YOI Movie: Ice Adolescence Teaser Analysis
Okay so this won’t be entirely perfectly thought out, but these are my initial thoughts.
First and foremost, the sad piano is absolutely gorgeous
St Petersburg, I believe.
I mean, it’s not an exact match, but looking at photos of the coast of St Petersburg, it does seem pretty similar. Plus, it would make the most sense contextually.
If the title wasn’t obvious enough, 100% teenage Viktor. You can very clearly see the long wisps of his silver hair flying around in the wind, so it’s definitely pre-hair cut. Essentially, a Viktor backstory.
As you can see, the colours are all very blue? Westerners can take this as an association with sadness and depression, which by the sounds of the piano and what we already know makes a lot of sense.
HOWEVER, in Japanese culture, the colour blue can represent femininity and purity. Which, I find pretty interesting given that on of the things Viktor was known for is his androgyny. This might be going a little deep, but unless I’m wrong, culturally blue was worn as a statement of purity. So, Viktor’s blue scarf blowing in the wind COULD represent that with fame and success, his purity is being torn away, as his his femininity - haircut foreshadowing?
It’s kind of hard to see, but Makkachin has clearly run in from another direction.
See how their footsteps cross, and Makkachin’s run ahead? Considering we see Yuuri react to Viktor getting a dog when Viktor’s around 17, it would make sense that this is the scene where Viktor and Makkachin actually find each other.
I mean, I could be wrong on that, but it would confirm the popular theory that Viktor adopted Makkachin rather than bought as a puppy.
Anyway, that’s all I have for now.
