This might be the most controversial thing I’ll ever say on here, but I honestly think Tyler is the victim that a certain group of people in this fandom tries to make Wednesday into.
People make such a big deal about things like her getting kicked out the window and everything else that happened to her, but the thing is… she wasn’t traumatized by any of that. This is Wednesday Addams we’re talking about. That’s not me saying she can’t be vulnerable, because she absolutely can. It’s just that her vulnerabilities aren’t the ones certain parts of the fandom project onto her. They constantly try to turn her into someone she isn’t by finding reasons to pity her, and honestly, I think Wednesday herself would find that ridiculous.
Meanwhile, Tyler gets painted as pure evil and nothing more than that, while people completely ignore the trauma he’s gone through. His father emotionally neglected him, he was manipulated and SA’d by Laurel. None of that excuses the things he did, but pretending it doesn’t exist isn’t engaging with his character either.
I just find it interesting that people will bend over backwards to sympathize with Wednesday over things that barely affected her, while refusing to extend even a fraction of that understanding to Tyler, whose trauma is actually a huge part of his story. I honestly think that says something about how some people struggle to take male victims seriously, but that’s a whole different conversation.
