandon direction with him, neglect to say what he truly wishes to say, but neither thanatos nor zagreus have been the type to equivocate to one another, no less at all.

so when he speaks (and how lowly he speaks, brewing from cool lips in the color of rot, projecting in a deepened thrum) he does so suddenly, unbothered by the prospect of either offending or discomposing. “ told you this already, zagreus. prying into others' affairs is only going to put you in a worse position than you're already in. ” finally, his eyes meet his company's. “ that's not going to stop you, though... so i won't even bother trying to convince you. ”

emitting from that ambient darkness, an obsidian envelope so profound it suggests the presence of more figures within than he, are two golden eyes which seem to cut through the endless void around them. thanatos makes no gesture to move; rather, in loitering within the blanketing darkness she seems to truly come abuzz— perhaps partially attributed to being born from the dark, or perhaps the maddening, wonderful fact that the dead stir in moments of absolute obscurity.

“ maybe i should, ” they say, drawing forth from that brewing, tendril-like darkness and stepping out from that small abyss. exhaustion is a well-tailored suit fastened around their body, so closely resembling their stature that it behaves more akin to a second skin. the death-film over his eyes shift as he moves forth, folding his arms over his chest. “ though, you know there's always work to be done. it isn't as though i have the luxury of these things. ” his head rears elsewhere, focusing on the sights around them. “ sometimes it's easier to stay awake; at least then i won't have to deal with any facetious dreams. ”

when Mother Night told him about this one— a creation of their ancestor, made to pluck what entropic design they had and rear it into some semblance of order— he hadn't imagined that they would ever cross paths. yet looking onto them is as though thanatos gazes upon a looking-glass, and that looking-glass gazes upon their very essence. it runs past the fleshed body and into the abyss from whence he emerged, ever-observant and relentless, and conveys a sense of warmth and welcome, as opposed to the imposing, cool blanket of Chaos. “ yes, my lord. it is all of our duties at the House to prevent that reality from coming true. i'll see to it that it never comes to fruition; the dead will remain whence they belong. ”

“ good, ” he murmurs, arms folded over his chest just loosely enough to convey a sense of relaxation around her, despite all which runs through his mind; those countless souls he must soon usher into their final resting place, whether through sickness, or strife, or any such manner steadily leading to the end of mortal existence. “ i'm the same way. i prefer it over tiptoeing around the truth. ”

the house of hades is tranquil this day. its edifices seem to embody the converged experience of death itself; from its gentler touch to the violence which breaches through, from both human and divine intervention alike. still, time seems to bend around the abode, creating a pocket of infinity for all who exist inside; just enough time, even on his relentlessly busy schedule, to spend with someone for he so eternally cares. “ then let me be sincere, megaera: i have missed spending time with you like this. outside of work, outside of... what we do. seems like we've been apart for so long, save for the occasional hello. that comes with what we do, though... but that makes moments like these all the better, i guess. ”

looming there among the pitch-black shadows, as though tendrils of night itself enfold around the very construct of this fleshed form, death does not appear to be perturbed by the blunt (and, if you were to truly pry his opinion from him, rather asinine) comment from the mortal, curious as she seems to be. their arms folded over their chest, thanatos tilts his head towards the dim illumination of the night, catching the light just so that the glare of golden eyes seem to permeate all which it touches. “ that isn't the first time i've heard something like that, and it's not going to be the last. if you think that i'm going to be reactive to that, you've got another thing coming. ”

he is a keeper of things: of secrets, of regrets, of wishes meeting their end. they are the embrace of warmth just before lungs expel a last breath, the sensation of peace absolute just prior to the abandonment of corporeal desires. a warrior's life well-lived; an elder's final respite; and eventually, when eternity meets its end, the deathless gods. all will be plucked by their gentle hand, and all will be whisked away forevermore. “ anyway, i'm not even here for you. right now, i'm just... observing. ”
