We Mustn&#x27;t Dawdle!

"You'd think you'd know by now how quickly you tear through a book," Crowley leaned against the door, watching Aziraphale ready himself for the day with a trained expression, doing his best to look characteristically impatient and grouchy---though of course, were Aziraphale to look closely enough, he may detect the very edge of a fond smile lingering at the corners of the demon's lips.

"Some time this year, angel," Crowley huffed dramatically, as though he wasn't entirely enamored with the angel's dedication for doing things the human way. "Got a bit of a way to go to get there, and the longer it takes for us to get on the road, the faster I'll have to drive if we don't want this to take all day."

He could- and most likely would- start a collection of books within arm’s reach of his spot on the bed. Still, he enjoyed those peaceful moments they could finally have. “Patience is a virtue,” there was every bit of a smile on his face as he said it, knowing full well he wasn’t exactly a paragon of that particular trait himself. Though he was aware Crowley’s promise of speed didn’t come as an idle threat.

His pace quickened.

“Yes, alright.” A minor pause interrupted the angel’s progress. “If it’s going to be a long day of travel...we ought to pack some egg and cress sandwiches. It won’t take but a moment!” his palms came up placatingly as he shuffled off with intent.

Dennis half expected to be met with denial upon his request, given the turbulent relationship he had with the shop keep - if whatever they had could even be called that. In any case, he wouldn't blame the man for telling him no either. Back rooms and the doors connected to them weren't meant for customers (or intruders), but Dennis was desperate to avoid his "former friends" and thus making pleas for anything he could use to escape them. And if was met with a no then... well, he'd figure something about.

To his surprise though, the man said yes and he was stumbling over himself to keep up with the ushering pace set by the other. He barely had enough wits about him to say thank you by the time the door came in sight, let alone to get moving once he was finally on the other side of it. "I-- Yeah." He half mumbled to himself, pausing a few more seconds to offer another, "Thank you."

And then the boy was off, stumbling over the aforementioned stones but keeping his footing enough to escape, just as there was a knock on the front door.

“Think nothing of it,” he assured the teen barrelling out the back door. Aziraphale craned his neck to ensure the American boy did, in fact, make it over the potential trip hazards that weren’t entirely accidental.

He took time straightening out his attire, leisurely steps bringing him towards the source of the knock. Locks were undone eventually with no sense of urgency whatsoever. And with nary a glance at the faces on the other side of the door, he propped it open and cleared his throat before declaring, “Afraid we’re closed for maintenance at present. You’ll have to return at another time.”

"Perish the thought! As an angel, I could hardly perform any acts of ill-intent. Besides. I'm certain I would have noticed if you were rubbing off on me."

"Sounds like it's about time for me to sleep for a week."

"Oh, but you're going to miss all the fun! Shall I wake you up next Wednesday, then?"

"Right..." Even as he approached the door to let her in, she could tell through the glass that he was in a frazzled state, shooting him a glance over her shoulder as she walked further inside. Why he was acting so nervous? Surely it wasn't about her. Was he really fretting over how the rest of the night would go?

She took a moment to look around and admire her surroundings, the faux marble columns reaching up towards the domed ceiling, the shelves upon shelves of books that seemed in remarkably good condition. Maybe later, she could peruse the shelves and see if he had anything of value. She was still looking for a first edition printing of Agatha Christie's Death on the Nile, and if anyone had it, it would be him.

"A demon is neither later, nor early. We arrive precisely when we're summoned." She smiled, thinking herself rather clever as she turned back around. Case still in hand, now she was just looking for a place to put it so she could sort through her materials... except that every surface in this place was taken up by books.

"Now, do you have a bathroom area? I'll need to have you sitting in front of the mirror. Even a vanity will do."

He was adamant about ensuring the door’s lock and sign were in place once Luna stepped inside. “Not quite a bathroom. Nor a vanity.” Oh goodness, he was already turning out to be ill-prepared for the whole thing! “Ah, but I do have a mirror! If you’ll follow me,” and with a beckoning gesture he started around a corner of the shop that had a small alcove. There was a standing sink inlaid with two ceramic cherubs and a mirror above. It wasn’t exactly impressive but it was clean and reflections could be seen in it.

He waved a hand at a nearby desk with an ancient-looking computer. After shuffling many papers out of the way, its surface was cleared enough for her to set the case down. Perhaps if they’d spent time getting ready with Crowley, he might have miracled everything they needed, but Aziraphale very much preferred the novelty of doing things the way humans did, with some minute exceptions. “Should I stand? Or would it be easiest if we were sitting?” She stood so much taller than him, he wasn’t sure what would even be comfortable on her.

"Are you really going to try to cram the entirety of the history of theatre into a day? Even without sleep, that seems a bit ambitious."

"I'm going to give it a jolly good try! If nothing else, I suppose there would be no harm in making a week out of it."

Bust out my Columbia costume from the Rocky Horror Show if I feel like it. It's all about the spirit of the theater; love, life, death, magic, passion, and the beauty that is the ability to express your true self in the mask of another's struggles and experiences, whether they end well or not."
