Annabel was well aware that she tended to stand out like a sore thumb whenever she did go to stores and supermarkets. Even with that knowledge, she had spent far too much of her life in the shadows to change her particular brand of taste just to fit in. If anything, it almost made her smile; knowing that to most other people, it looked like a fairy or nymph from some tale had stepped out of her legend just to pick up some cleaning supplies from the drug store.
Even more so, living in such a small town, it didnât come as a huge surprise for her to lift her head and catch sight of someone she knew; even in passing. âHi, Thana,â she greeted the schoolteacher. âHow is everything?â
Thana perked up when she saw that it was Annabel. âHey,â she replied, grinning widely. It was nice to see someone that wasnât someone from school or a parent. âYou know, flu season and all that. Iâm trying to prevent it if I can. Iâm picking up some precautionary measures so to speak,â she said, holding up a box of vitamin C tablets. âYou doing the same?â
