The night was cold and the clouds were high. It was a full moon that night, he couldn’t help but think of his father. Teddy Remus Lupin, Couldn’t help but think of Remus and what his life may be like having his father there or even if he remembered anything about him.
Teddy sat by his open window and watched the stars that shined even Behind the clouds. He understood why his parents went to war, at first he was mad about it, mad at why they would leave him. However, after years of asking the same question he realized that he would do the same to protect the ones he loved. He would jump in the line of danger if it meant to save James, Lily, or Albus.
His attention averted when he heard a knock on his door.
“Come in!” Teddy announced standing from the window seat. Harry then walked in with glossy eyes, he had been crying. Both Harry, Ginny, and Teddy’s grandmother had raised him since he was only a baby, he saw Harry as a dad but could never call him such knowing that Remus and Tonks had died for him. “What’s wrong?!” Teddy quickly said seeing Harry teary eyed but smiling which drew teddy to an even more confused expression.
“Nothing! Nothing is the matter, I have something for you that Adromeda found while going through old photos.” Harry took out a box from behind his back. “And... something else I’ve been meaning to give to you, I think now is the right time.” Harry took in a deep breath and sat the box down on teddy’s bed. The box looked old, it was made a wood and was cracked at the corners, the latch was broken on the front which teddy furrowed his eyes to.
“What is it?” Teddy sat down on his bed in front of the box, sweeping his blue hair from his face.
“A few things.” Harry lifted his glasses to wipe his eyes. “Pictures and letters between your father and your mother. There is also a letter for you, they wrote one for you incase something bad were to happen. Tonks asked me to give it to you when you were old enough to understand what it meant.” Teddy’s breath hitched for a moment looking down at the box. He wasn’t sure if he wanted to open it, afraid of what it might say.
“Oh.” Was all teddy could say. He didn’t know there was anything left of his parents besides a few pictures and a sweater his father wore.
“I’ll give you some time alone.” Harry smiled placing a hand on teddy’s shoulder before starting towards the door.
“Wait!” Teddy announced with a cracked voice, drawing his godfathers attention to him. “C-Can you stay?”
“Of course.” Harry nodded with a comforting smile. “This was something I wish I had, a letter from my parents. I lost mine about the same age you were when..” Harry trailed off remembering the war, the death, Remus and Tonks laying lifeless beside each other.
Teddy stayed silent as Harry sat down in a chair beside his bed. The boy took a deep breath, holding it in his lungs for a while before grabbing the box and placing it in his lap. Teddy lifted the broken latch to reveal Polaroids that laid on top.
He lifted the first one, it was a picture of Remus when he was young, he stood beside a girl with red hair. “Who’s this?” Teddy said, pointing to the girl in the photo.
“That’s my mother. Lily Potter.” Harry smiled to himself. Teddy laughed at this discovery as he picked up another photo. This one was tonks and Remus together holding a baby, holding teddy. “I took that one. You look just like you’re father, except your eyes. They’re your mothers.” Harry smiled again, almost tearing up at the memories. Thinking how once Remus had said the same thing to him.
“I know I ask this a lot but... we’re they- were they kind?” Teddy looked up from the Polaroid to meet Harry’s eyes.
“Yes. They were the most kindest people I’ve ever met. They loved you unconditionally, they would be proud.” Harry didn’t want to ramble too much seeing how teddy was already starting to tear up. Teddy smiled through his glossy eyes and looked back down at the box. There were only a few more photos.
One being With Harry and Remus holding baby teddy and even one with just Tonks smiling brightly. The last picture was of Remus and Tonks on their wedding day. His father wore a sleek suit as his mother wore a white silk gown that almost touched the floor with beautiful lace sleeves and neckline. ‘They looked happy’ teddy thought to himself as he finally sat aside the photos to see a hand full of letters placed at the bottom of the box.
The one that laid on top was the one that caught his attention. It wasn’t anything fancy but it had his name on it, it was the letter for him. The letter Harry had kept away for years until this very moment. Teddy gulped nervously picking up the piece of parchment addressed to him.
Before unfolding, he took one glance at Harry who continued to give an understanding nod and a warm smile.
If you are reading this, something must have happened and are now with Harry. We are so sorry that we have left you but we hope now you have come to understand we fought to protect you and give you a world we’re you can be safe.
No matter what the circumstances may be, we both love you so much our beautiful boy. suspect now you are grown and off on your own journey, fighting your own battles. We want you to know that we will always be with you, even when you cannot see us. We are so proud of the person you’ve become and how strong you are. You are kind and remarkable, even when you were little.
We hope you are happy and loved, you will always be loved.
