Sigh... it’s time to post this gem again
Jotho Babies TM + Insurgence's Mega Typhlosion :)
Apparently you all are going to be dealing with me bringing up mega evolution ideas every evening for a while, because I’m coming up with a ton. But today, we’re going to actually have a theme: starter Pokemon. So let’s start with those we all want to see. Johto Starters.
Mega Meganium Grass Ability: Aromatic Healing - recovers 1/8 HP and heals status when using a non-damaging move, and cannot be taunted HP: 80 Attack: 102 (+20) Defense: 140 (+40) Sp. Atk: 83 Sp. Def: 140 (+40) Speed: 80 Notable Moves: Roar
Okay, by now people have probably noticed my preference for Grass types, and my preference for stall-related play, especially the “infinite heal” strategies are well-documented. Mega Meganium, then, should speak for itself. 140 in both defenses is fantastic, especially with 80 HP, and the ability removes status and recovers additional HP when you use non-damaging moves. So Leech Seed, Toxic, Roar all exist to heal your own status and recover HP, while also setting up additional healing that wears down opponents, Toxic to deal massive damage over time while you sit there healing, and Roar to get rid of setup sweepers. This may be my favorite thing I’ve dreamt up. It’s good enough I could probably be talked into 1/16 each turn instead of 1/8, but I think Meganium earned this. Also, for anyone wondering why +20 in attack, consider that Leech Seed and Toxic with an ability that will keep you alive takes care of pretty much everything, and your only worry then is hitting your weaknesses that have immense base power. Meganium learns Earthquake. That is my entire reason. Also you could run Dragon Tail instead, and replace Roar with like...Ingrain, if you want to be a shit.
Mega Typhlosion Fire/Ground Ability: Eruptive Force - moves gain damage based on HP remaining (80-100% gains 50% buff; 50-79% gains 33% buff; 20-49% gains 20%; under 20% gains 10%) HP: 78 Attack: 144 (+60) Defense: 68 (-10) Sp. Atk: 139 (+30) Sp. Def: 75 (-10) Speed: 130 (+30) Notable Moves: Energy Ball, Earth Power
Out of every pretend ability I came up with, this one I’m probably proudest of. It’s just...so unnecessarily complicated. It’s basically just Eruption only as a damage boost rather than an attack. But imagine Eruption with this ability. If you’re faster than them, they’re basically dead. Mixed offense also allows it to utilize Earthquake and Thunder Punch to tremendous effect, while Energy Ball serves as a good answer to Water types that will undoubtedly switch in. Priority is its biggest weakness, though. Anything with Aqua Jet has probably already won. Also, if you’re somehow strong enough to tank it (considering its ability, at full HP, is a free Choice Band and Specs with no drawback), you can probably blasting through it. Reduced defenses only seemed fair.
Mega Feraligatr Water/Dragon Ability: Scale Armor - prevents status and inflicts 1/8 damage when contact is made HP: 85 Attack: 125 (+20) Defense: 130 (+30) Sp. Atk: 79 Sp. Def: 123 (+40) Speed: 88 (+10) Notable Moves: Drain Punch
Okay, I really had to try here. I couldn’t think of anything that outperforms the damage of Sheer Force with Life Orb, and I can’t really see a situation in which Feraligatr goes defensive successfully either. This was sort of my best compromise. Something with decent tanking stats, high offensive presence to allow it to just wall-break, and the combined potential to Dragon Dance slightly more effectively, considering status can’t really shut it down. Is this actually good? I dunno. But I’m hoping the bulk would allow it some level of performance above and beyond the base form. Also Drain Punch is there for healing on this form, so...that’s something?
Petition for Mega Typhlosion
As a lifelong Pokemon fan, I understand how little sway I have in what Game Freak and Nintendo do with their franchise. So please think of this less as telling anyone what to do and more as a request from an avid fan of your products.
After Pokemon X & Y, we have been blessed with Mega Evolutions for the original three starters (Bulbasaur, Squirtle, and Charmander). After Pokemon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire, we have been further blessed with Mega Evolutions of the Johto starters (Treecko, Mudkip, and Torchic). For Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, could you bridge the gap between Generations I and III and give the Kanto starters (Chikorita, Totodile, and Cyndaquil) Mega Evolutions?
I would really like to see Mega Typhlosion. It was and remains my favorite starter final evolution. It also ruined me for starters before and since. I chose the grass-type Bulbasaur for my first ever Pokemon game and never felt a twinge of regret. Even when I played it through with the other starters, I was still partial to the grass-type. But when Silver and Gold came around, the moment I saw Cyndaquil I was sold forever. Fire-types have been my go-to since then in every game. But none have ever come close to my Typhlosion. It was the first Pokemon I ever raised above lvl 70, and he eventually made it all the way to 86, the highest lvl of any Pokemon I owned until X & Y version. I’d love to bond with the Pokemon like that again and Mega Evolution is the epitome of the Pokemon-Trainer bond realized.
Typhlosion is an awesome Pokemon, but has been by and far ignored since SIlver and Gold versions. Blaziken stole much of the spotlight with its appearance and Charizard has been an iconic Pokemon since the very beginning. This could be an opportunity to bridge the gap between the Kanto starters and its predecessors and descendants. All of the Kanto starters are a single type, leaving the door open for further development. On top of that, the designs have always felt a bit incomplete. Like there was always a little farther to take them. Which is not to say the designs are in any way inadequate, but that they are strong enough to support a further evolutionary stage.
It would mean the world to this fan.
Reblog if you agree!
Finally got a good design for this thing yes
I've been wanting to draw my own Mega Evolution designs since before X & Y came out, but so many things got in the way and now the release of ΩRαS has come and gone. Where does the time go?
Anyway, I love the Johto starters. I love Cyndaquil. Just give us an awesome Mega Typhlosion, Game Freak. I’ll love you forever (ʃƪ ˘ ³˘)~❤
I need Mega Typhlosion. It'll probably end up looking like a single solid fireball, but it doesn't matter. I needz it. Typhlosion is my baby.
