I've seen people compare him to a drinking gourd, and that the silhouette is just a bit funky because they kept a leaf/leaves on top. I think that's probably the intention, but I personally thought more of a giant thing of Magic Powder from Zelda. Or, y'know, just any stereotypical burlap sack.
