Signs you’re in a toxic relationship.
1. You’re constantly walking on eggshells. You feel like you always have to be careful what you say and what you do in order to not upset them. You avoid being yourself or authentic because it’s safer to let them be in control.
2. You often apologize for things that are not your fault. Toxic partners will make you feel like everything is your fault even if they are the one who caused the situation.
3. They criticize or put down your personality traits, family members, friends, accomplishments even in a joking manner. This type of behavior is bordering on abusive and can lead to more extreme abusive behavior.
4. You feel like you can't be yourself around your partner. Being yourself around a toxic partner will only make it more likely that they will try to shift your personality into how they want it to be. This form of control can cause you to lose your identity because you are identifying with their imagination. They imagine you being perfect with more “suitable traits.” There is no such thing! You should be with someone who loves you for you are.
5. Your partner is never satisfied with anything you do for them. A gift. A hug. Daily text messages. Cooking their favorite dinner. Nothing will ever be good enough for a toxic partner. They might find any little flaw in the grandest of gestures. You may try to please them in any way you can, but it is never enough.
6. Your self-esteem is very low. The way you see yourself changes when you allow yourself to be tied to a toxic relationship.
Toxic relationships can be extremely damaging and will hurt you more than you will ever imagine. It’s not your fault. There is nothing wrong with you. Trust me, there is someone out there will love you for everything you are, appreciate you, hear you. Do not settle. ❤️
